My family and I decided to have a week away near the Lake District. We are a massively outdoor family and we’re super excited to come up here. Last minute booked into the suites here and were not disappointed by them at all. The hotel itself was LOVELY. Gorgeous rooms with most of the appliances needed for self catering. There was a lovely restaurant/bar downstairs as well.
My mum and dad had one room which was a studio flat. It was perfect! Decor was beautiful, perfect for the stay and even had a jacuzzi bath in the bedroom.
My brother and I stayed in a different room that was split level and had a smaller bedroom and kitchen sofa area. Only problem with the bedroom for us there was no area to sit and get ready to go out. We were given a hairdryer but no accessible mirror.
There was cleaners that could come in daily as well which was a nice option to have.
We drank in the bar most evening and the staff were welcoming and remembered us each evening. We ate there the first and last night. Nice menu option and good service. Seemed slightly understaffed on the last night which made the service slightly slow but was made up by the food.
Only downside was the location. Although we could’ve done our research into where we were staying we were shocked to see such a nice hotel on a high street that could only be described as rough. If you could pick this place up and drop it closer to the lakes or a slightly nicer town it would be perfect, however I would not feel safe going outside by myself at night or bringing children here.

This trip was our first since Covid and we weren't let down, the Townhouse is a gem on a rather questionable street in Barrow. It's a little out of place in the area.
We checked in with a friendly member of staff, our room (3) was a very decent size, this room didn't have a kitchenette whereas the other rooms did have some cooking facilities.
Our room included a fridge, coffee, tea & milk, nice bathroom, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, television and lots of storage space. We also had a jet bath in the corner of the room! Comfortable king size bed.
We also spent an evening in the bar and restaurant, the staff were hard working and although busy they were polite and helpful. Our food was okay, my starter of Stilton mushrooms were beautiful, however the carbonara wasn't the best. Decent cocktail menu, all very well priced, I was also allowed to use my NHS discount which worked out very reasonable. Would definitely return to stay at the Townhouse, great location in terms of being central and not too far from walking areas/the lakes. Thank you!

Me and my partner came away for 4 nights for my birthday and babymoon.

What a beautiful hotel. The decor is stunning in both the rooms and the restaurant, the staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was lovely. We enjoyed a pizza one evening and afternoon tea on the Sunday which was lovely. I am pregnant so my drink options were limited but one of the bar staff made me some beautiful mocktails and I could see there were a huge variety of alcoholic drinks too.

The room was beautiful decorated with lots of homely decor. The TV had Netflix which was a nice touch after a long day of walking around. The only down side was the room was VERY warm with only a small window to open, which you couldn’t have open when asleep due to the seagulls, and a fan which didn’t do a lot. With being pregnant I didn’t enjoy the 4 nights sleep I had. I do feel the room could benefit from an air con unit.

Although this is not the fault of the hotel, we parked in their free car park and our car was damaged badly by what looks like someone reversing into the front passenger side. The only reason I am mentioning this on the review is that the hotel does not take ANY car information from the customers and the car park can be used by local businesses and residents. There are minimal spaces in the car park and i do not feel the hotel should advertise their car park if it is a free for all. This meant that we could not find out who hit our car as the hotel had no record of who had been in the car park. I understand that the hotel has no liability for the damages, however it would have been helpful to of known who was in the car park that evening/morning but this could have been anyone apparently. Once we had informed the hotel of the incident they did give us a free round of drinks which was very nice of them.

The surrounding area was a little run down, although when you were inside you would think you were in a hot bar in London. There wasn’t a lot to do in barrow but with a short drive you were at the lakes. We attended the local zoo which was a great day out and went to Windermere for the day too.

An overall good stay with an unfortunate accident.

Me and 14 others visiting for my 18th birthday and we left really not impressed.

My mum and her girlfriend don’t drink and usually this isn’t an issue, we went to the bar to ask what alcohol free beer was available and the man behind the bar looked at us very concerned. He think pulled out 2 different types and were told that’s all they could offer us. I just feel there’s not an excuse for not having a wider selection.

So anyway, we sat down and waited for our food and two extra meals came out which had been taken off the order earlier that day as two people had cancelled.

We were then missing a townhouse burger and a duck dish which we had to wait another 20 minutes for.

For the price, the food was not acceptable, nothing that we’d ordered came as description on the menu. For example i ordered the sea bass which was meant to come with scallops and a sea food risotto.
But it was sadly just two pieces of fish and some pathetic greenery.

After we’d ate we got up to pay individual and as we’d reached the end there were the two extra meals added on. We explained and told them we shouldn’t have to pay as they were cancelled, not only this but they also added on the extra burger if we’d have known this we would’ve just swapped and found space for the extra two meals.

Over all not a very nice experience and the man behind the bar was particularly rude.

I’d struggle to return for anything other than drinks (even which are over priced.)

My partner gifted me for my birthday a package of two night spent at this hotel. The room assigned to us was very big and bright with a comfortable bed (and very crisp linen which I love) as well as for a spacious bathroom with a huge shower.
We had dinner twice and overall it was great, the appetisers were tasty as well as for the pizzas, the only items which we found a little bit at fault was the burger, but it doesn’t change our mind. Breakfast was brought to the room in the evening with fresh pastries, yoghurt, granola, jam and OJ is a very nice touch, delicious.
Regarding the location, as another person mention in the comment, the area is not great: a lot of shops have closed down or they are being refurbished and quite a lot of homeless/drunk people shouting in the street.

We had the most amazing time at the Townhouse thankyou so much for your hospitality. Everything was perfect from start to finish and nothing was too much hassel. The rooms are absolutely stunning and the food was delicious especially the puddings and the waiters especially nicole and emily were amazing! We ordered the fillet steak each which was gorgeous especially the chips and we were reccomended the sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate hazelnut brownie. Both were beautiful. We were so lucky to win the Facebook competition and this was our first time away from our 2 year old daughter, which I was really apprehensive about but we slept great. As a couple we will defintiely be back thanks again!

Did a two night stay here with a Travel Zoo deal. There are good points along with not so good points. The main negative has to be the location, which is on a pretty rundown/rough high street, which is ok if you are only going to use it as a base whilst exploring the other very picturesque bits of the Lake District.
The bar/restaurant area downstairs was very, very nice as was the food . . .we had a voucher to use the first night as part of the deal, and we chose to eat there the second night as well. Staff were all really friendly and helpful, so no complaints on that score at all.
Room was nice and spacious, very clean and decor was modern. Unfortunately there seemed to be an issue with the carpet area surrounding the bath in the bedroom, which had a very strong smell of damp, and also felt damp to the touch. They may have already been aware of the issue as there were two air fresheners in the room. So personally this spoilt the stay a bit, there is no dedicated reception area, but we did tell a member of the bar staff, who assured us he would inform the General Manager.

We stayed in the Ulverston suite and it was lovely. Clean and tasteful decor. Everything you need, hair drier, iron and ironing board, wine glasses. There is a couple of wooden games in the room noughts and crosses and dominoes which is a nice touch. Full size fridge. Shower is great and the spa bath was a welcomed treat. Bed was very comfortable, we would definitely stay here again.
Unfortunately, we probably wouldn’t dine again. We booked a table as we were treating family and although the food could not be faulted, every meal we ordered was beautiful, the service was not the best. One waitress made you feel as though you were an effort and the more cheery one asked if we wanted anything more but walked off before I had chance to answer. I didn’t find them attentive at all, it was a real shame. As mentioned though the food was delicious.
The only other comment I would add is (and puts me off eating here again) the chef goes out the back for a cigarette and his chef whites were disgusting….i have been a chef and yes you get food on them but these were grubby! Had I seen them before the meal I would have cancelled the table.

My partner and I were staying in the hotel as part of a Groupon deal. We ate in the restaurant on the first night as food was included in the deal. We arrived at the bar and were served by a young woman, I ordered a Shiraz and my partner asked about local ales, unfortunately she did not seem to know any of the ales and asked me to point out the Shiraz, the only one, on the drinks menu. Another waiter came over and he helped to serve us. My partner asked if we could have the tab added to our room, now an 'unfortunately we can't can't do that' would have sufficed, however we got a flat 'no'. Very rude attitude. We were then shown to a brightly lit booth and ordered food. I ordered the smoked haddock kedgeree and poached egg and my partner the bao buns with 3 fillings. Mine was terrible, salty and acidic, and the egg was in batter. Bao buns were ok. My partner ordered the fish and chips and I ordered meat balls and spaghetti. The same waitress as before on placing the food on the table ended up tipping half of my partner's on the table, she hadn't a clue on how to manage the situation, seemed very poorly trained, see photo, this was after I put the chips back on the plate. I had to send mine back, totally inedible, my partner eats pretty much anything and even he could not eat this, again the same flavour as my starter. The waiter who was abrupt previously came back to the table and rather just agreeing with me insisted the chef doesn't season anything, bit odd. I ordered fish and chips instead. How on earth can you get mushy peas and tartare sauce wrong, same for my partner too. By this time the noise from other customers was terrible. I asked for a new knife and fork, he returned and just dumped this on the table, said nothing, very rude and unprofessional. Deserts were ok although I expected the cappuccino mouse to be just that, instead it was hard ice-cream with foam on the top. There was one waiter who was professional. Overall a terrible experience. Obviously the bar man prefers to serve rowdy locals.

Stayed and ate at The Townhouse Bar and Grill, couldn’t complain with either of the two (room or food).
We chose to stay here as part of a couples trip to The Lakes. We did our research beforehand and was aware of the location so was only ever expecting to use it as hub to venture out to other parts of the Lake District. It actually pleasantly surprised us , despite being on a high street. If you’re staying here expecting rural Lake District then you will be in for quite a unpleasant surprise. However, if you take it for what it is, a lovely establishment, clean, spacious with more than what you need, you’ll be just fine.
