#9 of 22 hotels in Sestri Levante
Travellers' Choice
With its amazing panoramic views and located between the Cinque Terre and Portofino, the Vis a Vis is one of the most extraordinary hotels in Liguria and it's managed by the third generation of the De Nicolai family who built the hotel in 1964. The architectural concept and the design of the building recalls a cruise ship on land and this is the peculiarity that makes it so original and exclusive. In a stunning location and at the same time in the central area of the city to which it is connected by a lift carved into the rock, the hotel dominates the view of the Gulf of Tigullio from Portofino to the peninsula of Sestri Levante. It is 45 minutes from Genoa Airport (GOA) and about 1 hour and a half from Pisa Airport (PSA). Completely renovated, the Hotel has 48 rooms and junior suites, all with balcony or small private garden. Some of them offer a wonderful sea-view. The private parking, the heated outdoor swimming pool surrounded by olive trees, the wi-fi connection in all areas of the hotel including the outdoor ones and the bicycle rental, are available to guests free of charge. An efficient charging station is on hand for those traveling by electric cars. The Olimpo panoramic Restaurant offers an a la carte menus for all tastes and a wide selection of excellent wines. An aperitif at sunset time or enjoining lunch on the terrace of the Sky Bar Ponte Zeus with a breathtaking view of two wonderful bays of Sestri Levante are an unmissable experience. At Giunone Wellness are available face and body treatments to relax and enjoy pleasant regenerating moments. Hotel Vis a Vis is a 10-minute walk from the train station and the ferry terminal for daily boat excursions Portofino, Santa Margherita, San Fruttuoso and the Cinque Terre / Portovenere. Those who like the sea, at only a few steps from the hotel they can reach a nice sandy and equipped beach. Hotel Vis a Vis is the perfect place for those who seek and appreciate comfort, excellent service and informal elegance.

Great location on top of hill with nice view, great swimming pool and friendly staff. Good breakfast, great bar for aperitivo in the sunset, didn't try the restaurant. Walking to center is doable but way back very very steep, but that's acceptable if you want to enjoy the top of hill location

Dear svs1983, Thank you very much for having stayed with us and for taking time to share your kind review. It is such a pleasure to read your compliments towards our hotel. We are truly glad to know that you have thoroughly enjoyed your experience, particularly appreciating the beautiful views from our rooftop bar as well as our breakfast with its fresh produce. We remind readers that both to get off and back to the hotel, a very convenient lift is available from our reception that leads to the street level. For those who love walking it is possible to go down to the historic center in a few steps on foot through the beautiful path that will immerse you directly in the old city. Thanks again for choosing the vis à Vis! We will be looking forward to welcoming you back on another occasion. Kind regards,

Beautiful view from the hotel, perfect location and friendly staff. Loved the city. Only problem was that the hotel is to sounded - we could hear the neighbours way to well. You should consider putting carpet on the floors in the rooms. Otherwise a perfect hotel.

We reserved a Junior Suite with sea view, town view, and jacuzzi. All of the staff were super nice and friendly. Helpful in every way. I took away one of my dots in the rating because of the room. The property is very nice. The best feature is the roof bar. The pool is great. Their restaurant was nice but when you go to a nice place like this and they give you almost an afterthought of a “gift” from the chef or amuse bouche they should either put some effort into it or just forget it. I don’t understand because when you order a drink at the bar they bring platefuls of nice tastes, so the kitchen CAN do it. The breakfast was nice enough. Pastries, yogurts, small bit of ham and cheese. Also hard boiled eggs and cereal available. All of this comes with the room. You can also order eggs and omelettes. For a price. Juice is €6 to give an idea. Now for the room - #215. We paid a good deal for the room and I don’t think it came up to the price point in what we got. For instance, only one trash can in a two room suite and it was in the bath. Very easily fixed and most inconvenient. Their included amenities in the bath were very sparse. They went on the cheap with big wall mounted bottles of shampoo and body wash. They had only one small bar of soap for the sink. But none for the bidet. And if you bath in the tub you can’t reach the shampoo. They did have a small bottle of cream rinse and one body lotion. The other things like sewing kit, hair cover, shoe shine pad were in paper wrappers that had obviously been there a long time, wrinkled and dingy. Much handled by previous guests. The safe in the closet needs fixing, it’s old and worn out. The bedspread looked very old as well - very dated. They didn’t bother to put cushions on the chairs that were on the balconies which made them less than comfortable. Another easy fix. The bed was very comfortable. The AC worked well. Nice robes provided.

Dear shtinky, thanks for your detailed review which rewards us with a very good score. We thank you above all for highlighting some suggestions and imperfections that you noticed that we will strongly consider with our staff. This is the real usefulness of intelligent feedback as we like to define them, because they help us to improve our work constructively. Just let us specify that there is no extra charge for fruit juices at breakfast. We offer many types and they are included in the price such as scrambled eggs, grilled bacon and wurstels, assorted charcuteries and cheese..... Only freshly squeezed orange juices and special omelettes from the gourmet menu are available with supplement. Once again, thank you for your valued feedback and we hope to serve you again whenever your travels bring you back to Sestri Levante! Kind regards,

The hotel is comfortable & very nice view. The staff is awesome. It’s pity the breakfast isn’t so good : it will be nice to put some speciality of italy 🇮🇹 [ small tiramisu, small cannolo etc..] The eggs 🥚 needs to be more fresh. The rooms are nice [ it will be great to put inside of the bathroom «  2 Disposable toothbrush & toothpaste]

Dear Sebgazel, Thank you for staying with us and writing a review! We are sorry to hear that your opinion on breakfast does not show full satisfaction because the eggs that are prepared every morning are very fresh like all the products we offer. The cakes and croissants are strictly homemade by our pastry chef. Tiramisu is a dessert that is offered on our à la carte menu for dinner as it is not suitable for breakfast. We are sure that you have been able to taste our jam tarts, assorted muffins, chocolate cakes, plum-cakes and the many types of breakfast desserts that are widely assorted every day. As indicated in our information leaflet, toothpaste and toothbrush are always available upon request. In any case, we are pleased that the evaluation of your stay at Vis à Vis is overall very positive and we thank you for your comments, A warm greeting from all our staff who thanks you for being so appreciated! Kind regards,

I don't ever write negative reviews but I am astonished at the fact that this hotel has 4 stars. Full disclosure, I did not book this hotel for my stay rather was forced to evacuate my preferred hotel because the hotel was flooded due to a major storm that hit the area and was consequently moved to Hotel Vis a Vis. Once arriving at the hotel you realize how catastrophic the parking situation is. Guests are forced to park on a VERY steep winding incline that is always packed with other cars and provides no valet or parking assistance to ensure you're not struggling each time you come or go. R.I.P. to your E-Break. Upon check in I was ignored until I greeted the front desk clerk to which she responded with a simple, "hello". I then proceeded to explain that I would like to check in and was asked for my passport, which was only returned to me upon revisiting the front desk for a second time. I was provided with a large stone that was intended to be the room key and told my room number. Once entering the room I was overwhelmed by how warm it was and see that the air-conditioning system says that it is 28 degrees celsius in the room. I called the front desk and soon had someone at my door explaining to me that the air-conditioning is only used for heating the hotel and that the hotel self regulates it's temperature so the "regulated temperature" of my room apparently needed to remain at 28 degrees. The only relief from the heat was opening the balcony door which appeared to have homed a colony of ants under the vinyl floor that was covering the entire room that was coming up at the edges. When informing the front desk about this I was told, "thanks for letting us know". After such an eventful check in experience I realized I was never even told what sort of amenities were made available to the guests of Hotel Vis a Vis, so I venture back to the front desk and ask about them myself and finally encounter a very friendly front desk clerk who provides me with a map of the area and advice on some cool stuff to see. Later in the evening I turned in for my first night in the room and realized that the curtains were nothing more than a sheer sheet of fabric that would be welcoming the sun into the room each morning. I lay in bed regardless and begin to realize that not only are the curtains the thinnest things I'd ever seen but so are the walls. I decided to take part in the free WiFi that was offered as to drown out the noise of my neighbors only to realize that the connection moves at a snail's pace and was basically inoperative. Luckily I was only to stay at the hotel for two nights and a couple days later I was able to check out. I walked down to the lobby and although there were 3 people working the front desk, I was not greeted by anyone. I was checked out by the same clerk that did my check in who proceeded to ask me if I had been given a pool pass upon check in, to which I replied with no as she had not only refused to give me any information about the amenities that were available to me but apparently she had also withheld my ability to use the pool during my stay. Finally after thinking good riddance and heading out to my car not looking forward to the strenuous maneuvering it would take to get it off of this incline, I just barely miss mound of dog faeces immediately upon exiting the front door to the hotel. Unfortunately the gardener in front of me didn't have the same luck. There are so many options in Sestri Levante to choose from. Save your time and frustration and only visit Hotel Vis a Vis for their restaurant because that is the only good thing about this place.

Dear rashelec2018, We deeply regret that your time with us didn't meet your expectations. Your experience is not on par with the level of service we're accustomed to sharing with our guests. With great satisfaction but also with the constant aim of improving ourselves, the data concerning us confirm an overwhelming majority of very positive reviews. We thank you for appreciating the beauty and quality of the service of our Olimpo Restaurant, while it seems almost impossible that everything you have reported has been ignored. In particular, our reception staff takes care of every report and it seems incredible to us that as you say they have not been able to remedy any problem. We have already carried out some checks and we have the feeling that your great disappointment is probably due to the original situation that led you to Vis à Vis not by choice but following the re-routing of the Hotel Villa Agnese that you had booked and that was able to accommodate you because completely flooded. We can therefore understand that you were not entirely happy from the very first moments of your stay in a hotel that you did not choose and believe that many "colorful" aspects of your review were only intended to be the result of the will to denigrate our service. We do hope that this experience has not permanently tarnished your impression of the Hotel Vis à Vis and for professional consistency we will check every aspect you have reported evaluating the critical issues that have caused your dissatisfaction. We thank you for your feedback and hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide you with the experience you expected.
