Sun Gardens Dubrovnik provides an inviting atmosphere that has captivated many guests, who often cite the hotel's luxurious touches and comprehensive amenities. Its beachfront location offers stunning views, though the distance from the city center may be a drawback for some. While the hotel is celebrated for its spacious and clean rooms, the decor might seem outdated to a few.
Guests have lauded the range of facilities, like the pools and spa, but advise that food and additional services can be costly. The service, particularly at breakfast and the concierge, is frequently commended, despite occasional mixed feedback regarding the reception.

The Sun Gardens is an expensive resort, perfectly positioned for stunning views over the bay and relatively easy access to Dubrovnik old town. The surrounding areas are picturesque so it holds a prestigious position which I couldn’t fault. The beach is pebbles so you need swim shoes - water is crystal clear if you want to venture in. We took transfers into the old town a few times which can be arranged by the on site travel agency ( excellent service but really expensive!),
Its very family friendly with lots of activities - my son (age 13) attended the soccer academy and had a great time and there are two pools catering for families (the 3rd being adults only, it looked rather soulless so we didn’t feel we were missing out). Beds don’t seem to be a problem and usually you can get some still at 10am which was good.
Overall I would recommend but I would caution this isn’t high 5 star based on staying in other hotels. The service at the sunset pool was hit and miss which was a shame, they seem to prioritise the QR orders and not anyone waiting at the bar which wasn’t great. Also I think some of the resort is a little tired (the sun beds in our terrace areas were broken which was poor). The 2 bed family room is spacious but not overly luxurious and again getting a little tired.
Food is outrageously expensive here, you are a captive market and they are making the most of this so you need to be mindful of this when budgeting this holiday. Having said that the service at all of restaurants was fantastic the staff there really know what they are doing. The food was delicious with the exception of the sunset pool which we ended up avoiding and choosing other options.
Overall I would recommend for families but be prepared to overpay while you are here. Additionally, I think they need to ensure they keep up standards otherwise I don’t think this will be a 5 star luxury in the next few years.

Dear Claire T, Thank you most kindly for your valuable and detailed feedback. We are so happy to read that we had been able to create a nice holiday experience for you at Sun Gardens Dubrovnik. We are all so glad to see that overall, you have enjoyed your stay with us. Since the highest level of service is our top priority, I feel saddened for not finding the service at the Sunset pool on expected level and in line with other employees in the hotel. I will discuss your comment with the heads of department in order to avoid similar mishaps in the future. Thank you for pointing areas for the improvement as your comments are briefly noted and will be use for future actions of the resort upgrade. I am happy to hear you were impressed with the unique resort location and you have enjoyed yourselves in crystal-clear Adriatic sea. I sincerely hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you again and hopefully assure you that the service and overall experience still is on a 5 star level. Absolutely beautiful property, great staff, wonderful facilities. Entertainment is a plus. Sports center is great. They were even accommodating when it came to heating up some special meals that we brought with us as we keep a kosher diet. Have just a couple of complaints— 1. Spa is open to hotel guests to use which is amazing- they did not tell us this at check in. This is not typical in the states and since they shared so much random info at check-in, including this as well would be helpful. Also, the hot tub in the spa was doing some sort of cycle all day Saturday where it was not hot and supposedly they do this every Weds and sat. Was a bummer. 2. Curtains in the deluxe room — cannot speak for others— were not blackout and it was very bright from about 5am. Bring a sleep mask. 3. Pillows were horrible. We didn’t ask for new ones so that’s on us. 4. Pools are all cold.
I would highly recommend this hotel if you want more of a resort experience in Dubrovnik out of the city. The property is huge, there is so much to do, and we were so glad to have spent 3 nights there out of the hustle of Old Town.

Dear Jene618, Thank you most kindly for visiting us and for taking the time to share your nice comment on the TripAdvisor. We are delighted to hear you had a wonderful experience at Sun Gardens Dubrovnik. It was our great pleasure to meet your special requirements related to food. Thank you for pointing out less enjoyable aspects of your stay. Considering the fact that we share all details about the resort through our resort app, internal marketing and TV information system, I feel very sorry if you were misinformed about the SPA concept. In addition, I feel saddened for not letting us know about pillow options as we do have pillow selection available. It was nice to read that despite few drawbacks you had really nice stay, and we certainly hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again when we will make everything to make your stay impeccable. Wow!!!! What an absolutely fantastic stay at Sun Gardens. The staff are so incredibly friendly and welcoming. The resort is large with 5 pools and a really nice beach! (Mind you it’s not sand). The water is clear blue and there are two piers for jumping and diving. The restaurants are well run (though a bit pricey), breakfast is huge with cooking stations and everything you might want. The Club Lounge is a very nice touch and you are welcome to get drinks or snacks at your leisure. The sports complex is really big and offers two fitness centres and racquet courts, smoothie bar, video games… on and on and on. It’s endless. The spa was nice, although I found it a little difficult to figure out the baths. (Again, it’s very large!). There were baths, steam rooms, saunas, and very nice day beds inside and out.
The service at this resort is what really stood out. The staff were always waiting to assist you. The word “no”, doesn’t exist here. Whatever you need or want, they are there within seconds to bring it for you. I had a very small issue, was solved and dealt with professionally.
The housekeeping service was outstanding.
Thank you Ana and Andriana, and all of the amazing staff at Sun Gardens. I wish I could stay longer!

This resort has beautiful facilities, a brilliant activity program for both adults and children, and a lovely location (as long as you are happy being a 20-minute taxi ride from the old town, which we were). We stayed in a luxury 2-bed sea view residence. I would highly recommend this room for a family who want a good amount of space and a lovely big balcony. The resort has the potential to be a memorable 5-star experience, but the service we received was disappointing and fell short of the standard expected at this price point.
Most concerning was an incident where both of my children cut their feet multiple times while playing in the Lemonia pool. Despite reporting this to staff on two occasions, they were disinterested and no investigation or action was taken, which is unacceptable for pool safety at any resort.
At check-in, we were greeted by a stern staff member who made us feel unwelcome. We received no welcome drink which we have happily come to expect at this level or resort, and after waiting 15 minutes for help with our luggage, we had to request assistance again.
One staff member at breakfast was particularly unpleasant, and our requests for a high chair and drinks were frequently ignored.
While our room was lovely and spacious, it was also quite clinical and lacked personal touches like a welcome message or turndown chocolates, which are typically expected in a 5-star resort.
The food here and restaurant choices are good. However they are also all expensive and because the resort is quite isolated you don't have other easy options. Ensure you budget in a large amount for food and drink.
Overall, the lack of attention to detail and poor service significantly detracted from our stay. If this was greatly improved we wouldn't hesitate to recommend, but sadly as it stands we wont be returning to this beautiful location or advising others to do so.

Dear sarahwF2824CB, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I am truly sorry to hear that your stay did not meet the high standards we strive for and which majority of our reviews proves. I appreciate your positive comments regarding the beautiful location and the spacious luxury residence. However, I must sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered with service, particularly regarding the safety incident at the Lemonia pool. The safety and wellbeing of all our guests, especially children, is our top priority, and it is concerning to hear that your reports were not handled properly. As we have detailed standard operating procedures for these situations, I assure you that we will investigate this matter to ensure it does not happen again. I am also sorry to learn about your check-in experience and the lack of attention during breakfast. Your feedback regarding the staff attitude is important, and we will address it with our team to improve our guest interactions and ensure everyone feels welcomed from the moment they arrive. Importance of the service friendliness and attitude with the result of the highest customer satisfaction is our top priority. Thank you for your valuable feedback. We are committed to improving our services and facilities, and I hope you may reconsider visiting us in the future. Your satisfaction is important to us, and we would welcome the opportunity to demonstrate the true level of service that Sun Gardens Dubrovnik usually is known for. Big and modern Hotel in a beautiful region, about 40 min. from Dubrovinik by car. The hotel organizes transfers from/to the airport (at an extra cost) and also excursions to other parts of the region by boat or by van. Jet Ski or car rental are also possible at the hotel. It has 3 different pools (1 just for adults) and access to the beach. The rooms are beautifully decorated, very modern and clean and the views of the ocean are breathtaking. Breakfast is also good. Dinner is overpriced and you can eat better in the cities of Ston, Cavtat or Zaton (the 2 first are REALLY worthy a visit, so rent a car and explore around). What I missed a little bit was the "friendly culture" overall. This should be something that the employees should be trained for: be ALWAYS friendly, always greet the guests with a smile in their faces, a 5 star hotel is also 5 stars because of its team and at the hotel I did not feel always welcome. In the hotel Bar, at the restaurant for breakfast and at the pool and Spa all staff members were very nice and friendly, also the cleaning ladies were friendly and would always greet us with a smile. In the reception unfortunately you sometimes come out of the lift in the morning and some workers are talking to each other or with their mobiles in their hands 😱 They watch you and go back to what they are doing without saying a word. But in general we are happy and satisfied with our stay, we even got an earlier check in (at 11 am, although check-in is just at 4pm, thank you so much!) and a small welcome gift from the concierge. Another small suggestion: the carpets on the hallways are really old fashion and do not match to the modern style of the hotel, they should be replaced ASAP by wood floors(like in the rooms), for example. Bring water shoes: the amazing beaches in the region are not sandy beaches and have lotsssss of stones, also the private beach at the hotel.

Booked a last minute short break at Sun Gardens to catch some autumn sunshine. Stayed in a 2 bed sea view apartment - stunning views, plenty of space, good quality furniture. Peaceful location with a good size balcony with loungers and table/chairs.
Spa included with stay - sauna, steam room, heated relaxation beds, jacuzzi/hydrotherapy pool. Strawberry daiquiris were delicious 😃 Boat trips from their own marina - well worth it, highlight of our trip and so easy just wandering down to the marina.
About a 30 min taxi from the Old Town - didn’t take too long in October but imagine it could take a while in the summer when there is more traffic.
Location was quite remote, only a small bakery in walking distance and seemed a fair way to any super markets or shops. We bought some supplies at the resort shop - very expensive and not much to choose from but as it was end of the season they may well have been winding down stock.
We ate in veranda and the pasta restaurant both were very good quality meals and we enjoyed them - expensive though and as it’s far from anywhere else you’re limited on other options.
We were looking for a quiet sunny break so it suited us for a few days. There were sport options for those who wanted to play tennis, squash or have a kick about. All staff seemed friendly and helpful. Not much to do in the evening and the bar was deserted but again likely just due to it being end of season.

I couldn't rate 5 star, although excellent i didn't think it quite reached 5 due to some housekeeping and cleaning issues. The Hotel is part of Leading Hotels, i think maybe they just need to up their game slightly. Extremely friendly welcome at reception, always helpful. Bar staff very friendly too and pool staff. Room nice with balcony on second floor. Food at restaurants expensive, but again found this to be the case of most restaurants in Dubrovnik and speaking to other people they were of the same opinion a meal for two ranged between 100-150 euros and i don't drink alcohol! Quality of food good, pasta restaurant best value. Pool food not great. Spa very nice, ideal on a rainy day. The hotel bus transfer was 8 euro pp each way, I feel this should really be a free service due to location of the hotel out of town and for 5 stars. My moans: The cups in our room were not cleaned, coffee was not always replenished so i had to call for more to be bought to the room. The balcony was not cleaned, table left dirty. I trod on a wine glass in the swimming pool luckily I think it was plastic I handed it into pool bar, stones/dirt in pool, area around pool not particularly clean either. The usual people putting towels on sunbeds and not turning up till Lunch time, should not be allowed. Coffee machines at breakfast broke most mornings, creating large queue for coffee. Overall good holiday, large hotel, Friendly.

The hotel area is very spacious and well divided into several areas. Various pools, a beautifully developed beach area with plenty of sunbeds and freshwater showers, SPA and fitness area and several restaurants - there is really something for everyone. Breakfast is served in 2 areas, so you never get the feeling that too many people are lining up at the buffet - the quality of the food was above average and the choice of food offered is absolutely sufficient. Only the coffee did not convince particularly, especially if you like to drink double espresso.:)
We had dinner once and again everything was top, quality of food, service, location overlooking the sea.
The hotel is also super suitable for children, with plenty of entertainment options, kids club and own kids area. Those who prefer to enjoy some peace and quiet - there is also an Adults Only Zone!
The rooms are very modern and extremely clean. we had received the luck and an upgrade to a suite - that was really fantastic (thanks a lot!). The staff is very friendly and always eager to meet the wishes of guests.
As for the location, the hotel is about 15-20 min from the old town of Dubrovnik, depending on the time of day the traffic is sometimes less. Since we only stayed one night, we unfortunately did not have the opportunity to explore very much. However, we noticed a very competent concierge service who is there to help plan all the excursions and Things to do.
Conclusion: great place, we would come back.

Beautiful resort with excellent views and landscaping. Restaurants are lovely but expensive so we got the shuttle or an Uber into the old town most nights which took about 30mins. We also indulged in the speedboat from the resort on 2 nights with was €30 per person one way- the best way to do it!. €20 for shuttle for 2 of us and €20 for Uber. Breakfast buffet was busy as not enough staff so we had to wait for tables to be cleaned. We also had a bad smell in our room and a broken window so when I complained Mia, the Quality Manager, moved us and upgraded us to club so we could have breakfast on the rooftop which was then most definitely a 5 star experience. She was excellent and could not do enough for us. Staff are all excellent. Despite drinks and food being expensive it was a Lovely stay in beautiful location and would definitely recommend for a relaxing vacation.

We have been coming to this resort as a family for nearly 12 years. Whilst it is a big resort, there a number of pools and it never feels too overcrowded. There is, an indoor pool, 2outdoor pools and an adults only pool. The beach area has pebbles and is man made bit still pretty - take some beach shoes and enjoy jumping off the pier! Apart froma select few, you don't often find people reserving sunbeds which is good.
You are in the middle of nowhere so a car is recommended, especially to sight see and to go to cheaper places to eat. Now this resort used to be pretty reasonable but if is sadly now incredibly expensive and the food is average. Lunch at the pool for a family of 4 was 109Euros without drinks. There is a shop onsite, but again it had becoming ridiculously expensive. Also the kids menu is limited as is a decent vegetarian dinner. An example of prices: ice cream (8Euros) / soft drinks (7Euros) / fries (8Euros) / burger (26 Euro) / pizza (FROM 15 Euro) ... and that just the basics, steak/ fish etc for dinner start from around 35-40Euro.
In terms of things to do, the entertainment team is lovely and our kids enjoyed the kids club -note there are 2 kids clubs. The hotel one is free, the Marco Polo one you have to pay for. It's not entirely clear so is a bit frustrating and seems to change each year.
Whilst the location and resort itself is beautiful, the rooms are a bit tired - not luxury, but functional We had ants and complained - eventually got moved and free breakfast for our stay. Breakfast is ok, nothing special and i certainly wouldn't pay for it.
Lots of boat tours to do - the hotel runs a boat to neighbouring Lopud island which is lovely to visit for the day and to the old town. If you have a car, visit Ston and also the inflatable Wibit waterpark 20 mins up the road (14 Euros for 1 hour, or 16Eurofor 2 hours ... all day options also available). There's also a fun pirate show boat tour at sunset from the old town ... it used to be reasonable but think that may now be expensive.
We continue to visit because it's a safe option and we know what we're getting, but I wonder if eventually we'll get sick of overpriced food, drinks and accommodation when you consider what you actually get, let's see. But if you're inclined to visit I'd say rent a car and stay here - perhaps in a residence if you're happy to cook a bit yourself.
