Hotel San Michele is centrally located but on a quiet street. Our room (twin--two beds) was small but very clean, modern, and comfortable. The mountain view was a treat to behold each morning of the 7-night stay. All members of the staff were friendly and helpful--a restaurant recommended by the desk clerk turned out to be one of the best of the trip. A buffet breakfast, including the most delicious pastries and a very nice cappuccino, was excellent.

I came to L'Aquila in July to escape Rome's heat wave, to see how the city had recovered from the 2009 earthquake, and to visit Gran Sasso (a large national park). The hotel was a very bright spot in a city that is still rebuilding its center. The staff were all welcoming; the room was clean and quiet; the breakfast typical of hotels of this class in Italy.

We visited L'Aquila in September this year. We stayed at San Michele twice as we travelled to the smaller nearby villages and L'Aquila was our connection point to transit. In the center of what is now a ghost town since the earthquake in 2009, this hotel is within walking distance of the historic sites. Reception staff is outstanding, speak very good English, and are eager to help where they can. The room was of average size, spotless, and the bed was a comfy queen. The continental breakfast was Italian-style with an assortment of sweets, breads, croissants, light meats, yogurt, juices and of course, coffee--enough to get us started. Unfortunately, there is no hotel food service available throughout the day however, there are cafes and restaurants nearby. They recommended Ristorante La Grotta di Aligi for dinner -- wow, probably the best meal we had in Italy, and it's only a 2-3 minute walk from the hotel.

Would we stay here again? In a heartbeat.

This charming hotel was just a short walk from the town center. The room was small but very comfortable. A helpful and pleasant staff just added to the overall enjoyment. A wonderful buffet breakfast with cakes, pastries, cereals, juices and lots more was a treat each morning. Rooms are very clean with a good bathroom maintained by an exceptional housekeeping crew. Each day of the stay was made more memorable by waking up to the wonderful view of the mountains . Stayed here for more than a week and I couldn't be happier with it.

The best thing about San Michele is the location. It is a walking distant from the historic center and from quite a few very good restaurants. Otherwise this old fashion hotel is clean and moderately comfortable. Breakfast is generous and tasty. Most (though unfortunately not all) employees are helpful and efficient.

I stayed here for two nights while in L'Aquila on business. This is a basic but clean and comfortable hotel. The staff are friendly and efficient. My room was more than adequate. The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast which comprised the typical continental offerings - meats, cheeses, bread, hardboiled eggs etc. The hotel has complimentary WiFi, which thankfully seems increasingly common these days. The hotel has a comfortable lobby where it is nice to sit in the evening and enjoy a drink from the small bar. The hotel is in an excellent location in the center of L'Aquila. There are numerous bars, restaurants, and cafes within walking distance. L'Aquila is an interesting town. It was hit by an earthquake in 2009, that killed 308 people. The reconstruction of damaged buildings is still going on, so you see a lot of cranes and construction work. I would not hesitate to stay here again if in L'Aquila.

We stayed at the hotel during a huge heatwave and there was no AC nor any fans it was very hot. Other than that, it was fine. Breakfast was also ok, nothing fancy. The service at reception was very good, but they could not help with cooling the room down.

L'aquila is a great looking city. Unfortunately, it is still recovering from the devastating 2009 earthquake. We stopped here on the way to Rome, and didn't realize that there would be so few hotel options. Thankfully the Hotel San Michele was operating and had a room available. The young man at the front desk was incredibly helpful. Our room was modern, spacious and clean. The WIFI was excellent. The hotel is located within walking distance of a park and the main piazza. Most of the city is held up with scaffolding and braces. We only saw a couple of restaurants that were operating. At the time we were there only one church had reopened. It was great to have a nice hotel like the San Michele to come back to at the end of the day. Breakfast was included.

We spent two nights at Hotel San Michele near the end of November as we wanted to see how L'Aquila was faring after the 2009 earthquake. The hotel was very comfortable, the room was warm, spacious and very clean. Very nice bathroom as well. We got a 4th floor room so we'd have some view and it was nice to be able to step out on the balcony. Good breakfast, great location. Antonella at the desk was exceptional, giving us great advice and tips for our time there. She went out of her way to be helpful and pointed out all the key sites on a map and pointed out how we could walk where we wanted to go. She made reservations for us at a Michelin star restaurant, Magione Papale, on the outskirts of town that is affiliated with the hotel where we had a very special anniversary dinner. We also had a wonderful lunch at Da Lincosta. We walked everywhere in spite of the many closed-off roads in the center of town. We hope to go back in a few years to see if the reconstruction efforts continue. Right now, it is quite a ghost town, but certainly worth visiting. We would definately stay at San Michele again next time we visit L'Aquila.
