Lovely friendly little hotel. Room clean and comfortable. Great location for Gretna which is why we were there. Really accommodating in letting us check in earlier and overall very helpful. We had a little wait for food as they were very busy but they kept us updated and were very apologetic. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Be aware that the car park gets very full at the weekend as it’s open to non residents for meals...

We were travelling from England to Glasgow and decided to stop here for dinner on the way through. The food was excellent - very tasty and fresh. The staff couldn’t do enough to get us what we needed. Well worth a visit.

Lovely welcome from the owner but Booking.com need to correct checking in time- it’s 4 on some days. Room 6 was very clean and had 2 large windows but it is on a busy road. Nice extras of a fan and an iron and board in the room. The standards are very high as is the quality. Despite being a Monday the restaurant was fully booked and the choice of food shows you why they have won many awards! I had the beetroot smoked salmon and the lamb rack and they were 5*. Hendricks gin and fevertree tonic perfectly presented while waiting in the bar. First breakfast was full Scottish and it certainly was- highest quality haggis and other meats- beautifully cooked, and presented by the lovely staff who worked the previous evening too. The car park has plenty of spaces including charging points. Wonderful stay and can highly recommend!

Stayed at the Townhead during a recent trip round the South West 300, and overall a mixed experience. The Good Very friendly and helpful staff The best steak pie I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a few Good Gluten Free dinner options The Not so Good The bed was quite small and very uncomfortable (new mattresses required) The curtains did a poor job at keeping out the light The Gluten Free knowledge at breakfast wasn’t so good (Gluten Free toast put in the same toast rack as regular toast) Overall I would recommend the Townhead for dining, not so much for sleeping, but a few upgrades to the rooms would easily change my opinion.

Hi Mr Sivers Thank you for staying with us at the Townead Hotel, and for leaving us your review Thank you for all your comments, it is always great to know what our guests have to say, and it allows us to change things where we need to. We realise that dietery needs are a key part now for diners, and we have adapted our menu to make sure that most if not all of our menu can be made gluten free, and we also have a veg/vegan menu, and also cater for diary free where needed On the issue of the small bed, I notice on your reservation you were in room 1. This is one of our family rooms, and is one of our biggest rooms, with a king size bed and a single bed, and a bathroom which is masive, along with a walk in double shower, so I am not sure where this comes from. All mattresses have been changed prior to reopening on 26th April, however we do realise that everyone has different views on how they like their mattress to feel. We are now looking at the issue you raise with regards to the black out blinds, and we will amend these. I must apologise however for the issue of placing the gluten free toast in the same rack as the normal toast. This should necver have happened, and I am told that our waitress did return to the kitchen and make more gluten free toast for you and brought it back on a seperate dish I hope this answers the issues raised, and we hope to see you again soon Regards Stephen Owner

We where met with a warm welcome from Paige who we later found out was the daughter of the owners. She showed us to our room which was number 3. Room ok for one night. Shower room was very small, could hardly dry yourself in there. Room itself was fine, clean and comfortable. Would suggest you request another room if you are a light sleeper as the noise from air conditioning unit right under the window was a bit of a problem in the night.

Hi Thank you for your very kind review. I have to say I had to take a wee chuckle to myself when I read Paige being my daughter. This shows how close we all are as a workplace, and we are just like one big happy family. Paige is the daughter of our housekeeper who has been a part of the business now for a number of years. Room 3 is one of our twin rooms and as you say it does have one of the smaller bathrooms, however with the layout of the building sometimes we are unable to make changes in design. Next time please do ask for another room and we will be more than happy to help to do this. We are glad though that you enjoyed your stay and we hope to see you again soon Regards Stephen & Team
