Bideford town has very limited hotel choice, but the Royal was a surprisingly high quality for a 3* hotel. Relaxing bar and very good breakfast. Most staff were friendly and v helpful. Only downside is traffic noise.

My partner won us a night away here through Radio Exe for valentines day. It was so beautiful as a first impression and it only got better throughout our stay. They had a special valentines menu which was incredible. My partner is a chef by trade and wanted to shake the head chefs hand by the end of it but...

Friendly reception. Room super hot when we got there but could manage temp. by self. Shower was only ok - weird position and a bit noisy. Bed comfy and the hotel allows dogs which is great - although think 10 quid for a dog is rather steep! Breakfast was standard hotel brekky but good and a nice pot of tea!...

Just got back from a short break at The Royal. In one word "Excellent ". Food was very, very good. Staff friendly but professional. The hotel itself is a little slice of history. Was going to book via a booking site but when on the hotel web sight saw they had a Feb flash sale. Value for money was beyond...

The Royal is a very comfortable hotel right on the Tarka Trail cycle route. Everything looks smart, is in good condition, and works! The restaurant is excellent - congratulations to the chef. A great hotel in a good central location. The Kingsley room was fantastic with a huge bed and luxurious bathroom. The food and service were very good and all the staff were very helpful. Looking forward to returning in the future.

A very comfortable bedroom. Excellent breakfast! I was running a historical fiction at the hotel and the staff all went out of there way to help. The break time coffee was excellent and the 17th century Kinsley room was a stunning backdrop for a creative writing workshop.

A lovely solid, well maintained old building. Receptionists, dining room and bar staff are very friendly and attentive. The food is good. Rooms are very clean, quiet and maintained to a good standard. All linen and towels pristine. Only the somewhat outdated bathroom suite let my experience down. Hot water took a long time to come through and temperature was...

Enjoyed another break at the Royal hotel, and impressed by the new restaurant and other re-furbishments. Our room was very clean and comfortable, also spacious. Only criticism of room was the outlet in hand basin very slow to empty and needs attention - room 110. Stayed on B&B basis, and enjoyed the buffet, with options for freshly cooked eggs, plenty...

Nothing was too much trouble at the Royal Hotel. Convenient parking in their own private car park opposite the entrance. There is a lift, so it matters not if you are disabled, as I am. Everything is spick and span and the staff were most helpful. Breakfast and dinner was superb. Highly recommended.

“Rooms 001 and 002 can be a little noisy as they are adjacent to the main road in from Barnstable. They do have secondary double glazing which does help. I assume it is not fully glazes due to Listed Status. Room 001 is used as dog friendly so is ideally suited for taking your dog out without having to walk through the Hotel.....the trade off for taking your dog on hoilday”
