We are on holiday in the U.K. from Australia and starting a tour of Scotland. The hotel was booked 12 months ago with the manager John Francis Murphy who was very pleasent and took our large payment. Arrived today at the Hotel, "what a shock" a burnt out ruin. Why didn't Mr Murphy tell us there was a problem? Staying...

After reading good reports on the internet I booked a room online. Arrived early evening after a long journey from London. NIGHTMARE, the hotel was in complete state of devastation ( I found out later there had been a fire in August 2009). Tried to find the owner and spoke to someone who claimed to be him (called himself Mr...

We booked the hotel in July 2009 and was looking forward to a break after the New Year Festivities. Upon arrival we had a no welcome and found that our room had a rather smokey atmosphere. The lighting was non existent but we were able to enjoy the stars through the ceiling in the room. Its a pity the owner...

We stayed at The Otter as we were at a wedding there, the food was excellent, we ended up staying two more nights. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food in the restaurant fantastic!!!! Our room was lovely and breakfasts brilliant, overall a great stay.

Four of us stayed at the Otter in September for a wedding reception. The place was very dated, not refurbished and had a musty funny smell. Our room had a shower which never got above cold ( the other room we booked didnt even have a shower), the towel rack kept falling off the wall, door number fell off etc.......

The Otter Hotel West Auckland, off road parking, friendly and efficient staff, a comfortable bed, good food, excellent breakfast, a good experience and value for money, What more could you ask for, I would recommend this hotel and certainly stay there again.

This hotel's website is grossly misleading. It promises much but delivers little. It most certainly is not refurbished, I saw evidence of new? unpainted doors but my room was dreadful. I echo the review made by Redman. Unfortunately we did stay the night as we were visiting friends close by and there was no time to make other arrangements. There is...

Myself and a business colleague booked this hotel as stopover prior to our meetings in Newcastle the following day. First impressions when arriving was that the building looked run-down and the car park was like a building site. We checked in and my bedroom (room 12) did not contain a shower!!. The room was dark, musty and in need of...

Booked this as a 'stop-over' on our journey from the Midlands to Edinburgh. This is a newly refurbished hotel and has changed it's name to The Otter. The new owner is taking great pains to transform this hotel as I imagine it was quite shabby and 'run down' before the refurb. Overall the service was excellent and the food was...
