we were a Lebanese group traveling on a pilgrimage trip to Italy. we really enjoyed the Monastery San Ludovico institute, even i can say, it was the best place we stayed in, incredibly clean, big but simple rooms, excellent food (breakfast & dinner), in the heart of the historic medieval city of Orvieto, the nuns were so nice, a very...

Is it an hotel or an hospice? Location is great, rooms are fine but on vacation you don't want to have an old ill lady walking a round the corridor band screaming at night. Sweet old lady I asked the staff to help but no noun showed up. The second night the old lady was still crying at night but...

Staying in this historical and beautiful monastery was one of the most unique and memborable places we have stayed. The sisters were incredibly nice! The monastery is beautiful and peaceful. You will never grow tired of wandering through the massive rooms and hallways looking at the many paintings and artwork. The adjoining church is beautiful. We awoke to little children...

Sometimes, when you are on vacation, you need a "vacation from your vacation". Why not consider a monestery stay at Istituto San Lodovico? Located on the edge of the historic medieval town Orvieto, in the heart of Umbria, Central Italy, San Lodovico is the perfect place to unwind at the beginning, middle or end of your Italian trip. I have...

First, you should know that these lodgings are probably not for the first-time traveller. The amenities are sparse and spartan and the nuns in charge speak limited English. We were there during a September, 2011 heat wave and the lack of a/c or fans was acute (some rooms have thermostat-controlled fans, but only one of the five we rented). There...

San Lodovico Institute is the quintessential place to stay for an Italian or Orvietani experience. The property is historic, beautiful, and relaxing. Not only is it perfect base for seeing the amazing Orvieto, but we were able to reach the surrounding sights of Umbria and Tuscany with ease by train or bus. The host is most friendly and her warmth...

Gated grounds with beautiful gardens and nice views. Rooms were clean and comfy. Our room had a view over gardens but you could see out in the distance. Continental breakfast sufficient. Parking is outside walls of city. Do not Park in public parking near Monastery at Campo Boario. It is 80E a day. We drove up and dropped off luggage...

I hate to draw attention to one of my favorite places in the world for fear it will not be mine anymore. My hear belongs here and with the nuns. Unlike a hotel, you will feel calm and tranquil as soon as you enter the doors. It is fun to explore all of the corridors. You can feel the history...

Last November 2009 I stayed here for an educational training, which helped reduce the cost of my stay of two weeks. The Institute of Lodovico is an old Monastery in which nuns still leave but is no longer a closed monastery, but is run by 3 friendly nuns. The rooms with 3 beds were very like monastic life was, plain...

Great value for money - basic but spotless and very comfortable room with own bathroom and view of garden. Located in gorgeous old building with beautiful marble staircases and huge rooms and windows. Quiet and peaceful. Access to porticoed terrace and garden so able to sit outside in the shade on a hot day. Fantastic location near centre of Orvieto...

“My room was toward the far end of the hallway, away from elevator and stairs--very quiet.”

“I didn't get around to all of the rooms, but if views and charm appeal to you, I think you'll be happy with just about any room. Note this isn't a five-star, though. This is a place to get a good night's rest, but not a place where you'd likely want to stay in your room.”

“If you're there to see the area rather than your room, you cannot beat this place for value. I can't imagine that any of the rooms are noisy and doubt there's that much difference.”

“I stayed in room 5A on the second floor that faces a garden and it was incredibly quiet. There is no A/C in the rooms, but they did seem to get a really great cross breeze throughout the day. There is a laundry facility, but there is a 5 Euro charge, which isn't cheap, but you'll be grateful if you need it. They do not change the towels but once a week, so know that it isn't a typical hotel style, but the rooms are very clean and have all the basic needs. Last note that was frustrating is that although there is wifi, if a lot of people are on, the system gets bogged down and doesn't work. Often, we had to walk to the Blue Bar (a 1 minute walk from the Monastery) to get better wi-fi access.”
