Detailed Reviews
Moderately priced accommodations in the Dolomites are hard to come by, so this hostel is really a find. Located in the ski village of San Martino di Castrozza, the hostel is surrounded by dramatic mountains and has easy access to ski slopes in the winter or hiking trails in the summer. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, ready to answer our every question. Rooms are clean and neat and the price is right. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it.

We were welcomed as if part of the family and stayed for three nights. Even though it was May, it was snowing when we arrived and thankfully our host, Frederico picked us up in his minivan. The hostel, or ostello in Italian, is a family run business and we soon got to know them on a first name bases.
Breakfast was the typical light meal of juice, coffee/tea, bread with spreads, yogurt and cereals. Dinner, an optional extra, is recommended as Alessandra is an amazing cook, it comprised of a first course of pasta, followed by a meat dish, salad, bread, delicious local red wine, (and i'm not usually a wine drinker) and either fruit or ice cream. We shared a table with the hosts, Silvia and Frederico, who are fluent in english, which made for great conversation. They also provided us with a heap of local info for exploring the area.
The hostel backs on to the national park which has trails all the way up to the Laghi di Colbricon, (picturesque lake) and a ski lift 50 meters away, although it doesn't operate at this time of the year. From our window you could see a clear view across town to the magnificent Dolomities where we took a closer look by bus on the way up to the deer park.
If we plan to come back to Europe next time for skiing or hiking we will definitely come here to San Martino and we wouldn't stay anywhere else than Ostello Dolomiti. Great value, great food and great service.
