Having to change our travel plans due to the pesky virus meant that we could holiday in the UK (first time since 1986...shocking). Thinking a visit to the Lake District would be nice, I booked 3 nights at the Ryebeck thinking it looked like a good place to base ourselves. The hotel is very attractive inside and out, set in pleasant gardens with views across to the lake. We had a ground floor 'superb' room which, though not quite superb, was very nicely appointed, quiet, comfortable and suited our needs. We ate in the restaurant for our first night only. The menu was rather limited but we enjoyed our meals of Cheese Fondue and Goats Cheese tart followed by Gnocchi and Baked Cod. My husband had Sticky Toffee pudding to finish but this wasn't nearly as good as the previous courses. There is plenty of competence in the hotel kitchen. Our quiet comfortable room provided good nights sleep and in the morning breakfasts were excellent, cooked well and of a good size; too large for me sadly. The staff were obviously well trained and the place seemed to run smoothly. I would like to return sometime with my mother who would I am sure love it.

The hotel is in an elevated position overlooking Windermere "lake" and the hills to the North and West, with lovely scenery to improve your mood.
The public rooms are old world furnishing and the ambience difficult to judge, but they are very pleasant.
The staff were very friendly and reasonably attentive, though it would help to have a broader range of soft drinks to offer drivers and non-drinkers.
The food was quite superb and beautifully presented, far more imaginative than the menu suggested. This is a must repeat for foodies!
The wine range was well sourced from a long established wine merchant, reasonably priced and delightful. The Romanian pinot grigio was a revelation and the Sticky Mickey dessert wine was glorious. Also try the Lakes gin, made with the pure water from Skiddaw, one of the Lake District's highest mountains.
If you like fine dining, come here and give your taste buds a real treat.

We’ve just returned from a 4 night break away at The Ryebeck. This place is truly wonderful. We enjoyed it so much and we will definitely be returning in the future. The food, staff and atmosphere were all amazing. They were incredibly welcoming and the food was excellent, we ate there every evening.
The room was cosy and comfortable and even provided a dog bed, bowls, a towel and treats for our dog. Such a lovely touch. The gardens are well maintained and the views from the patio at the rear of the property are stunning, over looking the lakes and fells.

Thank you to all the staff for making our stay a perfect and relaxing experience :-)

We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights during the week. The hotel is a 5 minute drive (25 min walk) outside of Bowness on Windermere. On a night we got a taxi into the centre which cost just under £5. The bar is quite small as there is only 5 seating areas but it’s cute, they offer a variety of drinks and charge to the room. There is plenty of room to park and it’s free. The breakfast was a highlight! They offered dairy free/vegan alternatives as well! They offered a continental breakfast and hot breakfast options on the menu, they had American pancakes which most places would charge extra for this luxury but here it’s included in the price! Unfortunately they ran out of American pancake batter the next morning we stayed which was disappointing but you’ve got to be quick as it’s a popular choice! Breakfast was served 8-10. One of the down sides was there was no iron in the room when it said these facilities would be provided in the room on the website. When using the tap it would splash all over as if someone was working on the plumbing each time you use it. Also not sure if the walls are pretty thin or if our room was next to a boiler but when the room next door used their water you could hear it very loudly through the pipes so when they had a shower at 6:45 in the morning it’s fair to say I was up for the day! Overall I would stay here again, good value for money and close to the centre!!

Breakfast was good. Lady on reception rude and unhelpful esp with wifi connectivity. Shower never ran cold, cold water tap permanently hot. Total lack of interest from same lady. Refused to connect me to a manager. Outside decor is very tatty, rotten wood on doors and windows. Only one unisex toilet for the whole hotel downstairs.

Warm, clean, good beds, plenty of towels and friendly staff, beautifully furnished and clean The hotel supplied what we'd expect for a three star place.

The food was a mixture of very good (the lamb, the breakfast) and the wildly over-ambitious (the egg salad and the olive oil lemon tart). I commend the chef for trying, but more balance, more restraint and judgement are needed.

Also the waiter will probably remember to show the bottle to the guest before pouring the wine next time, but to be fair he did fix the problem with no fuss, and for that he gets full marks.

I haven't given five stars as there were some problems with our room, one of which I mentioned to the staff but which wasn't fixed while we out, (and 9:20 in the evening is not the time to start fixing taps).

But I can't fault the willingness of the staff, the presentation of the hotel, the selection at the bar and above all the situation. The windows may rattle but the view from the lounge is truly stunning. Add to which they fixed the pot hole in the drive while we were there, which says a lot about the attention to detail and the level of service they are trying to achieve.

We stayed a week at the ryebeck in windermere with the dog
The room was absolutely lovely overlooking Lake windermere
The dog was even catered for with a little doggy bed, biscuits, bowls & even poo bags!
We had breakfast there every morning which was lovely if a bit chaotic as you could only sit in the lounge area with the dog... One morning they tried to sit us at an extremely low coffee table which we declined as it was way too low to eat full English breakfast from. So we then had to wait a while to be seated even though our breakfast was booked at 9
Not much choice on the evening meal menu either but the food was nice.
Nice hotel just a shame its too far from anything including shops, facilities unless you drive.

As a family we would like to say a big thank you to everyone at The Ryebeck Hotel for making our mini, half term break the best it could be. The staff at reception and in the restaurant were so friendly and couldn’t do more for either our little girl or Poppy (our pup).
The room was spacious and bright. We had a travel cot left for us and also a dog bed. The bed is super comfy and the bathroom is modern with a lovely shower. Our room also opened onto a small and private patio which was perfect for Poppy and I can imagine it is lovely to sit outside in the Summer.
Breakfast was great and we were all full every time! We also had dinner on the first night which was also lovely. Wine is also good and needed after a long day walking!
Location wise the hotel is perfect. Super quick drive into Windermere and lots of walks on the doorstep.
Cleanliness wise, the room was spotless and you would never have known any dogs had stayed previously. Masks are worn by all and everything was clean with lots of hand sanitiser in entry and around the hotel.
So, thank you again to all at the Ryebeck. We booked on short notice but we would happily book again in the future. 🌟😊

We stayed for 2 nights at the Ryebeck , as it was the venue for my daughters wedding. We had an amazing celebration made all the more special by the attentive staff with an eye for detail .The location is stunning with views of Lake Windermere. The hotel is quietly majestic. Clean ,comfortable with helpful friendly staff. The food was fantastic and generous portions showing imaginative use of local seasonal ingredients. The gardens and roof terrace are pretty with native wildflowers and a pond. The staff couldn't do enough to ensure the day went smoothly. We look forward to returning for a mini break some time soon.

I had previously contacted the hotel requesting a disabled room with a wet room and was assured that this would be provided. On arriving at the hotel I was given a room with no disabled access plus a shower with a big step into and out of and no grab rails which meant I needed to pull myself up off the toilet using the towel rail. The receptionist said that’s what they had and the one room with a walk in shower had been given to someone else. The receptionist also had no idea what an adapted bathroom was but at least we got our money back. The room was tired and the carpet was filthy. The bed was very uncomfortable. The food in the evening was good but very expensive. The breakfast could only be described as mediocre. We will not be returning.

Thank you '60sianb' for your review. We have taken all your feedback on board and action is being taken in the various departments. We're sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us and for the miscommunication prior to your booking. Unfortunately, our accessibility room was fully booked at the time of your stay but I can assure you that if we could have made it available, we would have but unfortunately, this couldn't be done in this instance. We're glad you had a lovely evening meal and hope you enjoyed the Lake District nonetheless. We wish you all the best for the future and hope to see you return to us for a much improved and enjoyable stay. The Ryebeck Team

We have an alternative walk which is paved the whole way. Please exit the hotel entrance and turn left and then take the first left you come to down Long Tail Hill. At the bottom of the hill you will see a road directly across which leads to the Marina, take this road and past the car park on the right there is a short lakeside walk which takes you into Bowness village. This takes about 20-25 minutes.
