We stayed for 4 nights with out Boarder Collie Charlie from 5th July.

Grange is a lovely little town with many great walks and lovely gardens to go and find.

Somerset House is an old 1860s Victorian building with rooms and interior maintained and refurbished to very high standard. The exterior is decorated with a large collection of flowers.

This is a B & B with Military Standards of cleanliness are made easier by the way the building has been thoughtfully decorated.

Breakfast was tailored to your choice from a menu and available in the dinning room, or bedroom. We ate outside on 3 mornings.

There is parking very close by which has strange tariffs. You can pay there and know you are contributing the must needed council funds of this tiny town or drive a couple of streets and find free parking.

A little park is close to walk the dogs as is Grange Promenade.

We had a Train trip to Ulverston from here, a day in Bowness and a boat ride and also went to the beach in Cark for a very long walk to the viaduct on route to Ulverston.

Most reviews are from repeat visitors or people praising how friendly and helpful Somerset House is.

You do not get reviews like that without hard work and know how.

They put in the hard work and have the know how.

Thank you

We stayed here for one night on a short visit to the Lake District. We were allocated Room 1 which was at the front of the hotel. It was a large and spacious room with high ceiling. As it overlooked a busy road there was some traffic noise during the day but was surprisingly quiet at night. The hotel does not have its own parking but it was quite easy to find a space on the streets nearby (parking is limited to 1 hour 9am-6pm or there is a pay-and-display car park nearby). We enjoyed the breakfast which was served in the room (there was a small table and chairs by the window to sit at), it included ciabatta rolls (delicious!), yoghurts and fresh fruit which was served with a percolator of fresh coffee.

We booked to stay here last minute as we wanted a family overnight break after a change of our original plans. Booked over the phone (for best price) and greeted by one of the owners that was more than willing to accommodate our family on short notice. The stay was superb, the owners are extremely friendly and helpful with explaining the local area and providing anything we needed. The family room we stayed in (room 2, I believe) was perfect for the 4 of us. Big comfy beds, lovely clean bathroom and all the amenities covered throughout. Grange-over-Sands is fantastic and this B&B is located perfectly for access to everything it has to offer. This place turned what was going to be a mundane weekend, into a superb family "holiday" as the kids called it. I cannot thank the owners Geraldine and David enough.

We can't understand why Somerset House wasn't fully booked when others in the town were. Geraldine, the host was incredibly friendly and helpful, telling and hand writing places for us to visit. The B&B is in great location for the town and for roads to venture further. The house is immaculately clean and everything is provided. Parking on the road during the day is limited to one hour, but there is a reasonably priced car park almost next door. Plus there is a Tesco Express almost opposite. We intended to stay for just one night but were so comfortable we stayed another night. Highly recommended.

We were not expecting to stay, however last minute our plans fell through and we needed to find somewhere local to stay the night we called 10 mins before arriving and Geraldine & David were so kind to us when we needed somewhere to stay, 2 adults, a little dog, a toddler, and a big bag of frozen food. The B&B is absolutely immaculate and very comfortable. Geraldine kindly put our food in her freezer for the night so we didn’t have to throw it away. We had a double, and single bed so comfy. Smells so fresh and clean. She delivered our beautiful continental breakfast to us (other options available) and this included warm fresh buns, presented beautifully. We can’t thank you enough and would certainly recommend this lovely B&B. Thank you once again, Natalie, Scott, Oliver, Missy, and the frozen food 🥰

We stayed for 3 nights in June 2021. Geraldine and Dave were perfect hosts. Very friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and well presented with en-suite shower and WC. Good attention to Covid restrictions, Face masks worn inside and hand gel provided. Breakfast was not your traditional Full English which makes a pleasant change. There are three main choices, we tried them all, enough to set you up for the day of exploring the area. Although parking is restricted on the street outside to 1 hour between 9am and 6pm. this wasn't a problem as there are plenty nearby places to park just a short walk away.

We had a lovely 2 night stay at Somerset House. We booked a family room and it was perfect for our needs, nothing was too much trouble and breakfast was a lovely touch setting us up perfectly for the day. Having stayed at many B&Bs for work and leisure purposes I wouldn’t hesitate to return here and we will definitely be back.

Grange itself was lovely to potter around (although nothing seems to open on a Sunday). The children loved the promenade with its little park and the prom provided the perfect surface for scooters. I would also recommend Fish over Chips just further down from Somerset House.

Oh and the view from room 8 was the icing on the cake.

We have just returned from a three-night stay. We received a warm welcome from David and Geraldine. The room was spacious and comfortable with a fan provided for the extremely hot weather. The en suite with power shower was superb.
Somerset House enjoys and ideal location with all amenities within easy walking distance.
We would highly recommend. Those with dodgy knees might want to ask for a lower floor. 😁

Stayed here for 2 nights leading up to New Year's Day as we had friends staying in a cottage nearby. We were made very welcome from the moment we arrived and met Geraldine. Room was lovely and comfortable and the breakfast which was brought to our room both mornings was excellent. This lovely B+B makes a great base for exploring and Cartmel is less than 10 minutes away. Met David on our 2nd day and had a chat with him and Geraldine before going out to our friends cottage. Thank you both for a lovely stay and hopefully we will see you again.
Love Simon and Debbie

My mate & I loved the B&B here - friendly owner who’s an ex-cyclist herself and adept at looking after Bay Cycle Way customers, comfortable rooms and a particularly good range of breakfast options. And she gave us a comprehensive rundown on all the restaurant and pub options for an evening meal too. It’s easy to see why this is an enduring favourite. Look out for the extraordinarily colourful display in the front garden too. Highly recommended.
