It's not the ritz but what do you expect for £50? Rooms are a bit dated but bed was comfy enough. Bed linen and towels were clean. Some basic repairs would improve the overall appearance , a new lightshade and fixing the small missing panel on the bed end. Still a bit confused by the boat theme but had free parking, wifi , We slept well and we had a good breakfast. When you thinking going to a cafe for a fry , coffee and toast for 2 could easily end up £15 , means your bed for the night was £35 !

After pre booking, and looking at what other's have said , a lot been true.
staff friendly breakfast good. The room was tidy , velvet headboard was thick with dust, the bathroom bin still had the last persons rubish in .no hairdryer in room or in building as I asked for one. Im a cleaner and I wouldnt leave a room with dust and old hairs on headboard. Old fashioned, beautiful wood walls love the porthole mirrors. It really is sad to see it could be a lovely place to stay , with a spring clean. It is what it is cheap and cheerful, but dusty. Men live and work on the estate its a mans place just a bed and breakfast , tv kettle , hot water . I think men would be ok about it I just glad it was one night could not stay again . Im sure a cleaner room would benefit, not me been fussy, no one wants to see dust and other people s pubic hair .or sanitary towel in the bin . Now you know , if your a man , its good if you a woman well be prepared . Staff polite , please make more effort on the cleaning , soap and water a bit of polish .if you know its a couple make a bit more girly in the room and bathroom, .we still went after reading all the remarks , one night , I would normally walk out , but the place has a nice feel .
PLEASE CLEAN IT UP

Our experience of the Rowers hotel in Newcastle was extremely poor. The dirt of the entrance hall which immediately sets the tone. In fairness most people in our group had a worse room experience than we had.

1. The skirting was falling off in the ensuite.

2. The shower was a telephone-like set up in a very deep bath, with no non-slip mat.

3. There wasn't enough crockery and cutlery for the number of guests.

4. The locking device on the door of our room didn't work, we had to put a suitcase against the door to deter someone fromcoming into the room at night.

5. The conservatory where we were to eat was dirty and overgrown with foliage.

6. The patio was overgrown with weeds.

7. The hotel is in an industrial estate.

In fairness there seemed to be plenty of hot water in the morning. But a double room had two single beds. What I'd call a twin room.

I would say that you shouldn't stay in this hotel.

The hotel looked derelict from the outside. The door was locked so we couldn't get it. I called customer services to ask someone to let me in. The very nice member of staff was losing the battle. Inside was worse than the outside! The room smelt of urine and cigarettes. There was thick black gooey stuff on the bedroon carpet and black mould in the bathroom. We explained that we couldn't stay there. Customer services, on the phone, agreed to cancel the booking. As I had given my bank details they still charged me, I will now have to fight to get my money back.

Stayed just the one night, but will definitely stay again. Clean comfortable rooms each with a different famous ship as its theme. Restaurant and breakfast room stay with the ship theme. Hearty english breakfast. Host very friendly and helpful. Area not beautiful but easy to find and convenient for bus to town or Metro centre (shopping). For £61 for 2 person b&b ,very good value!

Check in is until 10pm i arrived on my own at 9:20pm to find the hotel completely locked up looking very run down and no one there. My phone was almost dead I was somewhere I didn't know and now with nowhere to spend the night. They left me a female on her own out at 9:30pm stranded in the middle of an industrial estate. Absolutely disgusted. I walked down the road and luckily there was another hotel. I asked the lady there if the Rowers was still open she said yes she knew the manager and he had gone to the pictures as he thought I wasn't coming!!!!!! I was outraged anything could have happened to me. This hotel should be shut down its a disgrace!!

Having booked the hotel, I then, in hindsight, looked on Trip Advisor...Oh dear, some of the reviews did not make for pleasant reading. However, my husband and I decided that for one night, we could bear it. Do you know what...I found it to be more than ok, comments about being dated and in need on a re furb were correct...however..The room and bed were clean, with hot water, clean towels and cosy warm. I couldn't understand why, when booking a cheaper option hotel, people feel the need to complain that it isnt 5 star?? We really had a comfortable night, the price was perfect, including a full English, and the guy and lady we met were more than helpful. We were asked if we needed assistance with luggage, told what time breakfast was served, and told to make ourselves at home. If people want to spend loads on a hotel room, their choice, myself however, would rather spend the money on actually seeing the city, knowing that this cheaper little hotel would meet my needs just fine.
