Travelodge Durham is often celebrated for its excellent value, featuring clean, spacious rooms in a central location that offers easy access to the city's highlights. The hotel's historic charm as a former railway station adds to its character, and guests frequently commend the attentive and friendly service. While some reviewers have raised concerns about road noise and Wi-Fi charges, the overall consensus is that it provides a comfortable and convenient stay with the bonus of free parking, despite the occasional mention of dated bathrooms.

We always stay here and more often than not we are allocated a room in the top annex. We paid the £10 early check in so we could get rid of our bags and go into town .
Obviously due to covid restrictions a few things have changed .
No one replenishes the tea and coffee facilities so make sure if you see a cleaner ask for some as you don’t get much .
No hairdryer ( I always take my own but just in case you don’t )
Still a high level of cleanliness so can’t complain about that .
A few noisy people staying in the room above us but usually it’s pretty quiet when we have stayed on previous occasions
Sambuka (the Italian joined on ) never disappoints
Cheap and cheerful and good atmosphere if you want a meal when you get there

We stayed at Durham Travelodge in January 2020 due to location and ease of parking. The room was clean and comfortable. My husband is disabled and the female receptionist could not have been more helpful arranging a suitable room with the minimum of fuss.

It was a pleasure to stay in this hotel in Durham. Everything was top notch, from the booking system, email communication (actually helpful info, not just standard marketing blah) , reception, room standard to check-out.

For a trip to Durham city, the location is perfect. It is a short stroll into the heart of Durham. Though located right next to a main roadway, the hotel is blissfully quiet.

The tariff was very reasonable. Other central hotels were far more expensive and to beat the price would mean being several miles further from the city centre. There was free parking available but we used public transport so being central was important.

I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Check in was quick and straightforward, friendly staff.

We were staying in the annexe. Room was clean and simple as expected but there is a major problem with the heat.. these rooms are like an oven. Yes we had unusually warm weather this August weekend but by the Sunday it was cooler outside and the room was still unbelievably hot. We had a fan between the three of us but it was so uncomfortable it spoiled the time we spent in the room. We where actually dreading going back on an evening because we knew it would be so uncomfortable. We couldn’t have been the only family who suffered. We where in room 47 for reference..

Please consider either giving out more fans or installing air con because for this reason we wouldn’t stay again which is a shame because it’s in such a good location.

A very good stay at Durham travel Lodge first weekend in January. We were visiting family so very convenient. Travel Lodge allow dogs ( a main reason for choosing Travel Lodge), also of course the reasonable price when you just need a base. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Even when the fire alarm went off in the early hours as a false alarm the staff on duty were very apologetic and of course it is good to know that there is a good alarm system in place!

We had a fab weekend stay at the Travelodge in Durham just a ten minute walk from the centre. This hotel was very clean the staff were very courteous and very helpful. The room was like vely spaciouse and the bed was so comfy loads of space and the shower over the bath was very powerful we can not fault this hotel and exceptionally great value compared to other hotels in the city. Well done to the staff and we will be back again soon.

What you see is what you get. The room was spotless the bed very comfortable the shower was hot and easy to use, though we had to climb into the bath to have it. The reception staff were perfunctory at best tho not rude but check in was easy and checkout easier. Our other quibble was that there were only basic tv stations available and the wifi was not free and slow. Also the chairs were basic and too uncomfortable to spend more that 10 minutes in. However a big plus for the Durham Travel Lodge is that it has a good and reasonably priced Italan restaurant attached.

I walked from Durham railway station to Travelodge Durham. Which is not far to walk. However the hotel is hard to find, if you are walking. This is because, even near the hotel the entrance is not sufficiently lit up for you to see the Hotel entrance. The Hotel needs a light to shine on the Hotel notice at the entrance to the hotel to the left of the Italian Restaurant. You can see the hotel sign during the day but not when it is dark.

Also when you arrive, if you are staying in the new building block of rooms you are told to go under the tunnel and turn left, then proceed forward bearing to your right. The sign lettering directing customers staying in the room 200 etc is very faded, it can be read during the day not at night. The numbers directing customers to their rooms requires to be repainted or a light shining on the sign. Also when you proceed to the new red bricked building, which does not look like it is part of the hotel. It looks like private flats and requires a Travelodge sign that you can see after coming from under the tunnel, which is bright showing where to go to your room. I would put the sign on the corner of the new red bricked building, so you can see it when you look left after coming out of the Travelodge tunnel and you know exactly where you are going. This might sound trivial but when it is late at night and you have been traveling on a train for hours carrying luggage you just want to get to your room.

This is a great Travelodge in Durham, located in a quiet but convenient spot just 10 minutes walk from the city centre. It’s great value for money with free parking (and you’re invited to use the parking before or after the start/end of your stay). The staff really are friendly and helpful. It’s clean and it’s comfy and it’s welcoming - a nice little touch are the trays of tea bags/coffee/sugar/milk in the reception areas so that you can help yourself if you need more. There’s 30 minutes of free WiFi but if you need more, it’s £3 for 24 hours. We’ll be back!
