We spent 5 amazing nights at this nostalgic, belle epoque style Italian grand hotel in July 2024. The hotel is really well located only a 5 minute walk from the shops and restaurants of Palanza but far enough to not feel "in town". The setting is stunning with beautiful lakeside grounds, ample and comfortable sunbeds that don't feel crowded even when the hotel is full and sun all day (due to its location) with picturesque sunsets. In addition to the view across the lake to Stresa, there is a spectacular view to the tiny Isola San Giovani - only a 25 metre swim from the hotel's private access to the lake via a small beach at the front of the gardens. The hotel facilities include luxury spa with indoor pool and well kitted out gym. There are so many activities accessible around the lake - boat trips to the islands and other towns, water and inland activities and the hotel has a large fleet of electric bikes to explore the well marked trails around the lake. The front desk were very helpful and thorough in understanding what we wanted to do or eat and then arranging trips and restaurants tailored to our wishes.

We were lucky enough to stay in a beautiful corner suite with front and side terraces but there are panoramic views of the whole lake from all of the front facing rooms and even the partial lake view rooms have stunning views of the lake and the town due to the position of the hotel at the tip of Verbania.

Meanwhile, what really set this hotel apart for us was the service-oriented culture of the staff from the front desk, to concierge, to restaurants to the lakeside staff and housekeeping. This culture is clearly led by example from the top down by the incredible hotel manager, Thomas Schmidt. He made the effort to get to know the guests when passing in the lobby and in the garden relaxing areas etc and took a real interest in them, without at any stage being overbearing or intrusive. This really made our stay for us, with Thomas even phoning the front desk on his day off as we were checking out at the end of our stay, to wish us a nice onward journey!

If I had to be critical of something (if not to just show that this review is genuine), some of the older rooms are a little tired, but this is reflected in the price and I understand a refurbishment is planned for the winter 2024/25 season.

We will definitely return to this picturesque and relaxing lakeside paradise.

It was our first time in Verbania and in this hotel and we were not disappointed. If you are looking for a quiet holiday in a romantic location, I'd really recommend it.

The hotel is situated close to the centre (with mainly restaurants and cafes, not many stores) and directly on the lake in which one can swim (the hotel has an indoor swimming pool as well). It is a very impressive family-owned old building, truly 'majestic'. We were upgraded to a maisonette suite (5th floor) with a terrace and fantastic views on the lake and the Borromeo islands opposite the hotel. The bedroom and bathroom were situated upstairs, and the living room downstairs. What has proven rather impractical was that the wardrobes were downstairs (there are only a few shelves upstairs) and there was no mirror there. So you may be walking up and down until you are happy with your looks - you can also look at yourself in the balcony window but it's not the same. The bathroom also lacks a magnifying mirror.

The hotel has one upmarket restaurant for lunch and dinner with really delicious food. Breakfast was varied but I found strange that around 15 minutes before the end of breakfast, food was not replenished and sometimes the food was being taken away even 5 minutes before the end of breakfast. And at times we had to ask the staff to bring food that was missing even earlier.

Otherwise service was great throughout the whole stay. In addition, we met the hotel General Manager a few times; he was very friendly and helpful, personally making sure the guests are happy.

We took two trips - to the Lake Como (Como town) by car and also to three Borromeo Islands by boat. Both trips were very interesting and the locations are worth visiting, particularly the islands.

Overall a great experience although the weather was not the best - it kept changing and it was raining a couple of days but was still warm.

This hotel is ideally located on the banks of Lake Maggiore, in the quiet area of Palenza, away from the road that circles the lake. Even more peaceful as it is not immediately on the port, but only 5 minutes walk from it and its restaurants. We had booked a superior room but were upgraded to a junior suite. 35 m², a dressing room, a balcony overlooking the lake (small but enough to install two chairs). The best! The bedding is comfortable. The large lawn at the foot of the hotel allows you to relax in the sun or in the shade of the large trees, the choice is yours. The only point of improvement would be to add a kettle and a coffee machine to the mini-bar in the room.
I read that customers were complaining that the TV was too small and the wifi was a little finicky. It's true but frankly, we don't come here to watch TV or surf the web! The view from the bedroom window is enough to delight the eyes.
I will definitely return to stay at this hotel.

Certainly not a 4 star superior hotel. Poor service from the moment you arrive. Passports confiscated and not told when we could collect.

Room is extremely dated and whilst clean not worthy of 2 stars in terms of facilities. TV which does not show English channels. Noisy fridge. Lights not working. As we stayed in September air con was not available. Some of the Shutters for the windows didn’t open making room much warmer than necessary. Noise from the bar and terrace down below was late into the evening on our first nights stay.

Breakfast was very poorly labelled (buffet style) so anyone with a food allergy would have difficulty knowing what they were eating. Only one cup of tea or coffee was offered. Cups were also dirty and no apology offered when we asked for another. food was not covered so potentially unhygienic.

No kettle in the room so had to request hot water from the bar for a cup of tea. This despite a request as to why there wasn’t which was ignored by reception.

Toilet continued to flush and water wasted. Unhygienic shower curtain hanging in the bath. No separate shower. So problematic for mobility issues. Separate toilet but only one bin between the 2 rooms.

Stayed 2 nights but towels not changed or carpet vacuumed. No bathrobe despite website saying* they were provide. Broken safe, very small queen size bed.

Don’t expect USB charging ports. Oh and no drinking water provided, yes you can drink water from the tap but they still don’t provide more than 1 small glass in the bathroom.

If you mention anything to reception they say ‘you only need to ask’ but why should I expect to keep asking for the basics? I don’t want to waste my holiday asking for these things, just provide! 4 star hotels should do. Which are all of the above.

Does this really sound like a 4 start hotel even for Italy?

We stayed at this romantic hotel for our wedding anniversary. The staff was very kind and attentive right away: they offered us a room upgrade and surprised us with macarons offered for dinner to celebrate the anniversary, really kind! Unparalleled views, you have the feeling of being immersed in the lake. Restaurant with delicate and refined dishes. Really nice experience!

Sensational! An impeccable stay in a dream location... From the spaces (pool, park, sauna) to the staff (kind and authentically attentive) elegance, attention to detail and attention characterized our stay. Restaurant like a starred restaurant for raw materials, savoir faire and dishes... Highly recommended location... We will be back...

Historic and very well maintained structure on the lake shore, private covered parking a few meters away and a very usable park. Restaurant with excellent cuisine, shame about the wine list, already limited and then two selected labels not present, certainly not up to par. The spa is also very small, but the swimming pool is good. Overall more than recommended.

The location, the garden with direct access to the lake is great, there is nothing there. Friendly staff. For us, the price/performance ratio was not right, I would have expected more, especially for breakfast, a completely normal, simple buffet, I ate the scrambled eggs every day, but tasty and appealing is something else. There were other egg dishes, but only for an extra charge, which I didn't think was appropriate for the total price.
We booked this hotel primarily because of the spa/wellness area, the sauna only fits 3 people and then it's full, maybe we should have done more research beforehand.
We wouldn't book the hotel again because the overall package isn't right for us.

This hotel is amazing ! Staff are super helpful and attentive - nothing is too much trouble for them.
Room service is the best I’ve ever had - fresh pasta delivered to the room in under 20 min (had hangovers)!
In the best location - right in the hustle bustle but rooms are so quiet . We will 100% be coming back here .

If it is true that the accommodation is something classic, but it has a very special charm. The staff is super nice and always willing to help you (in all departments). The gardens are spectacular, very spacious and with plenty of space not to feel burdened with other guests. The private entrance to the lake is super idyllic and the pool is great!! The location also perfect! 5 minutes walk from the main square Del pueblo and 20 minutes drive from the other larger and busier villages. We loved it! We will return without hesitation!

Dear Sir, thank you for your message. In order to allocate the most suitable room according to our Guest's needs, we usually ask the age and if they are able to walk or not, since in our hotel we also have rooms for disabled people. These rooms are located only on the 1st floor of the hotel and haven't got lake view. One type of room (standard room, 17 sq.mt) has wheel-in shower and grab rails to the toilet, the other type of room (superior room, 18 sq.mt) has only wheel-in shower. Both rooms are smaller than a junior suite (32-35 sq.mt), where we sometimes accommodate disabled guests. The Junior suite has side lake view, a big bathroom with bathtub (no shower) and it is more spacious than other rooms so that it is possible to move easily inside the room (also with wheelchairs). In case you would like to reserve a room in our hotel, kindly inform us about the period you would like to stay. We remain at your disposal for any further information you may need and send herewith kindest regards Grand Hotel Majestic

Dear Lisa, thank you for your request. Kindly note that the closest airport to our hotel is Milan Malpensa and is around 60 km far from us. If you wish, we can arrange a private transfer from there to our hotel and the cost is Euro 154,00 per way, per car up to 3 people. If you are more than 3 people, supplement could apply. We remain at your disposal for any further information you may need and hoping to welcome you at Lake Maggiore, send herewith kindest regards Grand Hotel Majestic
