Close to the famous wine village St Emilion, 20 miles from Bordeaux, an old barony has been transformed to become guest house of Domaine de Bel Air Carpe Diem. This building, dated back to 1782, with its wine store house, will welcome you in one of its bedrooms and its exceptional vineyard environment. The Domaine perfectly combines intimacy, comfort and a natural class perfectly combining history with natural beauty and modern comfort. An absolute haven of peace of mind, nearby the vineyards of Pomerol, Cote de Blaye, Sauternes and Cots de Castillion. In the center of this Domaine you will find a characteristic courtyard with a centuries-old chestnut tree, fruit trees, completed by an immense prairie. Our heated pool with view of the vineyards greet you from May to October for moments of relaxation. Fallen for the charms of old stones, we wanted to create a welcome and an art of living reflecting our personality.

Recently stayed here and had the pleasure of meeting the owners, Jean and his family make your stay that little bit more special than you already feel in their wonderful establishment. A welcome glass of the neighbouring vineyards chilled wine was lovely after a long drive. Breakfast is a fresh and lovey presented experience with fresh produce
We look forward to returning here again

Remiette & Mehmet were simply the most warm and enthusiastic hosts we have ever experienced! They greeted us as we arrived with smiles and generous offers to help with dinner selections, reservations, and whatever we might need to make our stay a joy. Their B&B is updated, and the furnishings are especially fine quality and comfortable. We cannot say enough about the warm atmosphere of the home and the extensive grounds. The pool is privately nestled in the corner of their property and there is a working farm next door, where we observed them baling hay as we sat by the poolside. The breakfast was perfect with farm fresh eggs from the farm next door, fresh pastries each morning and the incredible French cheeses and yogurts along with melon and prosciutto. What's not to love, right? We should also mention that this lovely home is located in the heart of the wine country, 15 minutes from St. Emilion and 5 minutes from Branne where we dined at "caffe cuisine" recommended by our hosts, it was our favorite meal of our month long trip to France. We highly recommend a stay at Domaine de Bel Air Carpe Diem, our 3 nights were not enough. Thank-you to Remiette & Mehmet for opening your lovely home, we cherish the memories and we hope to return.

We had a wonderful stay at Domaine de Bel Air Carpe Diem and highly recommend it to anyone traveling in that area. Isabelle is the nicest and warmest host you will ever encounter. She made us feel very welcome from the start and provided us with helpful information on things to do in the area. The rooms are luxuriously furnished and very comfortable, with lovely attention to detail. The breakfast each morning was also a treat -- we feasted on freshly baked breads and pastries and other delicious foods.
I cannot emphasize Isabelle's wonderful hospitality. Even after we left, she was still very thoughtful and attentive. We accidentally left some recently purchased wine in our room, and Isabelle graciously sent it to us. This is the best place to stay in the area!

I hate to be the one to give the negative review, but the emotions in the title of this review are exactly what I experienced during my stay at Domaine de Bel Air Carpe Diem. Perhaps my experience is a text book example of the challenges of cross-cultural communication, but I suspect that it’s more a reflection of the bad manners and lack of discretion of the owners and hosts of this property.
My in-laws, my husband and I had just finished a wonderful day in Bordeaux. My father-in-law is French and although he has been living in the United States for many years, he communicates perfectly with everyone. We travelled to France principally to visit family and were excited to have dinner with my cousin-in-law and his new girlfriend at their home in a small town outside of Bordeaux before spending the night at the Domaine de Bel Air Carpe Diem. My cousin got stuck in the notorious traffic outside of Bordeaux and was thus late for dinner. When I found out that he was running late I immediately called the proprietor and let her know that we would be checking in late. Although my French is poor, I understand quite a bit. During my conversation it was established that we would arrive most likely around 10, but I was not sure how long dinner would take, so I would call her when we departed. Dinner took much longer than I expected and we did not depart my cousin’s home until 11:30 pm. As soon as we pulled out of my cousin’s driveway I called the Domaine de Bel Air Carpe Diem. I gave the phone to my father-in-law, the native French speaker so that he could apologize for being late and explain that we were on our way.
Now, I accept full responsibility for arriving late and understand that people can’t just wait around for me. I’ve stayed at many bed and breakfasts and whenever my check-in is not convenient for the hosts, they will offer to leave a key, or email me directions as to how to enter the room. This was not the case at Domaine de Bel Air Carpe Diem, so I thought all was good. Apparently not. Never in my wildest dreams could I anticipate what we were about to encounter from our “hosts.”
Upon picking up the phone, my father-in-law was “greeted” by the “gentleman” of the house who immediately began screaming at him and insulting him in French. It was so graphic and insulting that my father-in-law passed me the phone and said that he refused to speak with them anymore! I could hear what was being said and this guy was just plain nasty. I picked up the phone and immediately started to apologize, but he went at me in French. “You (expletive) Americans think that you can do whatever you want whenever you want. When you get here the gates will be locked and you won’t be allowed in!” He said other truly inappropriate things that I won’t repeat here, but use your imagination. I was so embarrassed. Of all the places to stay this is where I was taking my in-laws? A place were they would be verbally assaulted!?!
I had no idea whether or not we should proceed to the Domaine de Bel Air Carpe Diem or turn around and find a random place to stay in Bordeaux. It was now 11:45 pm, my father-in-law was pissed, and we were in the middle of nowhere France. I decided to chance it and proceed to the Domaine de Bel Air Carpe Diem. When we got there, the outside gate was in fact locked. My husband and I used the call box to phone the owners. They erupted from their home and “greeted” us at the gate screaming at the top of their lungs. All I could do was apologize and try and explain the best that I could in my limited French that we were sorry for arriving late. But, they would not relent and for about 10 minutes they just went at me and my husband. It was a full on verbal assault from these people. And it was nasty! “THIS is NOT a hotel- you can’t arrive and leave whenever you want.” “What would you do if this was your home? Would you let people LIKE YOU in?” “In our 20 years of managing this property THIS has never happened!” I was so upset. Why was I being treated like this? Just for arriving late?
We honestly were unsure whether or not we were welcome- and frankly, if there had been another place in the area to stay we would have left. So we asked them “Are we welcome here, or do you want us to go elsewhere?” Then they exploded and screamed at us “You’re just as BAD as the RUSSIANS! They’re the only ones that do this to us. Now you’re going to leave, after all of this?!” Now I was insulted. Apparently you don’t like Americans OR Russians. Glad you’re in the tourism industry. Seems like a good fit for people like you.
For the 20th time I apologized. And they carried on and on and on. I felt like a child being scolded by my parents! It was so terrible that I almost started to cry. Later that evening my husband told me that it reminded him of being disciplined by his French grandfather when he was a child.
Finally after we endured their attack for about 15 minutes they told us that we were welcome and that we would forget all about what had happened. Would we? Is this the way you treat your guests? It’s as if we stormed the castle and killed the king! We were late. We called you and told you we’d be late. Then, just like we said, we arrived late. And you attack us? You own an inn for crying out loud! And not to mention, we’re paying you.
They showed us to our rooms, which were indeed beautiful, but the experience was ruined. I was so worked up I couldn’t even sleep!
The next morning it was as if nothing had happened. They severed us breakfast, we packed our bags, paid the bill and left. At breakfast, the innkeeper asked us a few questions in English. My father-in-law answered in perfect French. I will never forget the look on her face. “You’re French” she questioned in French. “Yes I am” my father-in-law replied proudly. She looked mortified. She must have realized that he understood EVERY nasty, insulting and inappropriate thing that she and her husband said to us. Well, Isabelle, I guess the joke is on you. Enjoy this review which will live on the internet in perpetuity.
Our experience in the Bordeaux region was totally ruined by these people. It's hard for me to believe that of the 135+ reviews of this place I'm the only one leaving a bad one. I guess everyone is entitled to a bad day...or maybe I'm a bad guest. But all I did was check in late. And I called in advance!
There are many lovely places to stay in this area. There’s no need to waste your time here, especially if you’re American…or apparently Russian. Spare yourself the heartache and just stay somewhere else.

Response from Domaine d, Owner at Domaine de Bel Air Carpe Diem
Responded May 28, 2014
" VOLTAIRE The note reflects very well the bad state of mind of those people. Hearing at 8:oo pm that the arrival will be postponed to 10:00 pm and without any news untill 11:45 pm, that is clear that those people got an unpleasant remark when they finally arrived at 00:30 am. Understanding their explanations were a matter of bad faith, they avoided carefully to let us know they were fluent in french (3 of them were french). Their behaviour the day after for breakfast when they boasted in french and english about the fact that they laughed at us, shocked the other australian and french guests present in the breakfast room. None of our previous french or foreign guests complained of having been bad received for the 3 years activity of Bel Air Carpe Diem. Some ill-mannered people won't succeed in making others believe that Russians or Americans are not welcome at Bel Air's. More than 130 opinions expressing their unanimous satisfaction can testify of it. "Lie, lie, something will always remain" VOLTAIRE.

This is definitely my favourite place in France. Tizac-de-Curton is approximately 20km from Bordeaux. The property is quiet and rekaxing. Isabelle has excellent advice on places to visit and restaurants. We had a fantastic gourmand dinner with wine pairing consisting of home-made local dishes and wine skilfully chosen by Isabelle (who is also a somellier). We enjoyed the dinner by candle light in their beautiful garden. The accommodation was spacious and spotless. Isabelle, thank you for being a fantastic hostess!

Amazing place and amazing Isabelle - so friendly, heartful and welcoming. The dinner on Friday was so delicious and very well presented. The vine from the chateaux next door is very tasty. The breakfast is also very good - with freshly baked muffins - mmm.... And what a lovely dogs - Fango and Askan - we could have played with them all days long :) Would definitely stay here if in the region again!

We planned a last-minute escape from a dreary English February and were looking for somewhere relaxing, comfortable and welcoming. Having read the online reviews we had high hopes, and these were met and exceeded in all respects. Isabelle, the hostess, is an absolute star, with a very warm welcome and is full of excellent recommendations for trips and days out. The location is perfect for exploring Bordeaux and its wine regions as well as the western Dordogne. The accommodation itself is spotlessly clean, full of character and extremely comfortable. We would have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation to friends and family.

My husband and I stayed here for 7 nights in July - out first visit to the area and Bel Air Carpe Diem. It certainly will not be our last. You are made to feel extremely welcome here by the hostess Isabelle who goes out if her way to make you feel welcome. Every morning she would present us with a wonderful breakfast - from Homemade jam to her Muffins and clafloutis. All wonderful. The service here is personalised with Isabelle providing us with many wonderful ideas of what to do in the region for the week. The rooms are beautiful and have outside space to enjoy a glass of wine. The pool is also first class. Would not hestitate to return and would recommend you book this guest house - it's simply wonderful!

The property is georgeous and the room was extremely large and spotless. Due to the lovely host Isabelle, who lives for her B&B and the guests, there is a homely atmosphere and you feel right at home. She is always around with tips and suggestions and loves pampering her guests with treats. Breakfast is nice with a homemade surprise every morning prepared by Isabelle. As she was a sommelier in her previous life, she knows all the best wine properties to visit and she can even organize wine tastings on site. Unfortunately we had no time to taste Isabelle's gourmandises so be sure to book these in advance! We did not want to leave!
