We spent 6 days in this Pension restaurant. Everything is perfect, the rooms are spacious, clean and delicately maintained every day. The bedding is good, the beds in king size and even a third adult finds his place in this spacious room, air conditioning appreciated especially in summer. Breakfast is very good, with quality products. The restaurant is very good too even if a little expensive. Possibility to find other addresses on Varese. Last point, the staff is very helpful and super nice. If you want to have a good time this is where you should go.

Nice little 3* hotel on the shores of Lake Varese. Very quiet location. The only thing between the hotel and the lake is the hotel's own garden restaurant. Rooms are OK and clean, plenty of parking spaces. A few minutes by car to the city. Breakfast is typically Italian, lots of sweet pastries, the usual toast, cheese and salami. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed that evening

Very nice and quiet 3-star hotel on Lago Varese. Comfortable room and bed, large bathroom, nice staff. The highlight though is the restaurant, delicious food and drink. Good place to have a rest before a longhaul flight from Milano Malpensa.

We spent two nights here in October , in a pleasant room with lake views. Very clean hotel, lovely big bed, room made up daily & squeaky clean bathroom with fresh towels every day. Continental breakfast available - But if you want anything cooked, you have to pay extra. A few points to note for future travellers: Hairdryer and toiletries provided - toiletries are minimal and no conditioner. No kettle in room and no complimentary water, the only water available is in the minibar at €2.50 for a small bottle. The pillows on the bed were the very thin, flat variety, although we appreciated the feather duvet. The hotel is right beside the lake with a free car park. We had lunch here in the restaurant twice. The menu is ok for a couple of meals but you might want to try and explore elsewhere .... there was a lack of fresh salad & vegetables. I guess it depends what you are looking for, it's quite pasta heavy (as he would expect in Italy) but even the fish @ meat dishes came with just potato ... no vegetables. Service was good and the staff are very friendly- staff on reception speak English. All in all a pleasant stay, reasonable value for three star hotel.

The Hotel Vecchia Riva is located directly on Lake Varese. We had our mountain bikes with us, which were safely stored in a locked room.
We had a room on the 2nd floor with a view of the lake, which was very attractive. The most impressive thing was the beautiful bathroom with an incredibly large shower. Be careful when booking a room with a lake view! Our friends had a room with a lake view on the 1st floor, but this view was blocked by tall trees. If you have a room with a lake view, make sure you are on the 2nd floor, otherwise unfortunately you won't have a lake view.
The breakfast is OK, like you would have breakfast in the south. There were boiled eggs, other egg dishes were possible for an additional charge. Juices and water were available, as well as fresh whole fruit, yogurt and muesli.
There is a small outside terrace where you can have breakfast in the morning, as well as a beautiful garden for dining in the evening. We did this one evening. The menu is a bit complicated but you can see through it :-). The food was appealing and very tasty. The wines too.
All in all, we really liked the Hotel Veccia Riva, the staff were very friendly.
I only gave it a satisfactory rating because there were massive problems with our bill on the day we left. The rooms had been paid for in advance, but this was not taken into account. There were also massive discrepancies with the remaining bill for consumption over the 3 days of our stay, and we spent over an hour clarifying the bill. This really spoiled our overall impression.
So it was only a satisfactory rating.
The lake itself - we cycled around the lake once, about 28 km - is nice, with beautiful views and rest areas, but we missed the small beaches. With a bike, you are of course flexible, we also cycled to Lake Maggiore, and on the way there were also smaller lakes where you could swim or go into the water. There is also a swimming pool right next to the Hotel Vecchia Rive.
The main town of Varese is very beautiful and ideal for shopping. The Sacro Monte di Varese is very impressive and beautiful. The holy mountain of Varese is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From below you can see it as a small town clinging to the mountain. This trip is definitely worth it.

We visited hotel and restaurant 6th of august 2021. The hotel room was clean and nice. We could not use terrace. We reserved table also for dinner in restaurant outside area not far from the Varese lake. On a scale of 1-10: Food was 4. Service was 3. I waited for cheque 1 hour and still had to ask again for opportunity to pay.

I returned to this restaurant after several years and I must say that it was a very pleasant return. Wonderful welcome, from all the staff. Renovated, fine and clean. Great food and fair price. We stayed here a week ago for one night before our flight home; great location 30 minutes from MXP, nice walk around lake area, modern hotel with small terraces open to view of lake (ask for lakeview room), good bathroom and amenities. Surprisingly modern enery-saving technology in the rooms. For the room, prices are fair and we were allowed to check out a bit late to accommodate our flight plans. But, we had dinner here and it was not what we'd expected. The food, while reasonably priced, was a poor imitation of what we'd been eating in Piemonte for a week. The dining room was much too brightly lit, with no ambience. The restaurant has lovely floor to ceiling doors that open to views of the lake, but they were closed despite the mild evening so all we could see was our reflection in the glass. We felt like we were dining at McDonald's and cannot recommend the restaurant. The breakfast buffet was OK with a decent selection; croissants, cereal, fruit, yogurt, cereal bars, and some cold meats. There is a computer in the lobby available to guests at cost of 1 Euro/30 minutes. This hotel is modern and a pleasant enough place to stay for convenience to MXP, but find a restaurant in Varese instead of dining at the hotel.

Food is delicious! Everything we took was very-very tasty. And the portions was big enough. Many locals come there for a dinner and it creates a warm friendly autmosphere. Personnel is very friendly and delicate.
I would recommend rissotto with mushrooms and blueberry.
2. The hotel is new
Everything in the room is shinnig with freshness, brightness, is new and very clean. You really get the feeling that you are among the first guests there.
Rooms are decorated simply but with good taste.
3. Excellent location
On the minor road, but anyway very quiet and peaceful. Easy reachable from Milan Malpensa.
Varese Lake is just 1 minute away. There is a beautiful park with lots of swans there (mind to take some bread for them).
Varese Lake is a great place for bicycling. The road circuits the Lake coming through parks (sometimes crossing roads though). The nature, the views - everythings was wonderful!
(Bear in mind that it takes minimum 4-5 hours to circuit the Lake.)
