Four night stay at the beautiful Douneside House. We stayed in the main house. Nice room with original features if a little warm (but who can account for the current heat wave). The house and the gardens are truly beautiful. Stunning views. Had dinner in the restaurant on our first night. Food delicious, beautifully presented. Amongst the best I've had. Breakfast equally good. We didn't want formal dining each evening so went into Ballater on two of the four nights (be sure to book in advance of your trip). We had the informal dining menu in the middle of our stay. Again lovely. The staff were wonderful through out our stay. Truly professional, paying attention to the small things that really make your stay and taking time to recognise us personally on sight. Hope to return.

We spent a delightful weekend at Douneside House. The location is stunning with lovely grounds to enjoy the view. We stayed in one of the apartments which was well appointed and equipped. The food is excellent and very well presented. All staff are very attentive and knowledge. The location is perfect for exploring the Deeside area. The health club is a great bonus. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed for a night after getting married and unfortunately forgot our swimwear so couldn't make use of the health club and the weather was miserable (beautiful for our wedding, all that mattered that week!) so also couldn't enjoy the grounds. However, our dinner more than made up for that. The food is exquisite, every mouthful and every dish beautifully presented and interesting flavours and textures that feels like a journey of wonderful discovery. How the celeriac mousse just melted in your mouth but left this lingering flavour was amazing. The staff were all very attentive, although i think we sometimes took a little too long over courses! Our room was spacious but too warm and we had a terrace which would've been lovely if it hadn't been raining. Sitting in the bar with a drink and a view before our meal and sitting in the lounge with a book after breakfast was thoroughly relaxing. It was busy but felt so peaceful, hats off to the staff for creating this ambience. I do feel a bit arrogant saying this, but it would have been a nice touch to arrive to a congratulations or the information booklet in our room to be addressed to my new married name. But we'd love to return to taste the lunch menu, the only one we've not tried yet having had afternoon tea before which was also divine.

Thank you so much for the lovely review. Getting the perfect weather for your wedding was definitely the most important that week! As I mentioned in my email to you, so sorry we didn't pick up on your married name, I know how special these moments are. We'll hopefully look forward to welcoming you both back for lunch again soon - and you can be as leisurely as you wish at Douneside! Kind regards, Gillian

We stayed in one of the smaller rooms in the main house, which felt more spacious than the photos on the website suggested, and there were plenty of nicely furnished reception rooms to relax in, too. The staff were very professional, approachable and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. The food was phenomenal - we were only going to have breakfast there on our first couple of mornings, but it was so good that we ended up treating ourselves to breakfast at Douneside every day. Dinner was unbelievable! We lost count of the number of courses, each one an expertly crafted experience of unconventional flavour combinations. It was lovely to relax in the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna at the end of the day - another real treat! To top it all off, the setting, between the mountains of Aberdeenshire to the east and The Cairngorms to the west, was stunning, with their own beautifully kept lawns and RHS garden from which to enjoy the view.
