I made a general enquiry regarding availability of a room on the evening of the 13th September as I am attending a course at the HSL. Apparently the place is too expensive for me. Despite explaining that surely this was my call to make, I was firmly informed that it was too expensive for me! I am appalled that someone... More

This guest house is highly recommended. The hosts were very friendly and served a great English breakfast. The room was very nice and clean. The bed was wonderful. There was a nice car park behind the house so very secure. The grounds had a pond and bridge and was very nicely laid out. It is a short 5 minute walk... More

We had an overnight stay here as we'd booked to see a performance at the Opera House and didn't fancy driving home. We received a warm welcome from the owner, and was shown our ground floor double room. It was warm, cosy and spotlessly clean. It was spacious and we had plently of room for our stuff. There was everything... More

For over 12 years we have been to Buxton and it is a delight to stay with Colin and Avril. We have always been welcomed most warmly and royally treated throughout our stays. Oldfield is a Victorian house, beautifully decorated, with lovely gardens and within easy walk of the town centre itself. Both the twin and double bedrooms with well... More

Thank you Tony. Tony & Anne have stayed with us every Year for the last 12 Years for the annual Gilbert & Sullivan International Festival usually for about 10 nights. Unfortunately Buxton lost this Festival to Harrogate in 2013 but in spite of this Anne & Tony have continued to visit us in 2014 and again this Year (2015) for... More

' **** Guest House' is the AA rating and I have no idea what that means but clearly it doesn't mean there are shaver sockets (which surprised me - don't lots of people have electric razors / toothbrushes / etc?) or fire precautions work (which didn't, but should). That said, Oldfield House is clean and comfortable with a warm welcome... More

The AA star rating is based on many requirements including proper wardrobes, chairs, bed linen and comfort and many other costly customer satisfaction criteria. Yes it is true that an electric razor plug is not one of the items in that room. However, all our other rooms have such a facility but the twin room Mr Foss occupied doesn't due... More

We had a lovely weekend in Buxton, fortified by an excellent breakfast. The owners were very welcoming and very helpful when I left my shoes here when we departed! The room was very comfortable and clean, with everything we needed. There is a guest lounge but we didn't use it.

A couple of lovely ladies from the Civil Service and yes they were civil. We are glad that they appreciated the extras as well as the hospitality.
