We spent two nights at this hotel recently and although our room was a little tired it was clean and warm and perfectly adequate. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the food was great, beautifully cooked and presented. The breakfast menu was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. It is in the "dark sky" area and...

Had two nights here. Very good value. Lovely location so handy for visiting the most beautiful part of north east England. We were fortunate with the weather which enhanced our visit. The hotel is a very short walk from the village which has three pubs. so if a walk and a drink is on the agenda then the location is...

10 of us stayed in the self catering apartments attached to the hotel. Used the hotel facilities and each one of us only had positive comments to say. The staff were welcoming and very helpful. The hotel is set in a beautiful location and had lovely walks around. The only disadvantage which is not the hotels fault but only one...

Room 3. Beautiful bright spacious room, large bathroom , views across grounds to the river. Extremely pleasant staff and excellent restaurant food. Concerns over some previous reviews of being "tired" totally unfounded . Our room, dining room, bar and reception area obviously totally recently redecorated. A very good spot to visit surrounding area. Fishing book showed good results at a...

Very good value for money. Really helpful staff especially the chefs who made me the most delicious meals every night despite my food allergies. Thank you. Decor a bit hit and miss in some of the bedrooms/bathrooms but very clean and comfortable.

Stayed in superior room which looked towards the river at the back of the hotel. The room was clean and newly decorated but had french windows so quite hot unless the door was open. Had to shut it at night though, so quite warm. Food and the staff were absolutely excellent. Well worth eating in the restaurant, can highly recommend...

This is our second visit this year as we enjoyed our last visit so much. We were checked in by the same young man as last time and I'm afraid his attitude still lets the hotel down. Basically he just gives you the key and directs you to the room. The rest of the staff are so friendly it is...

Stopped off here on our bike tour of the pennines. This was the first night. Upon Arrival, I thought the place was a bit run down. It is quite an old quirky building and I think it has enjoyed being very successful in the past. We had beers on the terrace, which is very relaxing and very quiet. Our room...
