Sunday carvery not expensive, but you get what you pay for! The meat was OK, the vegetables were not hot or varied. My sweet was a cake with cream on and a raspberry layer - shame it was still frozen. Just weak excuses.
The service was good.

Unfortunately cannot possibly recommend. Staff very friendly but sadly lacking in training. The room was terrible, carpet badly stained, curtains don't hang properly and very poor quality, bed just ok but cheap quality. Bathroom needs complete refurbishment, shower not much better than a pathetic dribble. No toiletries supplied, not even so much as a tablet of soap. Towels small, and not changed. Tea and coffee supplied but had to ask for clean cups each day. Room including bathroom not cleaned in 5 days.
Will not be returning. Had we not paid in advance we would have left after 1st night.

Booked the Kings Head Hotel simply for it's good location for my work the following day. I am not a picky person who examines every nook and cranny so I found the Kings Head as a good pub with rooms, ample car parking, friendly check-in service, room was fine with comfortable bed, old style tv with freeview box, usual frills and clean bathroom. Room overlooked town center and road so some noise but didn't bother me after I shut the window. Didn't eat here so cannot comment on the food but expect good pub grub and drinks. Breakfast started at 7.30am which was too late for me as I needed to leave at around 7am although this was not a major problem. Would have no issues with using this hotel again.

Check in:

We had booked three rooms for our one night stay as we were having a memorial at the pub that day. We we're told that our room was available from 12:30, we were not given the keys to the final room until 14:30. Not very helpful when the memorial started at 15:00.

The room:

Our room was horrible. Considering we had waited 2 hours for our room we had expected that it would at least be clean! However, the bins had not been emptied, the shower had hairs in, the shower curtain was yellow and the sink was dirty. We think that the only thing that had been changed was the bed sheets (we hope they had been anyway!). The bed was hard and uncomfortable and the old style windows did not close properly. We are not fussy, as long as a room is clean we are generally happy, however this hotel did not even meet that expectation.

The memorial:

The food for the memorial were standard picky bits which were nice.

The evening:

The pub had a live singer for the Saturday night, the singer was very talented so we had a great night. However we also had older relatives with us who were unable to sleep due to the inadequate sound proofing to the bar.

Breakfast:

When we checked into our rooms we were given breakfast sheets so we could inform the kitchen what we wanted. However, when we came down to breakfast we were informed there was only enough bacon for two of our party because it had not been defrosted! We were shocked to say the least. As for the rest of the breakfast, the mushrooms were rubbery, the tomatoes were not cooked, the beans were cold and the sausages were inedible.

The staff:

Although the staff were nice, it seemed as if they majorly lacked direction and management. For many of the staff it felt as if it was their first time on the job.

Have visited a few times both before the new owners took over and after. The Pub and Hotel are in desperate need of a makeover. Kitchen closed every other month, due to no chef. Most staff are friendly and attentive, but some, including the manager, need to reevaluate how they treat and speak to customers. It's a shame as it could be a very successful pub, but it is seriously lacking in some of the most important areas that most hospitality businesses rely on for regular business.

Lovely staff but shocking hotel, dirty carpets, bed so uncomfortable as springs digging out of mattress, place smells of grease, shower dribbled out and room cold. It looks uninviting from the road. It has great potential but needs some serious tlc and is nowhere near worth 90 a night.

Awful room, dirty carpet & walls, plug socket hanging from the wall, bottom of bathroom door hanging off, rotten window frames, room & bedding smelled of stale cooking. No choice of breakfast besides a fry up which was horrible.
How this place survived is beyond me!

I stupidly mixed this up with another Kings Head in a village not far away, which has great reviews. Alarm bells started to ring that they could't be organised enough to send an email to confirm booking.
On arrival to see a board stating no chef, so no food, when you have booked breakfast was concening.
Going into the bar mid afternoon, to be warmly greeted by the same lady who had twiced promised to confirm by email, VERY loud music and drunk people at the bar.
We actually left as fast as we could! Managed to find another very nice place thank goodness!
Looking back at the reviews it seems that things went downhill fast about 18 months ago with new management?

Stayed at the Kings Head for an over night business trip. Room was immaculate, clean and warm, bed was very comfortable too as often there like lying on concrete. The food was beautiful as was breakfast. Staff very attentive and nothing too much trouble. This hotel is a hidden gem whether your away for work or looking for somewhere to base yourself while on a vacation, it ticks all the boxes. Can definitely recommend.

Myself and a friend called into the pub For a drink after watching a show in the new memorial hall up the road.
The 2 bar staff that where working (chatting to each other) seemed annoyed that we had disturbed their conversation and wanted a drink!
We both ordered a wine....... Very expensive...... And tasted sour.
I had one sip and my friend drank hers.
2 hours later my friend was sick, and continued to be sick for hours all through the night.
This could have been a coincidence?!
Either way, we will NOT be going back there.
