The positive outweighs the less positive - we recommend the hotel

Like · The first thing that strikes you as very positive is the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff. The hotel is very centrally located in the old town, so you can reach everything worth seeing and restaurants on foot. It is still very quiet. The car is parked for free in a monitored courtyard. The shower is great, the bed is comfortable, the breakfast buffet is sufficient (not outstanding for a 4-star hotel)

Didn't like · The room could do with a bit of color, because everything is in gray-beige-white tones with no pictures on the walls. It was too hot in the room (26 degrees) and the temperature control/air conditioning was out of order. The room was quiet on the outside, but it was a bit noisy on the inside. Not bad, but I did hear doors slamming, furniture being pushed around and people talking loudly at night. In Switzerland, this hotel would have deserved 3 stars, not 4. Because for the 4 stars it has, we didn't think it was so good that they charge extra for egg dishes at breakfast. The free WiFi isn't very reliable, sometimes it throws you off the line. At night, the lights on the light switches are too intrusive. I was glad I had my blindfold on.

We have stayed here a number of times and come at least once a year to stay. The kids love the breakfast buffet - even though it is sparse and minimalistic, they enjoy the fact that the soft boiled eggs are delivered to the table and that they have to make their own toast! We placed our largish family in one suite and slept well! Great beds, plenty of pillows and no request left unfulfilled. The staff is more that accommodating, and are, as is expected in Italy, extremely kids friendly. Highly and without reservations, recommended.

The staff couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. They had great recommendations for meals and helped us obtain reservations. Then, we were faced with a train strike and needed to find a way to our next destination. They quickly organized transportation for us and saved the day. The hotel itself is in a perfect location close to the train station (a five minute walk) and in the center of the city. Rooms were large, clean and comfortable and the rainhead shower was great!

We stayed for three nights. Our room was in the annex, not in the main building. The WiFi was erratic.
There is ample secure parking. And it is easily accessible, through a wide gate, which is locked over night and has CCTV. The surface spaces are a very good size. There is also underground parking.
Our room was big, a mini-suite. It had a large safe and a fridge. Bathrobes and slippers also. Comfortable beds.
The bathroom was big, with a great shower.
Everywhere was absolutely spotlessly clean.
Breakfast was very good. The lady in the breakfast room makes excellent double espressos.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. They gave me good advice on getting to Campione d'Italia, when my satnav was of little help. It’s a curiosity - an Italian enclave, on the shore of Lake Lugano, completely surrounded by Switzerland. My main problem was getting there and back without incurring the €40 Swiss motorway toll.
We also got good recommendation from the hotel for restaurants. They list a number on the city map which they provide. We went to Bologna, which was great (closed Tuesdays, otherwise we'd have gone again) and La Piedigrotta for pizza.
Go at opening time to either, if you don’t have a reservation. Otherwise forget it.
Varese is a lovely relaxing town with colonnaded streets, lots of high-end shops and plenty of eateries.
We will definitely stay again at Hotel di Varese.

4-star hotel but small in size and "family" managed in spirit, in a historic building. Excellent welcome on arrival, friendly staff, modern furnishings, all services of a good standard, very central. Internal parking is essential. They even have umbrellas available for customers if needed! We were there on the occasion of a visit to Villa Panza (FAI) and the pilgrimage to the Sacro Monte of Varese. Excellent experience from all points of view.

Nice modern rooms in nice hotel, located in the centre of the old town. Very attentive and helpful staff. They help and try to satisfy any slightest request. Some of the most hospitable…
delicious, high-quality breakfast. The choice is not big, but everything you need is there and of excellent quality - which is the most important thing.

Look no further for a great hotel. We loved the closeness to train, and center of town. We had a balcony overlooking parking area and it was quiet and peaceful along with church bells in the distance. The breakfast was amazing, great selections, excellent service. Room was dark and quiet, peaceful. Hotel was small boutique size. The bathroom and amenities were great, excellent shower as well as the blow-dryer. (important for some of us!)

We stayed two nights, as a base for exploring the Lake Como area. Our room was fantastic, spacious with a wonderful en-suite bathroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was splendid, so really what more can I say, it was a shame to leave.

Arrived early evening and encountered the most unhelpful woman (redhead by the name of Deborah) Choice of a suite with a fridge full of booze (for 70 euros) No thanks ..Finished up with a dingy dirty room under the stairs which was hot and uncomfortable.. Didn't sleep well because no aircon and sweaty bed linen !

The breakfast was a 'fly infested ridden ' pile of stale ham and cheese with no croissants only stale ..Give this place a very wide berth !
