We had a wonderful stay with William and his beautiful wife, Lilie and daughter Sara at their Ruta Verde home. They went over and beyond to help us in so many ways which made our stay in Costa Rica extra special. To add to the excellent hospitality the rooms were beautiful with beautiful views over the city, mountains and coffee fields and Williams meals were always very special and delicious. We can't say enough about this wonderful family. William was always there for us showing us the area, helping us get appointments for our required covid tests to get home, cooking us meals, and just being a friend. We cherished our time there and enjoyed being there learning about the beautiful country of Costa Rica. The rooms were not only beautiful but clean, comfortable, air conditioned and had beautiful views day and night from your room or balcony. We made forever friends and can't wait for our next visit and stay at Ruta Verde House. Thank you so much William, Lilie and Sara! We will be back!!!

We stayed three separate nights at the Ruta Verde House as we used it as sort of a base for other trips during our recent Costa Rica trip. William, the owner, was friendly and available to answer many questions via Whatspp prior to our stay. The "hotel" is a former large home located in a residential area. Our room and our friends room were on the top floor (stairs involved), were very generous in size with beautiful furnishings ,including a ceiling fan, air conditioning (which we didn't need), TV (which we didn't use), good internet and a mini-kitchen with microwave, small refrigerator, coffee pot and a small sink. We each had a patio area with gorgeous views. We opted to have a full breakfast. As my friend handled the arrangements I believe this was probably an extra cost beyond the basic breakfast of fruit and yogurt. We did not plan an early breakfast or departure on two of our days which suited William's schedule as he lives off site and so returns each morning to cook. On the one morning we had an early day we arranged for him to open the gate remotely for our pick-up. There is adequate, gated parking if you have your own car. William sent us the menu before our arrival so we picked out our meal choices and William prepared them beautifully. William picked us up at the airport and provided our transport back to the airport (or rather the Covid-19 testing lab near the airport) for a reasonable fee. We arranged our transport with William ahead of time. We were very relaxed knowing we had reliable transport to and from the airport. We will definitely use Ruta Verde House as a place to stay close to the airport during our next visit to Costa Rica.
There is some noise from early morning traffic on the near by road. When we used the celing fan and closed the sliding glass door to our room we didn't really notice the noise.

Ruta Verde House is a nice place to stay not far from the airport. It is located conveniently close to the SJO airport, just 20 minutes away. The house is in a secure gated and private area. The rooms are very spacious, clean, with comfortable beds, and have spectacular views. Words and photos do not do justice to the breathtaking views. Most rooms have a microwave, fridge, closet, balcony, wi-fi and other accommodations. Check out the photos on their social media pages.
William was a fantastic host; he was accommodating and always helpful. He always went out of his way to make sure we were taking care of.
This was our first time traveling to Costa Rica and we wanted to make sure we took advantage of our time there. I went with a group of six friends. William picked us up from the airport and took care of all the tour reservations, making this trip as smooth as possible.
I highly recommend you reach out to William, for any tour reservations. He has extensive knowledge on the area and will provide you with great information to organize any activities you are interested in doing.
Besides being a great host and tour guide, William is a great cook and managed to cook for us on a few occasions. I do want to point out that we coordinated this trip with William before arriving. The meals, the tours and transportation are not included in the price of the room. These services were pre-arranged before our arrival.
If you are looking for a safe place to stay, this is the place. You get the lodging plus experience and knowledge William brings to the table. The meals are just an added bonus. We will definitely be coming back to Costa Rica and staying at Ruta Verde. Thank you for making our trip memorable, William. Pura Vida!!!

We had last minute changes to our travel plans and needed a place to stay the first night we arrived in Costa Rica. William not only picked us up at the airport after 8:00pm, but he also kindly filled our request to make us dinner despite our late arrival. Between that first night and the delicious meal the following morning, we felt so warmly welcomed and so comfortable at Ruta Verde. We slept so well and woke up feeling like we'd truly arrived. Such a great feeling and far better than anything we would have experienced had we stayed at a hotel right by the airport. Even if you just need a place for one night, Ruta Verde is the perfect spot-- 20 minutes from the airport for ease of transit, but tucked away in a beautiful setting with William and his family as gracious hosts.

We stayed for only one night, however it was a truly beautiful place with William, the host, being very kind and flexible. We arrived quite late and he kept the kitchen open for us as we were very hungry and tired from our flight. He made an excellent dinner and we went to our room. The room is so pretty and very comfortable. The bed was excellent and we slept well. William is also an artist, and we saw many of his paintings in our room and in the restaurant area.
Thank you for a lovely stay.

The room was ok, but we arrived with a baby, which the owner didn't seem to like (although we had booked a room with a baby). We were treated quite unfriendly and didnt feel welcome. Communication in general was bad. We cannot recommend this family-unfriendly place.

Just returned from 2 nights at Ruta Verde B&B and would go back without hesitation. Our family of 4 had a great time (2 adults & 2 kids under 10 years). This is a spot-on place if you're looking for a B&B experience, and to serve as a base for daily excursions.

William messaged before arrival to ask if we'd like dinner & am so glad we said yes. As other reviewers mentioned, he's a fantastic cook. We enjoyed dinner & 2 breakfasts with him - highly recommend. We stayed in the Tambor Coffee Field apartment. The accommodations were spacious & clean, included a kitchen & 2 patios, comfortable beds, things like A/C, hot water in shower, and throwing TP in the toilet (!) (none of these the norm in CR), and maybe most of all the peaceful scenery -- it overlooks fields on either side and in the distance are various mountains and city lights. There's also an outdoor pool, and area with 2 hammocks. There's some road traffic nearby but it was the quietest place we slept over 2 weeks in CR.

We had a day to play with and William helpfully rented us a vehicle in a pinch and was available to offer suggestions and answer questions we had about ideas of what to do, and would make sense with the kids. We appreciated his willingness to get the vehicle ready without advanced notice -- it really made the day for our family to have the flexibility to wander about between sites.

Thank you William & crew for the memorable time!

The views from our private balcony of the mountains, city, and lush fields (with a cute table/2 chairs outside on the balcony beside pretty flowers) provided a relaxing spot after many days of traveling through Costa Rica. William (owner) prepared us an amazing dinner the day we arrived and a traditional Costa Rican breakfast the next morning (our room included a basic breakfast of fruit in yogurt with topped granola, and that looked delicious and freshly made, but we upgraded to this traditional breakfast, and it was incredibly delicious… the best traditional breakfast we ate throughout our entire 10 day trip!) William was very attentive to preparing my meals around multiple food allergies which was greatly appreciated!! Gated hotel with secure parking, a/c, fan, large tv, big shower/double sink-variety, mini refg-sink-microwave-tea/coffee maker with some basic staples like coffee-salt-utensils-wine glasses, etc., and a super comfy king sized bed! Zero complaints about this choice to stay, and the bonus is the 20 minute distance to the airport!! We will definitely return on our next trip to Costa Rica❣️

The room and setting are beautiful. William and his family are lovely and helpful. Only minutes from the airport. Nice place to stay on the way in and out of Costa Rica but so nice we could have stayed longer.

We booked this as our last night in Costa Rica. We wanted to be near SJO airport without being too close. This place has 5 rooms and ours was very comfortable. In fact, this was actually the most comfortable bed we slept in during our entire trip and we were in CR for two weeks.

Apparently they have a "restraunt" on site and there is a menu. However, the night we were there one main dish was cooked and that is what was being served. Kind of a "take it or leave it" type of situation. We hiked back down the road (about a 10 minute walk - tops) to another hotel and ate in their restraunt which had very good food and great service.

There is a list of "rules" here and the owner was very adamant about sharing some of those rules. Things like - don't leave lights on and turning the AC off if not in the room. Conservation of energy and resources types of rules. However, as much as I don't mind doing this - I do not need somebody to tell me this.

Worst thing here - we NEVER had any hot water. Shower was cold - the Pacific Ocean was warmer than the water coming out of the shower! The water in the sinks didn't get hot either. There was a huge soaking tub / jacuzzi in the bathroom that was out of order - water is shut right off for it and it is not advertised as being available per owner.

Breakfast (included) is a bowl of fruit covered with yogurt and granola.

If you do not speak any Spanish, you may run into a language issue here. The owner speaks some English, but we struggled with understanding him and he seems annoyed with us for some reason, but maybe that's just his normal. I guess if I were in the hospitality industry, I would want to make a great impression on my guests - especially if you only have 5 rooms. If you can get past the gruffness and the cold shower then you can give this place 4 stars easily, maybe 4.5. If you are headed to the airport - it will cost you $20 from these people or a cab either way. Give yourself at least 30 minutes to get to SJO.
