We spent a great 3 nights at The New Staincliffe. We needed to get away after lockdown and were keen to see the Durham Coast. The New Staincliffe was very reasonable and had a fantastic position overlooking the sea/beach. We had a large bedroom, with sofa and spectacular views over the sea and I would also say that the bed was super-comfortable. The hotel is a very much "work in progress" venue, as they are doing a gradual refurbishment and we felt that the price we paid reflected that. The staff were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. They had a small lite bite menu, which we sampled on 2 occasions outside in the garden in a small marquee with heaters. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay here again for touring around the area.
Fantastic place yes it’s under refurb to a very high standard but work has to be done doesn’t it ! Didn’t interfere with our stay the rooms that have been done are fabulous Paul the proprietor can’t do enough for you This place is a fantastic Victorian building with lots of history worth a visit We will be back hopefully to sit in one of the great refurbed bars for a few !! Stayed for a night in February 2020. Only after booking did i see the multitude of ghost hunting reviews so had no idea of its history. Being into such things myself we enquired as to its history with the paranormal and the staff kindly agreed we go on a mini ghost tour alone before booking in our room. The hotel itself has seen better days, but this isnt a chain hotel. Yes it could be cleaner, the carpets and fixtures and fittings are a tad outdated and dusty in places but what character! Amazing victorian starcases and corridors, creaky floorboards and gothic statues and windows all add to its ambience. Great view of the seafront and sea from the front bedrooms. Comfortable and relatively clean rooms and bathroom. Bed was older than David Attenborough but i had a good nights sleep. They run with a skeleton staff so they were hard to find when booking in/out. If you want a clean basic boring stay then book a budget hotel chain for the night. If you want something a bit more interesting and with character then get yourself to the staincliffe. For £40 what can go wrong...…
I stayed here for one night for a golf tournament. I had booked a twin room with a friend. On arrival we were shown to a double room. When I pointed out the error, it appeared to have been an unclear request via a third agent, but they immediately gave us keys for a second double room, overlooking the sea, and let us have a room each at no extra cost. So in all I was extremely impressed by their customer service. The hotel is a stunning building going under extensive renovation by a new owner. There is a lot of work to be done but our rooms were huge, well appointed, Fantastic views and very comfy. Would definitely return. Exceptional value for money. Also it was so nice to have such friendly staff and great service.
The pictures show a sorry state and Not what was advertised by trip advisor or booking.com.major rip extremely disappointing no breakfast either. Lumpy pillows no mattress protect. Sheets not pressed. Soap for hand washing was tesco own brand not even dressed up. I was so tired I slept.
