Detailed Reviews
It was last minute booking due to sport event.
As we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff, very nicely offered us a free drink at the bar which made our night after a long drive.
Our room was clean, the beds were comfortable.
There wasn't any evening meals or breakfast available which I was a bit appointed but we ordered our breakfast on just eat instead. And no showers weren't working.
Part from that it was a pleasant stay.
The hotel does need work on updating the rooms, water pressure. But remember people hotels have been struggling because of covid.

Staff are ultra friendly thats about where the positives end.
No hot water in either the shower or sink taps, brown stains all over bathroom floor, cockroaches in the shower are just a few of the negatives. £200 for a room of 3 single beds for 1 night I don’t expect luxury for the price we paid but jesus this was probably the scummiest hotel i’ve ever stayed in luckily was only for the one night. Couldn’t wait to check out and leave.

Okay but for the price what does one expect!?! The saving grace are the 2 lovely ladies who manage the hotel/pub. They are lovely and could not be more helpful-there names are Vicki and Susan. The hotel is close to main roads and clean with a bar

After looking for a weekend away for my wife who was recovering from a massive cardiac arrest, I booked a double standard room with a four poster bed that was clearly advertied in the picture. The room was clean but just about large enough to swing a cat and with a very basic bed, no fancy fourposter.
We immediatly questioned the room, in which the reply was that they only have one four poster bed and it was booked out. A refund wasn't possible as the manager was away but when we later phoned up and politly explained the situation and requested a refund, the man on the other end became abrubt, stubborn and as much use as a chocolate fire guard. I am now £119 out of pocket for paying for a room that I never recieved or even slept in as I had to pay for another Hotel in Newcastle costing an extra £150.
I have photos of the actual room which doesn't appear on websites, at least at the time of writing this and a screen shot of the room I booked. When I find out how to upload these on this site I will,
I am very disapointed with the manner of this hotel.

When we arrived we were shocked at how unwelcoming and shoddy the reception area was. We were given our keys for Charlotte. When we got to our room we were both shocked by the out dated décor and how chilly it was. There was an outdated pink bathroom suite with a cracked broken front bath panel. The toilet seat was crudely attached to the toilet and looked unsightly. There was a damp patch on the wall and one of the beds covered the radiator making it difficult to radiate any heat. The TV had a condemned sticker on it from September 2019 and when I went downstairs to say it didn’t work Vicky said she would try and find a replacement but ensured me that it was working. Evidently when Vicky came upstairs she too discovered that the TV was indeed not working. A replacement TV was located but then it took a while to find an extension cable to enable us to plug it in. The TV was placed on a trolley as the aerial wouldn’t reach otherwise. However, the TV was only able to receive BBC 1 and BBC2 on Saturday evening and the following morning wouldn’t receive a signal at all. The breakfast was plentiful and of a decent quality and the breakfast staff were friendly. Please see photos attached of the room we stayed in on our visit. I feel it needs updating to a higher standard as the pictures on the website portray the hotel in a different light which aren’t representative of the hotel overall.

The place was utter filth. £75 no breakfast and stayed in what can only be described as a squat, the place was filthy everywhere, it was thick in dust and bed sheets where dirty. The shower didn’t work only cold came out, there was only one person running the bar and hotel and he couldn’t of been less interested I complained about the room so got moved to another which was exactly the same just more places filled with dust. Dodgy plug sockets broke my hair straighteners that I had used at my home that day. Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if there was fleas in the place. Couldn’t get a refund
As it’s non refundable. I’ve never felt such disappointment in a hotel! I could of cried! What a waste of £75 we could of had a better hotel for that the place is disgraceful. Very unhappy.

The place is disgusting, there was no evening meal or breakfast. Ran poorly. Broken furniture, dirty rooms, it’s exactly what others have wrote in the past, so I guess they don’t care.
Avoid avoid avoid, honest it was a living nightmare!

We needed a place to stay at short notice whilst we visited our daughter who lives very close to this hotel. The room was dated, and there was little water pressure in the shower but otherwise a good size and very well equipped. It was more than adequate given the price we were charged for our two night stay. The staff are lovely and made us feel very welcome in the bar. I would stay here again.

Was staying here for 1 night, as was running GNR 2023. On arrival a male member of staff greeted us, was very friendly and helpful. Went to the room and it was disgusting. Room very outdated. Carpet dirty, Shower was dirty. The beds had hair and marks on them. Had to sleep on top of the bed. Didn’t want to get in. As soon as we woke up we left the hotel, couldn’t wait to get out there.

I stayed here for one night and was greeted by very friendly staff on arrival. I signed in and although I was very early and just wanted to drop my bag off .my room was ready. I was in the room with the very comfortable 4 poster bed. Beautiful white sheets and clean towels in the ensuite bathroom. The staff go out of their way to please you and ordered me a taxi into town. For the price you pay it's got my vote

Hi Pauline. I have never stayed here but being a local, the hotel and pub is very friendly and so are the staff. The food is also lovely. Don't let the reviews put you off. Dunston is also a lovely area 😀
