we are locals (oinks) and thought we'd have a nice relaxed Sunday evening meal out and chose the much publicised, raved about Pig. Unfortunately on arrival we were met not by staff but by barefooted children running amok in the bar / hallway being chased by fathers making hell of a din. Every reception area for pre dinner drinks was...

Second visit to the Pig at Brockenhurst and its my favourite out of the 3 that I've been to... Love the surrounding New Forest area with the ponies and donkeys freely ambling around. Laid back shabby chic interior and good food. One of my "faves".

Very busy, even in the middle of the week in the middle of January. Log fires in all the general rooms. Cosy bar. The trademark row of Wellington boots by the front door. Very friendly, well trained young staff. The bedrooms are all designed differently and spacious with log burner fires (although I couldn't get mine to light!) but if...

In a market stuffed fuller than the Chesterfields in their suites with rural hotels touting fancy weekends for couples clad in still waxy Barbours, families in smart M&S chinos celebrating Nana’s 75th and locals nursing a glass of prosecco (‘Ow much!?!..) how best to identify those that are truly worth leaving the safety of London for? I believe – and...

I had high hopes for this restaurant having read and heard some good reviews. You'll have to book way in advance as this place is very popular. The location is lovely and the restaurant itself is pleasant, situated in a large conservatory however at night it is very dark and quite difficult to read the menu and see your food....

Arriving on a rather damp January afternoon, it was lovely to enter the homely and warm reception. Staff were polite and welcoming in an informal way. Lovely cosy room with stylish country house decor. We were staying here with another couple, for a birthday celebration, so a great place for a special occasion. Great setting , and must be lovely...

One of my favourite places for a quiet lunch.... Lovely waiters in jeans and converse. Very very happy to see us. Gorgeous dining room. Casual and exclusive and beautiful and relaxed, all at the same time. Warning. Warning. The "extraordinary chap" is not the name of the waiter, it is (indeed) a fairly extraordinary piece of meat. It is slow...

The staff are very friendly and helpful. Their lovely smile made us feel welcome. The room (Pig's shed) was really nice. Great shower and bath. The restaurant servers fresh home grown produce. Overall, the stay was relaxing and enjoyable. Will visit again.

We have been to the pig a few times now, but it's never blown us away. The service is average and food over priced for its overall plate, and presentation is very much lacking. Taste nothing sensational for the prices charged.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Pig is a bang up to date take on a new style of home grown, 26 bedroom country house hotel and what that needs to be today - original, relaxed and sitting comfortably within its environment. It's really a restaurant with rooms. This is a place that is all about the walled garden and everything is driven by the gardener/forager and chef - they grow and find the food - the chef then makes the menu. The style is home grown in every way - breaking the mold of designed hotels, daring to be comfortable in its own skin, working with what it has and recognising what is good about that. It won't be perfect, it will be warm, relaxed, comfy, interesting, and homely with muted colours, a bit shabby chic and evolved rather than interior designed. ... more   less
