We had a lovely few nights in a cabin. It was immaculate and particular highlights were the sauna and spa bath. The location was pretty remote, but that was nice. We had the car so enjoyed exploring the local area. The nearest supermarkets are in Grange-over-sands, a 10 minute drive away. We ate in the hotel restaurant on our last night and the food and service were both lovely. I had skimmed the lodges spec and incorrectly thought there was WiFi throughout. In fact, there is limited free WiFi, then you can pay for extra, although I was advised that it was unlikely to be strong enough for streaming. Luckily we had some downloads for the kids for some downtime :) We also found a swingpark in the caravan site next door. We enjoyed a few hill walks during our stay with the local ones being Hampsfell to see the hospice (shelter) and Arnside Knott. Both nice gentle climbs for the kids.

Overall the lodge is pretty and quiet, very ideal to have a pub on site.

Pros
Really pretty outside and quiet, nice for sitting on the balcony on the evening, good that there is a canopy. Really enjoyed going to the pub for a drink and the sticky toffee pudding was amazing. My parents really enjoyed their stay:)

Cons
Location is around 20 minutes from anywhere decent which is a bit annoying.
The rules need updating as it mentions giving you bags to put sheets into but we were given non and it mentions table service only which it isn't in the pub. the instructions for the sauna didn't make sense as it mentioned pulling on cords which there were non, only dials and switches. We also had no dishwasher tablets to use the dishwasher. Place did have a funny odour on arrival also, could do with freshening up. Beds are rock hard.

We stayed in the Ash Nordic Lodge and we could not have been more pleased with it. had everything you could want or need. Everywhere was spotlessly clean, furniture was comfortable, sauna and jacuzzi bath are just what are needed after a day exploring and walking.

Kitchen was ideal for self catering, even had the benefit of a dishwasher. On arrival there was tea, coffee, milk sachets, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and dish cloths already there waiting.

Apparently the lodges now all have high speed internet in them - which was only installed the week before we arrived. Our lodge had a smart tv, so I would imagine if you wanted to watch Netflix etc. in the evening then this will be very useful.

Being on holiday, we utilised the hotels restaurant for breakfast. Angelina served us and she was absolutely fantastic. Food was very tasty, we didn't need lunch after having such a filling breakfast even with all the walking we were doing. We had dinner one evening, again the food was tasty and we had no grumbles.

We will return here again when we visit the Lake District, thanks for the great stay!

After no holidays for such a long time our much anticipated break in the lakes had finally arrived. Having stayed at the WHPL for over 25 years I had waxed lyrical to my friend about the hotel, staff, food, location ….. big big mistake!

We had booked the top of the range lodge to make sure we had the best, sadly this turned out not to be the case. The settees were too uncomfortable to be able to sit and relax all evening, the carpets needed a good clean as they were stained, the beds in both bedrooms had seen better days and squeaked constantly, getting up at 5 every morning with a bad back was not our idea of luxury. The bathroom had a smell of stale urine that leaving windows open just did not seem to clear.

The hotel foyer was dirty and gloomy, the bar area blocked off, no smiley friendly Ping anymore to greet you and make you feel totally welcome, only an abrupt manager wearing his pinny and hoovering as they were short staffed, the food was a bitter disappointment with a very limited menu.

The final blow …. being charged an extra £40 on top of your holiday for a Deep Covid clean was a joke, the housekeeping wizzed round doing exactly what they always did there was nothing deep or extra clean provided, just another money spinner for the owner. Oh apart from having to strip beds and segregate into labelled bags yourself so the staff didn’t have to touch.

Needles to say this will be my last trip to the WHPL which for many years has been like going home to family.

We will go back to Grange over Sands but stay somewhere that does what it promises!

The take away food was delicious even though you can not order dessert to take away but they are available when you eat in. The food for take away menu is totally different from the dine in menu which is a bit strange. When we checked in, we were given an envelope with key and instructions, one of the instructions is to vacuum the room thoroughly upon check out which was not mentioned on the website when we booked. The mattress’ need replacing and the staff at check in need some further training

What a pleasant setting and helpful staff. Even in these difficult Covid19 times, we were able to enjoy a lovely restful long weekend. The room was very comfortable and clean, the breakfast extensive and a perfectly adequate menu was available as takeaways to be eaten in the conservatory or beer garden.

Stayed here for the first time this weekend. I’ve been in for food and drinks before now when I had a caravan and used to go to the caravan club site next door.

I stayed in the Pine Lodge, which was Swiss style and dog friendly. Normally dog friendly accommodation still smells of dog, but the lodge was spotlessly clean, no dog smell and surprisingly well equipped. It has everything you need and was very warm and comfortable, even in snow and below zero conditions.

Toiletries are included as well as bedding and towels. The bathroom also has a spa bath and there is a small sauna by the front door (although didn’t use it).

The staff are very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. A big thank you to Angelina who I coordinated with regarding a surprise meal for my dad’s 60th. Early check in was allowed and I was able to decorate the room beforehand and the food was excellent.

I have stayed twice before and cannot fault this place which is in a lovely, quiet location. The lodges are well equipped, spacious and beautifully kept - just perfect. The hotel has an excellent restaurant, and although we were unable to find time to use it this on this occasion we did order a takeaway, which was just what we wanted (if a tiny bit overpriced). Had a delicious gin and tonic in the very convivial hotel bar while waiting. We shall most certainly be back.
