Not our first visit. One very nice Sunday lunch, tho perhaps more expensive than those locally and comparable for quality. 2nd Sunday lunch visit - same menu choice, very poor (burnt tasteless pre prepared Yorkshires, soggy over cooked vegetables, watery gravy etc ). It's a fabulous, historic coaching Inn much published for fine dining and having read a review in...

Just come back from this amazing hotel we went with some friends unfortunately only stayed one night, but from booking in with the lovely friendly receptionist (the blonde curly hair ) to the spotless clean room gorgeous towels, and most importantly the amazing food we have stayed in top class hotels but this beats it all we will go back...

A lovely old hostelry in the centre of this beautiful old market town, the food is locally sourced and well presented, modest cost and quick efficient service. The two bars are cosy - especially in winter when the open fires are lit. Dogs are welcome (as are children). The steaks are always cooked precisely how I have asked, I thoroughly recommend...

Return visit to The White Swan, after a lovely stay last year. Lovely to arrive after a day out in Whitby to have a great pint of Landlord next to a roaring fire. Stayed in a standard room, smaller than the superior vintage one I stayed in last tie but everything was still great & fine since travelling solo. Excellent...

My husband had booked the Hideaway Suite for us, and pre-warned the hotel that I was a bit of a tricky vegetarian. On arrival, the lovely lady at reception told us(unprompted) that the chef would give me a couple of cheese-less veggie options for dinner that night. My personalised menu even got delivered by one of the staff to our...

I was suitably impressed with the room we were given, we were able to park right outside which helped with our luggage. The room was very clean, bright and spacious. Upon returning to the hotel we really enjoyed the facilities of being able to watch TV and read glossy magazines in the luxurious yet comfy lounge area which was right...

We visited The White Swan to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We have visited the area before but not stayed in Pickering itself. The Hotel is as central in Pickering that you can get so a very good location, and with a car parking to the rear easily accessible. We were greeted by the friendly receptionist and when our room was...

We had the good fortune to experience the very warmest of welcomes from Amanda and the rest of the team over Christmas, combined with truly excellent service, fabulous food and most comfortable accommodation during our stay. Pickering is a charming North Yorkshire town featuring an eclectic mix of retail shops old and new and the North Yorkshire Railway station, making...

We stayed here for one night a couple of weeks ago and loved it! We stayed in a hideaway room, separated from the main building. The room was very spacious, with a huge comfortable bed. The bathroom was lovely with a great bath and very powerful separate shower. We made use of the bothy which was lovely to relax in....

We plotted and planned to bring a girlfriend to Castle Howard for her birthday. We made the 4-hour drive from Edinburgh to tiny Pickering and our lovely home base at The White Swan. Kudos to Sarah in customer service who helped with every detail in planning. We wanted quiet rooms, no problem, we stayed out of the Inn itself, down...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A warm and friendly Yorkshire welcome awaits you at this proper family run Inn. Next year will be our 30th at The White Swan and we have just about got things organised. From the moment you walk through the doors you'll feel at home. We aim to keep things simple and just let you relax ...Tom Parker Bowles reckons 'Every market town should have a White Swan' and the Daily Telegraph described us as 'God's own Country Pub' on a recent visit. If you read the reviews here you will get a flavour of what we are trying to do. We are an Inn with a lovely restaurant and 2 rosette food but not the plastic fine dining you find in many four star properties. Real food, real people, lovely rooms and great value for money. And by the way if you are not delighted I will give you your money back so long as you tell us at the time.Victor Buchanan - Owner ... more   less
