Our B&B is located up on the hill with a wonderful view over the lake. Close by are the Smith Creek mtb area and hiking trails. Wineries, golf courses, beaches are a short drive away. We strive to be a simple place with comfortable beds and a delicious breakfast. We have storage space for expensive equipment (e.G. Bikes) and a pool to refresh and play. Kids, pets and adults are all very welcomed.

When they say simple, that is what they actually mean. There is nothing extravagant about this B and B. The rooms are clean, and they do feed breakfast. However, if you are using this as a restful getaway, book a hotel. You need to get up with the sun, as there are not blinds on the windows, and you are serenaded by the pitter-patter of little feet early in the morning. Not a great place to get away from the kids or for some long overdue rest. Breakfast left a little to be desired. It was tasty, but in scant quantity.

Thank you for your honest review. We do our best to encourage our bookers to inform themselves about our services. On our web page, we encourage people to read the bad reviews (http://www.monkeysbnb.com/we-offer.html) and on every welcoming e-mail we link to that page. It’s neither for us nor for our guests desirable if they misplace themselves. As you mentioned we are simple and lively, that’s how we present ourselves and that’s what we actually mean.

In hindsight we should have looked much closer at the details of this B&B. We were two couples and didn't realise that we had to share a bathroom, something at our age (50's and 60's) we don't really want to do. Added to that there are two very small children in the home and we were woken at 6.15 by the patter of feet directly above and as there are no linings on the curtains the room was very bright. Having said that the bed was very comfortable, the view from the B&B is great and the breakfast was super.

We are working on ideas to make issues like the shared bathroom of Room 1 and 2 clearer to our guests (Room 3 has a private bathroom). Additionally to the description at our webpage and the booking agencies, we lately have added a detailed description of the booked room to our welcoming e-mail. We think that helped a bit, but we want to do more. We want our guest to know that we have kids and there might be other guests with kids and pets and the whole wonderful craziness that comes with them. We embrace it all and that’s why we think our name “Monkeys B&B” describes us to the point. We know that everybody is unique and has different expectations to a B&B. For season 2017 we hope to find a way to inform our guests (even the ones who don’t have time to read all the details) better about who we are. That way people who expect a luxurious and totally quiet stay would give place to others who value a simple and lively place with great effort in sustainability and local foods. There are lots of really wonderful and luxurious B&B in the area. By the way, we invested a lot of time and money to sound-proof the ceilings of all the B&B bedrooms. However, in a wooden house like ours, it’s not possible to get rid of all noises. We are happy that it is a lot better now than before.

We stayed for two days with our two kids (9 and 13) and enjoyed every minute. Breakfast cooked by Trevor with local fruits and eggs, and veggies from their organic garden designed by Anita were delicious and authentic. Their two little boys are the cutest and also highly entertaining. Our kids enjoyed the pool as well as the various fruit picking and tasting activities in the area. We loved our stay and will be coming back for sure.

The view was great but not so anything else, the pool was covered quite early. The room clean, a 12"x36" inch towel in my room for a shared bathroom. One pillow which was quite flat..no reading in my single bed. Breakfast was an egg omelet, no juice, one slice of toast and when I asked for more I was told someone (me??) had stolen the bread. When I asked for a second cup of coffee he asked if I really wanted one as he would have to go upstairs and grind more coffee, and he was quite busy. There were 2 guests.

Thank you for your review, which does not look very good for us, but gives us the chance to explain more about our values. One of our biggest values is sustainability. We made a few decisions to minimize waste. For example to reduce water evaporation and raise the water temperature of the pool, we cover it with a solar cover. We love to see our pool used and like to open it for our guests any time (in season). To reduce wash loads, we decided to have bath towels (26”x48”) instead of bath sheets (35”x60”) and only one pillow per person on the beds. In every room there is extra bedding (including pillows) in the closet that we leave open for guests to see and use. That way we ensure to only wash used bedding. Another value is local and fresh foods: Instead of orange juice we serve fresh fruits and eggs that come from the farms within 5 km from us, all our jams are homemade and the herbs and veggies in the scrambled eggs grow in our garden. Our menu varies according to the season and we can adjust it to various dietary restrictions. Trevor is a bit of a coffee snob, who claims to taste the difference between freshly ground and day old coffee grounds. Therefore, he is taking the time to grind coffee shortly before he is brewing and serving it. He enjoys serving great coffee and just wanted to make sure you were aware of the time it might take in case you were on the run. The bread situation was very unexpected and unfortunate for you and us as well. We now give clearer directions to guests about kitchen and fridge use. Our service is reflected in the fairly low price, especially for the two rooms with a shared bathroom. There is a third room with a private bathroom. We strive to be a simple place to play and enjoy. We love to share our home with people who appreciate our values and therefore thank you for posting your view on our B&B. Kind Regards Anita

This is a real treat! It was really hot when we arrived and we loved cooling off in the pool. Also, it has such a nice view. We could use the barbeque for the evening. A real friendly couple that let you be but if you had a question or wanted to talk you could just ring the bell.
