We have stayed at the Bowes Incline Hotel a number of times and have never been disappointed. Our recent trip during the Covid 19 restrictions and changes did have us wondering what our stay would be like. Not at any time did I think my safety had not been considered. The one way system for entry and exit was very well signed and the staff always had face masks and observed social distancing rules. Some thought had really gone into how the processes were going to work, not easy when requirements seem to be amended daily.
Our room was very comfortable and clean with a decent sized bathroom with walk in shower.
We ate in the hotel three of our four nights and really enjoyed the variety of dishes on offer. The portions were sizeable and very tasty.
We found new things to do in the area and had a lovely time in a beautiful area of the country. I'm sure we will be back again soon. Thank you to all the staff, we really enjoyed ourselves.

We stayed here with 2 adults and 2 teenagers to attend a concert in Sunderland and had 2 rooms. We arrived a little early before check-in. Originally I asked to leave our luggage as we needed to get into town and couldnt hang on until. 2pm check in time. The staff member on reception was super accomodating and allowed us access to one of the rooms that was ready so we could freshen up. He was very knowledgeable about transport links and provided reputable taxi firm number. The rooms were spotless, usual tea, coffee and biscuits. Our room was spacious. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom contained shampoo and shower gel if required. We had a room at the front and back. Quiet both rooms 10 & 11. Cooked Breakfast in the morning was pre ordered the night before. Hot and good portion sizes. Cereal, yoghurt, juice and toast DIY. Overall would recommend this hotel. Friendly welcoming staff, comfortable stay.

We visited the hotel now that the lockdown has eased. The attention to detail to ensure the safety of everyone is quite superb. We felt very much at ease. From the first step into the hotel the customer service is exceptional.
And so onto the food and drink. All table service and beautifully handled. There is still a very good choice on the menu: almost as though the enforced challenges had not occurred. The food arrived beautifully cooked and presented, hot and very much 'to order'. It was faultless as, indeed, was the whole ambience. I can honestly say I have not enjoyed a better meal ever.
The Bowes has always been wonderful and its has weathered the problems it must have faced, brilliantly.
Put quite simply - if you want superb food in a comfortable, safe, secure, and positive environment then go no further than the Bowes.
Thanks to all the staff for making the whole return to 'normality' so fabulous.
Best wishes to all
Ian

Stayed just one night here and had food. Staff were lovely and the food was good. Rooms was very clean but I think due to the type of building the walls between the rooms were not thick so there was quite a bit of noise. Good for a stopover though.

Myself and my son went for lunch and we weren’t disappointed. This place can be seen from the motorway but is a little tricky to get to as the road is narrow but you won’t be disappointed when you get there, car park has plenty of spaces to park, inside it is very welcoming and spacious and the staff are very attentive and helpful. The choices on the menu are very varied with a lot of choices and although a little pricey the meals are exceptional, I chose the chicken with haggis and whiskey sauce and my son chose the chicken fajita sizzling platter, both meals were very nice and filling, if you have room for a dessert there is plenty to choose from, with daily specials, I had the mixed berry mess and my son the strawberry cheesecake, I did get pictures of our main meals but not of our desserts as we just went for them, they were extra yummy. I’ve heard Sunday lunch is delicious so will be trying that next, will most likely boot that as I can imagine it to be busy

Wanted only one night round the Gateshead area and found this on booking.com. How lucky were we. Beautiful to look at from the outside with all the flowers, and a warm welcome on the inside. Our room was very nice but cold so asked the young man on reception if he could do something about it, he soon got the radiator sorted. A modern very roomy bathroom with a good size walk in shower and lots of big cosy towels. The food in the restaurant was very good with huge portions and reasonable prices. After a good nights sleep we had a lovely big breakfast to send us on our way. Will definitely come back for a longer stay.

Service was Fine with friendly and efficient staff. Food however was poor. A very impressive menu and I feel that if they concentrated on the quality of a less extensive menu things could improve. Both myself and partner had the braised beef and leek dumpling and we both sent them back. The beef was inedible as it was so tough with the consistency of rubber. The waitress apologized and offered to return with a fresh dish. My partner chose to order a desert instead which the management offered free of charge. I chose to try the replacement but the beef was exactly the same. The dumpling was stodgy and dense and contained no suet so as a also disappointing. I returned the second plate and was also not charged. While I appreciate they tried and have no complaints about the service we left hungry and disappointed.

My wife and I stayed in the Bowes for 8 nights. The rooms were clean , roomy and Beds are comfortable . We ate dinner there on a couple of occasions and the food is excellent. More importantly the staff are friendly and helpful and really made us feel welcome. Rates and pricing are very competitive
I would have not hesitation in recommending or staying at the Bowes incline again

From the moment we entered the hotel, everything was excellent and beyond expectations.
The room was very clean and decorated / furnished to a good standard.
We ate in the hotel and the food was really good and clearly homemade. Portion sizes were unbelievable!!
As for breakfast, again nothing was a problem and the food was very tasty.
Gluten free options were readily available and knowledge on food allergens was good.
The staff were brilliant morning, noon and night and we were made to feel so welcome.
We will definitely be visiting again!

Just returned from our 3rd friends reunion weekend stay here. For obvious reasons it’s a while since we’ve got together and we were happy to find this was still a great place to stay. The rooms have been refurbished to a very good standard and as always are clean and adequately stocked with the necessary to make a hot drink.
The breakfast was basic and fair to say better the first morning than the second. The minor issues we had were dealt with quickly and with a smile. We would have preferred a bigger selection of fruit (even dried fruit) to accompany cereals but as we paid less than £75 each for 2 nights it was great value.
We ate in the pub both nights and everyone in our party loved their food.
The staff were without exception friendly, efficient and professional.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable good value place to stay with great food.
