A lovely old building converted to an hotel in Montepulciano, a fabulous hilltop wine town in Umbria, near Tuscan border. Those who elect to stay in hilltop towns have to put up with rather cramped conditions for obvious reasons, but not here. Spacious bedrooms and bathrooms and interior spaces. No lift so a little lugging of luggage around is involved,...

This is a pleasant hotel with an old world feel to it. Our room had a lovely terrace with an amazing view and we spent a few hours reading and lollygagging there. The bed was comfortable and large. The bathroom was big also with a shower stall and a bathtub which was perfect for a late afternoon soak. Everything was...

Very nice, charming , family run hotel. Probably one of the best value in Montepulciano too. It was about 90 euros a night when we were there in April. I had contacted them prior to getting there, as I was planning to propose to my girlfriend while staying in Montepulciano. They were very helpful and booked us a large room...

The staff (family) are warm and welcoming. The rooms are fairly basic but very large and have amazing views on a pleasent balcony. The house in which the hotel is situated is old and full of character. The breakfast was lovely. We wished we had stayed longer. The only downside was that the bed was a bit old/uncomfortable - but...

Our room with a view of Tuscany lived up to everything that a couple of Aussies had dreamed about. We loved this B&B, everything from the view from the balcony, to the scrambled eggs at breakfast and the easy access to neighboring restaurants and wine and cheese stores added up to the Tuscany that we had imagined. Our balcony, off...

This hotel is right as you enter the town which was important as I really didn't want to navigate the streets of montepulciano in our rental car. We arrived early, shortly before noon, but we were allowed to check in. We parked our car in their back lot and explored the town on foot. Our room was on the top...

Four of us stayed here for one night and really loved the hotel. It's very centrally located and free parking in front. There is also free WiFi. The bedrooms were beautiful with huge balconies and a magnificent view of the countryside, including Lago Trasimeno. The breakfasts were one of the best we've had in Italy - freshly squeezed orange juice...

Owners were very nice, breakfast was good. Our only problem were the thin walls in our room, so we heard our drunken neighbours at 2 o'clock in the morning, as if they were in our room. But it's an old house, so it can be expected. Unfortunately, the bed was really uncomfortable, but everything else in the room was nice.

This is a great location in Montepulciano - near the Porta al Prato, Conad supermarket and parking area just outside the gate. However, the hotel itself feels more like you are staying with your Italian relatives than a hotel. I am sorry to be leaving after 10 days here - while taking a language course at the Sasso school. As...

The hotel sits at the very entrance of Montepulciano. We arrived on a foggy night and had the feeling of entering a medieval movie. It is a family run business and the reception area feels like the living room of a very traditional family, proud of their cultural heritage. Old black and white family photos decorate the reception room walls...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Behind the Medicean column there is the Hotel Il Marzocco, the oldest in town. It was built in 1500 as a farm of the nearby convent. In 1860 it became a hotel and since the early 1900s it has been run by the same family. The hotel looks like a large house where the atmosphere of the old times is still kept. Its bedrooms open on wide lounges that, like the reading room and the sitting room, are furnished with genuine XIX century pieces. Some bedrooms have balconies or terraces with a view on the valleys, other ones have their windows over the Renaissance houses of the old town. The hotel has had important guests like actors, writers, politicians, all of whom are fond of the great view from its terraces. A free parking area is available, as well as comfortable relaxing spaces and a wide dining room where breakfast is served from a rich buffet with home-made bread and cakes, jams and pies. Among the roses of the garden, the Canada creeper climbs until the terraces and creates a pergola up to the roof, at first green in summer, than all red in September and yellow during the autumn. Red geraniums at the windows, together with the old lace curtains, add to the building a perfectly romantic touch. Wi-Fi Connection. We accept pets. Free Indoor garage for motorbikes and bicycles. ... more   less
