5/5 Absolutely gorgeous setting, location, amnemities and service. The Island retreat is right on the ocean, with stunning views and direct access to its private beach (facing east with amazing sunrises)
It's the ultimate getaway with health and wellness activities and services. Beach, pool, gym, massage therapy, yoga classes, and most importantly a fantastic fresh menu and full bar with the ocean as a backdrop.
The beautiful, comfortable, clean, stylish, breezy and renovated rooms have crisp linens and strong wifi signal.
The owner Sheri is a remarkable host. Helpful, attentive and charming. She's informative and knows all the great spots and activities on the island, and will help you navigate its interest points. She's all around cool and her staff is competent and professional.
The Island Retreat is located on Elbow Cay where the delightful and magnetic settlement of Hope Town bubbles with activities.
I strongly recommend the Island retreat. The premises and views blew my mind and are forever engraved in my memories. I will definitely be back.

Absolutely LOVE The Island Retreat! This was our 3rd or 4th stay here but this time we brought 15 friends! Everyone loved their own separate accommodations, the ease of ordering food or drinks when needed, and the views! The staff was always accommodating whenever we needed anything. We can’t wait to come back!

We had such an amazing time. We now consider Island Retreat to be our home away from home, and for Sheri to be part of our family. She’s super friendly and attentive, and the location is probably the best on the island. The sandy beach is at your doorstep, and close enough to everything you will want to do. We will definitely be back.

The location and property are gorgeous. You essentially have a private beach all to yourselves right in front of you. If you're lucky, you'll have the entire villa (largely) to yourselves too. The staff that were there (particularly Leisha) were great and incredibly helpful. The on-site "restaurant" (i.e., Leisha) cooked us up some great food too that was actually better than what we ate at Abaco Inn or Firefly.
However, despite the decription on the website, this is not a "hotel" in the general sense of the word. There is no housekeeping to make up your room daily, no proper reception etc. It's more akin to an AirBnB. Additionally, there are some glaring flaws in maintenance. Our room didn't have a proper front door, merely a flimsy balcony door that could not be locked from the inside. The floor was very damaged in some places and also not 100% clean. The walls were crumbling in multiple places and the lamp had no lampshade. The shower also seemed hastily put together with the door not fully fitting. The hot tub also did not appear to work. Multiple appliances outside appeared disused and rusted due to saltwater.
If you want to have a private stay and don't mind the smaller issues, go for it (if you get a reasonable price). But don't be misled by the website.

Thank you for staying with us at the island retreat. We are a family run operation on a beautiful remote island. We are available to assist you throughout your entire visit because (I always say) when - not if - something goes wrong we can always fix it. You visited an island that still does not have reliable energy post Dorian - not Club Med. If the beauty of the sunrise over the ocean does not offset the inevitable erosion of outdoor steel appliances- you might want to consider a location that is not oceanfront. I see you also rated an institution- the Abaco Inn 2 stars. As an anonymous armchair travel critic - Loïc Stucki please do your research before leaving Europe next time. 🛶

We had a great stay the last week of May. Chris and Leisha were the BEST! Perfect location, very private and well maintained. The pool and bar were perfect for our needs and the food was delicious. Lovely pool with beach access, great and attentive staff, there was another small group there but we in no way felt on top of each other. Perfect for our birthday trip in a group of seven for four nights! Easy to get around the island with rented golf carts.
