The exterior and grounds of the Cumbria Grand are indeed still 'grand' but the interior is currently undergoing an essential scheduled refurbishment both to rooms and common areas some of which are looking distinctly tired. As two couples we were on the second floor facing the front in adjoining rooms but the difference between the rooms was stark. One room... More

My wife and I enjoyed a four night holiday in April,2016,choosing the four sunniest days of the month. Lucky,or what? We had room 108 which was superior in every way. The beds were large, comfortable and new.The bathroom was spacious and squeaky clean. The flat screen TV had an excellent reception and was located at a perfect height for easy... More

Had a recent 4 night stay at this Hotel with a large group on a bus tour. Very impressive looking from the outside and some equally impressive decor/architecture inside. The grounds and views from the hotel are spectacular, and the peacocks roaming the grounds are an added bonus. Our room was on the second floor (3rd level). It was very... More

Only an overnight stay with a quick look at the town and then back to eat inexpensively, pleasantly and well in the bar. Old style with upgrading going on but full of character and nothing missing from the good value deal we obtained. Would certainly go there again and have enough time to investigate the snooker room!

We had a very enjoyable few days here with our dog. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was good. We were on the ground floor making it easy to take our dog out. We will certainty go back later in the year.

Finally a return visit to the Grand a couple of weeks ago! With my wife and I needing a couple of days peace & quiet, this was our "go to" destination. Only 3 hours from our home and the idyllic setting make this a great place to recharge. On arrival we found the same staff still working there (always a... More

Called with my wife on a groupon voucher for two nights. Our room was very nice, large and with a lovely bathroom, all looked recently refurbished. The lounge, bar and dining room are all as you would expect in a "grand" hotel, lots of wood leather and pillars. The breakfast was a buffet self serve, and was excellent quality. We... More

The room we stayed in was dated but this is an original building with some really lovely features. Bathroom was modern and clean. It must be difficult to retain the original features and maintain functionality. The staff were very helpful and accomodating. We stayed the night before starting a coast to coast cycle ride and the bikes were also accomodated.... More
