Perfect location hidden away with excellent efficient staff and lovely spacious rooms ! From the moment we steeped foot in the hotel we received a warm welcome from the gentleman who was front of house and then breakfast the next morning we were greeted by Christine who was so happy and smiley and clearly wanted to make sure we had the very best stay possible . The hotel has 18 rooms which gives it a very relaxed , homely feel. We didn’t eat at the hotel but when we returned in the evening we enjoyed relaxing on the lounge/bar area with other guests .
Thank you it was a fabulous stay and have already recommended to friends and a big thank you to Christine who is a credit to the hotel

We stayed here for 2 nights as my partner had booked for us to go to a concert in Newcastle. He hadn’t heard of it before but said it looked lovely and we were not disappointed! The building has character whilst also having modern aspects. We had a room (poplar) on the first floor overlooking the garden which was beautiful. The location is idyllic and you quite literally cannot hear a sound when you stay here. We are both used to being in a bustling city and waking up to cars and traffic and it was so nice to wake up hearing the odd bird tweeting. There was also plenty of free parking and only 10 minutes in a taxi to the city centre.
The staff were incredibly polite, welcoming and helpful during our stay. Both males on reception were so friendly and warm, and gave us advice on getting to and from the centre during our stay. The lady who oversees breakfast is also very lovely, with a welcoming and kind personality. When we got back from the concert a man (who we presume was the night porter) even welcomed us back and wished us a good night’s sleep!
We hadn’t actually intended on eating here, as we had already booked some reservations in the city centre for our stay, but breakfast was included and was delicious. There was lots to choose from, and the staff were also happy to accommodate amendments to any item on the breakfast menu. When we first arrived we hadn’t eaten lunch and were peckish, but arrived mid afternoon so decided to order room service. The room service food exceeded our expectations and my partner commented it was the best meal he had the whole weekend! We had a breaded chicken sandwich with triple cooked chips that was so nice we ordered it again the next day!
All in all we had a wonderful stay at a lovely family-run villa, who warmly invited us to return again, and we most definitely will be! We have also recommended it to family and friends. Don’t stay at the usual big company hotels where you don’t get the service, when you can stay at Eslington Villa.

We stayed here for two nights, our first and certainly not our last visit.
It was built as 2 large Victorian Villas around 1880, and is now one large hotel with 18 individually designed rooms, large gardens

Our room was comfortable and nicely presented with a walk in shower. (Which we had specifically requested)

Staff were friendly, the majority have been working here for many years. Breakfast was very nice with a good choice of hot and cold food. The croissant's after my ‘full English’ were particularly tasty.
There is a large lounge and bar with plenty of seating.
We stayed here because it was only a short drive to Beamish Open Air Museum and even shorter to see The Angel of the North.

I would definitely stay here again.

As stated on their website, the hotel does seem to want to provide comfort and satisfaction - even with the restrictive Covid rules and regulations in place. Staff are attentive and friendly and the food is good. However, the menu is not great with only about 5 choices of starter and main course, although I wonder whether this is due to the recent opening after restrictions have been eased?. I wouldn't describe the property as luxurious but it is well appointed for a Victorian residence. Our room was top of the house (Pine) and it was large with a fantastic 'bathroom'. However, having a loo in an open plan room wasn't to our liking! The large walk-in shower was interesting although it did seem to overflow and send water across the stone floor and the tray was so lethally slippery that we had to suggest having a non-slip mat before we had an accident (problem is that we run a Health & Safety company!). All in all, our four nights here on a mix of business and pleasure was a very nice stay and we would be happy to return.

During our stay with our nephew and his wife in Birtley the four of us came for an evening meal. The welcome was genuine and there was a pleasing mix of professionalism and informality from start to finish. We were invited to sit at a table, have pre-dinner drinks and peruse the menu prior to ordering. We had the 3-course menu which was very reasonably priced and there was enough choice for the four of us. We were very impressed with the wine list and were pleased with the Cotes du Rhone. It was pleasing to note that all the wines were sensibly priced.
Thanks and well done to the staff for helping to make our evening so pleasant.

The setting is charming and peaceful and the staff are so welcoming, friendly and polite. The main building is cosy and homely and instantly gives the feeling of warmth and comfort.

We were staying in a room that was accessed through an external door next to the carpark. The room was fine and was clean. The beds were comfortable and there were nice touches such as teas, coffees, bottled water etc. I do, however, feel the room is due a lick of paint and seemed a bit worn out in places. The bathroom was adequate but again it seems like it needs a revamp and it felt almost damp.

The breakfasts are served between 730am - 10am and are plentiful and tasty.

All in all I would return here but I would probably ask for another room next time, in the hope that it had been more recently renovated.

We got married on the 19th, and following our other venue closing until further notice, Eslington Villa stepped up and smashed it out of the park. The venue is absolutely gorgeous and the staff couldn’t do enough for us, the room was set up beautifully and in line with current restrictions. We stayed at the hotel that night, as did my parents, lovely comfy rooms with a lot of space.

Food on the day, and the next morning was absolutely brilliant and all of guests said they were thoroughly impressed. I definitely recommend the eggs benedict! We’re already thinking of when we can visit again. A massive thank you to Tony for being such a lovely and funny host, and for coping with my very enthusiastic group!

This is a lovely place, the staff and the service are excellent as are the rooms and the food.
The ‘but’ is about the slow and unreliable internet connection. I got no Wi-Fi in my room and that available in the lounge kept dropping out on both my iPad and iPhone (latest models). If the hotel wishes to attract business clients a fast and reliable internet upgrade is required.

Excellent Again - we all got together for a Christmas Lunch at The Eslington last year and I was a bit concerned that it couldn't live up to our previous experience but, once again, it was brilliant 👏
Very reasonably priced, friendly, efficient service and a wide ranging menu with extra vegan options.
The hotel looks seasonal and smart and there's enough room in the lounge for a large party (12) to relax before and after the meal.
All credit to the management and staff and, unusually for now, they don't put a service charge on the bill so do remember to tip !!!

Had a lovely meal last night and even managed 3 courses which I cannot remember doing in years. My only criticism was the dessert wine which was expensive (£6) for what was, basically, half a glass. But that may be because it was so nice I wanted more!
Service was excellent, not too slow but then not too fast either.
Lived up to expectations.

We had a room at the back of the hotel so I am not sure, but the hotel is set back from the road and is a distance from the main road. The front of the hotel overlooks the hotel car park so it is and the quiet road in front.

Are you near the route for the Great North Run?
Answer from Nick T

Hi Theresa, we aren't exactly on the route, we always have a full house with runners, are you a runner or wanting to view the race ? We are located about 3 miles South of the start but the race itself goes East towards the coast to South Shields. Is that any help ?
