The hotel phoned a taxi to take us to the funicular station (across road from train station), taxi €15 euros one way, but worth it in our opinion, driver gave us his card to phone for return journey, he arrived promptly, was courteous & spoke excellent English.
I think you could get a bus from road near hotel or you could walk about - 25 mins or so l guess, busy traffic route though . Funicular train is €1.30 each way, including shuttle bus from Piazza Cahen to Piazza Duomo.
