My wife and I were nearly put off booking by the few poor reviews - particularly those mentioning a problem with flies. I am so glad we booked on the basis of the overwhelming number of positive reviews. From the very first contact - booking by telephone - the staff throughout the hotel were friendly, helpful and professional - just...

Beautiful accommodation (we were in one of the outside apartments). Stone floors, gorgeous bathroom, separate bath and drencher shower. Comfy bed, like a massive marshmallow (but mattress not too soft). Great minibar. Basic tea, coffee, toiletries & hairdryer. Food and service were superb. There was a blip at breakfast on the second day - they forgot our order, we waited...

My husband and I had an overnight stay with another couple of friends. The hotel is close to railway station if you fancy a ride on a steam train. Due to the location of our rooms, we were all kept awake by drinkers in the wine bar next door. We all felt our stay wasnt very good value for money...

We stayed here for 1 night as we were attending a concert a few miles away. We were met at reception by very friendly efficient staff one of whom showed us to our "hideaway" room. On the ground floor was a lounge type room with a huge freestanding bath, also a wet room with his and hers double headed wet...

We stayed two nights here in August 2014. On arrival we were advised that check-in was not until 3pm - no problem as Pickering is a very pleasant little town and a couple of hours are easily passed wandering the shops or castle. We also enjoyed lunch here whilst we waitied - dogs are allowed in the public bar areas,...

Dear Niknak Thank you for your most kind review. Sorry the weather wasn't fantastic this time. When you feel you can stop looking at the scales you should come back (for Christmas at the White Swan maybe - I note your logo on here) I also find it impossible to eat salads in the face of charcoal grilled Ginger Pig...

We booked the White Swan Inn Hotel for our 1st wedding anniversary, we were guided by the beautiful photographs of the rooms on their website. We spoke to someone from the hotel when we rang to enquire about which room we would be booking someone rang us back. We were told their was no photographs of the room on the...

Thank you for your review and I apologise again for the fact that a bra was left in the bottom of one of the cupboards and not spotted by Housekeeping. This was the reason that we immediately sent of bottle of really good champagne to your room with our compliments. I think most people on here would think that a...

We booked the hotel as its close to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Station, our room was roomy with good facilities although there was no safe for valuables. However because of the warm weather the room was unbelievably hot although the hotel had provided an electric fan. we would have opened the windows but for the large number of flies...

I am really sorry to read your review. We have been inundated by cluster flies over the last two weeks and this is not a reflection on the cleanliness of White Swan but on our stunning 'country' location and the time of year. We have taken the following measures to control them: Flyscreens or muslin nets on windows and doors,...

Found the hotel to be very friendly, accommodating and very clean. Very charming. Good food. Stayed 2 nights. Agree with that flies were a problem in the bar area. The staff were attentive and courteous.

This has so many great things going for - its location in a charming Yorkshire town, pleasant staff who are so helpful, well equipped and spacious bedrooms (well, ours was) and good food. And yet. There are also negative things and I'll do them first. A previous reviewer mentioned the flies and s/he wasn't kidding. They are everywhere and the...

Dinner bed and breakfast: Charming staff in a building that certainly looks the part of an old coaching inn. The welcome was warm, the decorations were pleasant and on the surface all looked well. However on second glance it was apparent that the whole place seems to be in need of a fundamental deep cleaning as the floors and the...

I'm deeply troubled by your review. But first things first. It is true that for a period of about ten days we have been plagued by cluster flies. We have gradually done more and more and more to try to eradicate the problem (without making the place look terrible) and fortunately they have now gone as quickly as they arrived....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A warm and friendly Yorkshire welcome awaits you at this proper family run Inn. Next year will be our 30th at The White Swan and we have just about got things organised. From the moment you walk through the doors you'll feel at home. We aim to keep things simple and just let you relax ...Tom Parker Bowles reckons 'Every market town should have a White Swan' and the Daily Telegraph described us as 'God's own Country Pub' on a recent visit. If you read the reviews here you will get a flavour of what we are trying to do. We are an Inn with a lovely restaurant and 2 rosette food but not the plastic fine dining you find in many four star properties. Real food, real people, lovely rooms and great value for money. And by the way if you are not delighted I will give you your money back so long as you tell us at the time.Victor Buchanan - Owner ... more   less
