If you like dogs then this is a great place to stay; if you don't, probably best to give it a miss. The room was comfortable but the air freshener didn't quite hide the underlying dog fragrance! There was a pair of table lamps beside the bed but there didn't appear to be anywhere to plug them in... So it's... More

Very warm welcome from the staff on a very busy evening. A good and wide selection of meals to choose from. Fish chowder on the specials board was excellent. Gammon on the regular menu was very good too. Portions are vast.

We were staying in a nearby village and found the Roast Ox one lunchtime. Great food with large portions of largely local produce. Also a well kept pint of a local brew. Came back for a couple of meals and the standard and service remained high.

Stayed here for a week whilst working at the Royal Welsh and have eaten here on numerous occasions over the last couple of years. Tony is a brilliant landlord and works his socks off. The food he and the chef produce is wonderful with imaginative Specials on most days, all based on the fresh produce he gets delivered to him.... More

The Roast Ox is set in beautiful surroundings with parking and some outdoor seating provided. Inside it has a proper old pub/restaurant feel to it, although it is mainly a restaurant there is ample room to sit down for drinks if that is what you are looking for. We went for a last minute meal here and although the restaurant... More

Firstly - the food was very good, rooms well let say left a lot to be desired. Stayed for the Royal Welsh - rooms not cleaned or towels changed for 3 days, when clean towels did arrive - that was it no cleaning with exception of the bins being emptied. Couldn't make tea - only milk available was on the... More

I was working in Builth so stayed here for a week. Although the room had the basics it was clean and airy and so country quiet. Waking up to bird song and being fed on top quality food morning noon and night was luxurious. Tony was exceedingly accommodating to our needs which stretched his usual routine.

We received a warm welcome from the staff and our dog was treated to a biscuit. Delicious food from start to finish. There was plenty of home cooked starters, mains and desserts to choose from. Food was served along with real local ales. Never been to this pub before but will add it to the highly recommended list.

We ate here one weekday evening. Welcoming reception from busy and efficient landlord. Good range of straightforward food, with some specials such as homemade Wye Valley asparagus soup. Main courses so generous we struggled to finish - all done to a good standard. Draught beer (perhaps another local beer rather than ubiquitous Doom Bar would be good.) Nice surroundings in... More
