We stayed here on our cycling tour of Bordeaux. St Macaire is a hidden gem. A walled medieval town like St Emilion but without the tourists. This does mean there are fewer amenities so we ate (very well) in the hotel restaurant

Quite hotel in a little town in Sauterne area. Proprietor assisted us with directions to a local winery where we are able to taste some Sauternes. Our room was large, cool ( it was 38degrees when we arrived) with a bathroom which had both a bath and a shower. We needed to cool the bottle of Sauterne before we could... More

Stayed one night in May when over for a relative's wedding. Very impressed with the hotel, received a very warm welcome and the whole place has been very tastefully modernised while keeping all the charm of the old building. Food in the restaurant was excellent.

Stayed here on second night of cycling holiday. A definite step up from previous night. Hotel is cute and attached to local creperie and restaurant. Building dates back over 300 years but nicely refurbished. Although almost a bed and breakfast the hosts are welcoming. There is a small jacuzzi! Good after a hard day's cycling. Rooms are on two floors... More

We stayed here for 2 nights on a cycling holiday - it is a lovely hotel in a medieval town, which has been renovated recently. The room we had (12) was very comfortable and clean, and there is a small swimming pool with a jacuzzi on the first floor. Breakfasts were served downstairs, in an area which also serves as... More

On the way to the Pyrenees we were recommend this great hotel, being half way from st malo. Quirky rooms in an old building is always good if done well. Room 11 has a great bathroom. Restaurant excellent-freshest of oysters followed by steak tartare with tasty additions. Careful where you park though if you have a uk/ German car. Some... More

Stayed overnight here as part of a bicycle tour and thought this was the nicest hotel of the trip. The hotel is in a great location inside the old city gates. Our room was spacious and clean and the breakfast buffet fresh and plentiful. We also ate in Le Pampaillet restaurant which is the hotel's restaurant and enjoyed a very... More

We stayed here as a one night stop on a 1 week bike tour through the wine region of Bordeaux. It is situated within the walls of the old town. Newly renovated, the room was spacious, comfortable & charming. They have an indoor spa which is a welcome treat after a hard day of riding. The hotel has it's own... More

We only had the opportunity to stay at Saint Macaire for one night as part of a self guided cycle trip. Les Feuilles d'Acanthe was a lovely surprise. The hotel is located in the medieval old part of the town, in a renovated old mansion. The bathrooms are all new, while the rooms still feature the old stonewalls. Finding it's way inside can be a bit confusing first. Did not try the jacuzzi, but the restaurant was fine, with local, freshly cooked specialties.

Thank riehen
