Decided to have an impromptu long weekend away with the wife. So with a couple of days notice we decided to try a book a room at The Elks Head. We were confronted with the most ridiculous booking policy I have come across in over 30 years of travelling. I could have understood "sorry sir but we are fully booked"...

That is not a policy of ours. I think what you have refrained to mention is that you were using a Groupon voucher, which has its' own terms and conditions of booking. One of them is that the booking must be made atleast 7 days prior to your stay as the voucher codes need to be checked and verified before...

We stayed here for 1 night, bed, breakfast and evening meal. The bedrooms were clean and tidy. The evening meal was fantastic, the chef can cook. The breakfast was great too, selection of cereals, fresh grapefruit, yogurts, jams, then there were a choice of coffee and different teas, orange juice and apple juice. We both decided to have the full...

Apologies for the German title, but it sounds better than "Nice Stay"! Stopped here for 1 night's bed, breakfast, and evening meal. Have to report that all was good and room was fine. Great location and setting. Very welcoming staff. Best of English hospitality.

My husband and I called in for an evening meal on our way to visit friends. The meal and the service was excellent and reasonably priced . It is such a shame that the place is let down by the dirty and stained condition of the dining room carpet which was very off putting .

Visited here for 1 night on 21st November. Checked in and the barman showed us to our room. Bedroom was nice, clean with modern decor. Had a great meal in the bar beautifully cooked and a good price then drinks in the bar. The staff made us feel like we were regulars with a family feel. Only issue was the...

Traveling from Newcastle to Keswick to visit family for a few days and fancied a coffee. it's a nice little place to break up the journey. Joanna was very welcoming and listed off all the different types of coffee she could do and flavours ( I did not know there was so many flavours ) I just stayed safe with...

Me and my brother went on holiday together and stayed at The Elks Head. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome, especially by staff member Wade. The atmosphere was so warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for the staff there. The room was spotless and the food there is great at a...

Stayed just the one night on our way to Scotland. Staff really helpful and pub is dog friendly but for those who don't like our four legged friends have a separate dinning area. Bedrooms comfortable and the little extras were a nice finishing touch. Hope to stay again on our next visit up north.

We stayed here by chance on a drive from Newcastle to the west coast and booked it at the last minute and we are so glad we did. The Elk's Head is right on a river and falling asleep with the sound of the water flowing was wonderful (silently, not loudly) This scenery in the area is absolutely stunning. Not...

Called in for lunch on way to stay at Lake District as I had stayed and eaten there before. Lucky to catch Steffan thh Chef who was leaving to return to France after 12 years here. I treated myself to pan fried guinea fowl in a wild mushroom sauce. Fantastic. Hope the Elks Head has a good replacement lined up.
