I love the fact that this is a community run hotel. It is set I beautiful surroundings with fabulous views of Snowdonia from the beer garden.
The staff are friendly and helpful and our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. Just be aware that there is not much pressure for the shower.
The evening menu was small but the food was really well presented, tasty and hot.
We enjoyed sitting in the bar and chatting with the locals. We also went in another room and played pool and used the speaker provided go play our own music😀
Continental breakfast is free, but we paid for a full breakfast, which we ordered the night before.
There are some good walks nearby. We did one to Cynfal Falls.
I definitely recommend this hotel

Nice Double room with comfy bed and plenty of hot water in large shower bathroom.
Friendly staff throughout our stay and also had dinner the first night Scampi Chips and peas. Which was very tasty and very large portions. Food is only served from Wednesday to Sunday so we got a takeaway to bring back on the Monday before we checked out on Tuesday.
Hot drinks were available in our room and could be replaced outside in the hallway.
Only thing we found was our room was never serviced within our stay, although we saw the cleaner every morning as we went down for our breakfast of cereal toast orange juice and tea or coffee included free. A cooked option is offered at extra cost if wanted. We found our TV small but that is only our personal choice
All in all we enjoyed our stay here and would not hesitate in recommending it to others wanting to stay in this area John & Sue Eastbourne UK

My partner and I have just returned from a 3 night stay at this lovely community run hotel. We arrived just after 5pm and followed the directions to ring the mobile number. We were met within 5 minutes by a friendly member of staff, who quickly showed us to our room and made sure we were settled.

The room was cosy and clean, with everything we needed. In terms of the way the hotel is run, it was lovely to be able to come and go as we pleased and mingle with the locals who frequented the bar in the evenings. Everyone we met was super friendly, welcoming and helpful.

Breakfast was simple but filling, a standard continental but plenty of it. One female member of staff in particular who we saw at breakfast most mornings was always cheerful, engaging and happy to help. We were so impressed :)

Overall we had a wonderful stay, and are already talking about booking our return. Thank you!

Charlotte & Robert

The area had beautiful scenery but the building was rundown the sash windows could not be locked open a bit if you opened the catches the top window it did not stay in position till pulled down it was just going to fall down. The interior of the hotel was shabby. I will add photos to give an idea. The toilets did a small flush then you had to wait ages before you could flush again so 2 people in a room meant it was horrendously inconvenient. It was not just in one room, other people said the same, people reported it but nobody at the hotel did anything about the issue to any rooms affected as far as we knew. The dining room was not very inviting the toasters were slow and any cooked breakfast was an extra charge, from the included cereal toast orange juice tea coffee. 1 morning the person on tea coffee making was not to hand but outside the dining room on a laptop, ignoring people who walked into the dining room even when we were all saying loudly how do we get tea and coffee. She once someone went to her and asked if she knew said I'll make it.

Response from Pengwern Cymunedol, Owner at Y Pengwern
Responded Aug 23, 2022
Hello, and thank you for your feedback. We're sorry that there were some issues with your stay. We are a non-profit community venture and we invest the proceeds of the business into the renovation of the building. Work has now started on the frontage and all windows will be either restored or replaced. The interior will follow in due course. We pride ourselves on our friendly, welcoming atmosphere, and I am very sorry if you felt I ignored you one morning. I did have a colleague on tea and coffee making duties and she would have attended you within a few minutes. I am of course available to help as needed when things get busy. We did listen to your concerns about the toilet flush and sent someone to inspect it that same day but it could not be fixed straight away unfortunately. If you come back to the area we would love the opportunity to make it up to you. All the best, Selene

We were allocated Room 10 which was situated above the bar area. The locals in the bar played their guitar and sang very loudly until 11.20pm. They may as well have been in our room. At just after 10pm my husband went down to ask when the live music was going to stop. He was told they couldn't stop the locals from playing but they would try after 11pm. At 11.20, they were stll playing and singing so I went down, to be told they were just finishing up. Then at 11.30pm the fire alarm went off because someone was smoking. So no sleep for us until after midnight! Why put paying guests in rooms over the bar if they won't be able to sleep until the bar shuts at midnight? Terrible nights sleep impacted on my next day and my 5 hour drive home.

A beautiful find with friendly locals, lovely bar with a wood burning stove and cosy rooms. Very dog friendly, decent continental breakfast included makes this even better value for money. Adore the fact this is run by the community, helping to preserve if for everybody rather than some rich shareholder or pub-by-numbers chain. Great team, friendly locals - we will be back.

Very friendly and clean with a great bar! Although there isn't currently an open kitchen the breakfast was still varied, healthy and filling. This is a community run hotel so all proceeds are going on keeping the facility going and employing local people. Being an old coaching Inn the decor is a bit old fashioned but so much nicer than a chain. Will certainly be back - and Welsh should be added to the list of languages spoken

We held a family gathering here after attending a family funeral and we were also booked in for 3 nights . The staff were very friendly and accommodating . The food was excellent and fantastic value for money . The atmosphere is very homely and relaxing . We enjoyed sitting out in the sunshine in the beer garden.
The bedrooms were spacious and clean . Just remember to take your own hairdryer . There is a mirror in the bathroom but not one in the bedroom we were in.
The bar in the evening again is very welcoming and we were delighted that the local singers were there and encouraging a sing along
This is a lovely hotel which is perfect for anyone visiting the local area and it’s great that it’s being run for the benefit of the community while offering great experience and welcome to visitors .
Thank you for making our visit very memorable

Very welcoming staff and very fun pub! Perfect location for exploring the local towns and going to Snowdon.
Also breakfast was tailored to our needs with a few of us being vegan and gluten free (so thank you very much for that!)
100% would stay here again.
Thank you so much for a lovely stay!

We stayed for 1 night whilst exploring the local area. After an exhausting day cycling the epic Welsh hills we arrived. The outside is a little sad looking but it is being refurbished! The room was clean and comfy and more than adequate for what we needed.
The food in the bar was really great value for money and yummy. The drinks are also very reasonably priced.
We enjoyed the community atmosphere and the choir singing in the bar!
Breakfast was good quality continental - cereal, toast, Juice and hot drinks - just enough for what we needed.
We would most definitely stay here again in the future!

Hi, I'm sorry but I haven't checked this site for months. But to answer the questions: We are a dog friendly establishment and well behaved dogs are more than welcome at no extra charge. We have two family rooms with one double and one single bed, we can also provide a cot in all rooms at no extra charge. We do not currently offer a cooked breakfast. Included in the room rate is a continental style breakfast with fruit juice, cereals, fresh fruits, yogurts, toast with a choice of spreads, cheese and ham and as much tea or coffee as you want.
