The Hotel Monte Rosa is the "Secret Dream", the fruit of love and constant dedication of two young newlyweds, grandparents of the present proprietors, who in 1909, with passion and sacrifice gave life to this establishment, transforming it over the years from a small restaurant to a 4 star hotel with 62 rooms, Restaurant, Banqueting Hall and Swimming Pool. It's located in the beautiful historical porticoed town centre of Chiavari, immersed in the heart of this vibrant small medieval city, and only a few minutes from the promenade. Chiavari moreover is situated at the centre of an area rich in natural beauty: from the uncontaminated Cinque Terre to Portofino, from Genoa, with its aquarium and beautiful historical centre, to Camogli and Sestri Levante. The hotel is the destination chosen by those who have a passion for trekking, tourism, cycling and mountain biking, those who want to forget the car and choose either the train or the boat as an alternative mode transport or those who simply want to relax and be pampered away from the hustle and bustle of stressful living.

According to reviews, this is Chiavari’s best hotel, which may be a commentary on the town rather than the hotel. During a tour of coastal towns, this was the only hotel that disappointed us. The decoration is tired, our room was dreary and breakfast is an experience to be avoided. Breakfast is served in an uninviting room, brilliantly lit like an operating theatre, with a limited range of food in industrial-style containers. The morning we were there, some of the food had been finished by 8am - and the surly waiter didn’t seem to want to replace it. Despite Chiavari’s arcades, the town hasn’t much to offer: much of its coastline is taken up by a very large marina, looking as unpleasant as a car park, and the beach is one to be avoided. Our advice would be to limit a visit to an hour or two and stay in Rapallo or Sestri Levante.

What a joy to find a hotel that you find extremely difficult to fault! Just spent 10 wonderful days here. Excellent room, with careful and attentive house-keeping. And the service from all areas, the reception, pool side and the waiting staff in the restaurants... exceptional! Breakfasts, fresh, simple and local. As for the main restaurant just fantastic local cuisine... nothing too much trouble and a real desire to help you enjoy. Chef and his brigade deserve high mention. A family run hotel, and you can tell, genuine attention to detail. Just a joy. Can't recommend highly enough.

I am actually not sure about this hotel. I would say it depends on what you pay and which rooms you get. Some of the rooms were modernized and they were very nice but also expensive. Nice location dowtown Close to restaurant Close to shops Easy parking in the basement Pool area was very small and crowded(the photo I saw when I booked must have been "adjusted". Breakfast room booring and low capacity. The shelfes with food were empty both mornings

From this hotel you have easy access to everything. The location is just perfect. The room had great air condition and comfortable beds. It was fresh and clean and had an okay standard. Since we traveled by car we had a lot luggage so it was got a bit cramped. We payed for a spot in the garage but there seems to be a lot of place to park around the hotel. The pool area was nice with a lot of sun beds. It got a bit crowded in the afternoon but we always found two empty beds. You can also relax in the pool bar/the terrace. The breakfast room was quite boring. We had dreamt of having breakfast outside but instead had it in the fluorescent lights. The breakfast was good but not spectacular.

We had an awful bnb that we walked out of in nearby Carasco, and Monte Rosa was the first hotel we stumbled across in our search for an alternative. When you need a place to lay your head, urgently, in a strange town, when you can’t access the internet to search, you grab what you can. I’m surprised Monte Rosa has survived as long as it has because it is incredibly difficult to access. You turn off a street, into a tiny Piazza, into a short narrow but two-way lane (and someone will have to backup if there’s another car coming), do a sharp right-hand turn (carefully) followed soon after by a sharp left-hand turn into a one-way street, and hope like heck to find a temporary park while you check-in. And hope they have a spare space for you, because they don’t always. So for it to be so popular despite this, it must be good, and it is. The front desk is usually an indicator, and the two people who greeted us were very pleasant and welcoming, and yes a room was available, and yes they could accommodate our car too, at extra cost of course. And did sir require an extra large bed? (I am 196cm tall). Yes please! In the circumstances, as explained above, we couldn’t really argue about the cost, Euros 165 plus parking, but including breakfast. The room was very nice, the bed also. Breakfast next morning was very good, served in a specific restaurant for the purpose (they have a dinner restaurant as well). Most tastes were catered for, the staff were pleasant and efficient, and the décor was fresh. The different staff on duty for checkout were equally pleasant and helpful. The hotel is very centrally located, and there are lots of laneways around it, with cafes and restaurants. We had a nice stay and a good sleep.
