If you want to experience true Costa Rica - stay with Norma in La Garita. There are those vacationers who stay at the resorts on the beach and see a "tourist" Costa Rica, and then there are those that truly want a Costa Rican vacation - THOSE people - should stay with Norma. Located in La Garita, we spent a week eating at the local sodas and experiencing the reality of Costa Rica. Our villa was safe, secure, and TRANQUIL. Mangos off the tree just feet from our front door, and all of the amenities we needed to relax (pool, hammock) right on-site.

Norma and Carlos are two of the main features of Norma's Villlas. They are ever welcoming to the Pura Vida lifestyle. A comfortable one bedroom house, a two bedroom or a villa, the total area is rural yet convenient. Easy access to anywhere via the old road to the beach or the Caldera highway. You can do day trips to most anywhere from Norma's. Two full sized pools and one for the toddlers. Fruit trees and tropical plants. But most of all a welcoming smile that makes you want to return...

Norma's Villa served as my launching pad to much of Costa Rica. My wife and I are exploring the possibility of spending considerable in CR. Consequently, I traveled to CR to get a first hand look and feel of the things that make it a significant retirement location.

The Villas is located on a main road. Making access to public transportation quick and easy. The Villas as maintained in excellent condition. They are well appointed. The large grounds offer boundless access to the beauty of nature. From Norma's I was able to see much of the Central region, San Jose and also travel, using transportation, to Limon and as far south as P. Viejo.

The staff was ever available and offered excellent service. We plan to travel back to CR early next year for a longer stay and will definitely try to book our stay with Norma's Villas.

I have moved away from the Province of Alajuela to be safe during the Coronavirus. Norma refused to refund me and shortchanged me by $250. Her public washrooms are filthy and she is allowing day visitors. Her facility is coronavirus unsafe.

Norma's Villas were quiet, beautiful and clean. The scenery is beautiful. The location of the villas made it easy to travel in any direction and was close to the airport. Norma was always available to answer any questions we had and was an absolute gem. The full kitchen was a plus and we were even able to do laundry in our villa! This was our first trip to Costa Rica and we are looking forward to returning with our younger daughter. We will without a doubt stay at Norma's Villas again.

We have made frequent trips to Costa Rica to escape the Canadian winter and have settled on Norma's as the ideal setting. It has everything needed for a comfortable, pleasant stay. In our case we do not use a car while there but find that local transportation suits our need perfectly. I particularly appreciated the access to washing facilities as our stays tend to be longer...two months.

My vacation in late 2008-early 2009 marked my 5th trip to Costa Rica as well as my 5th stay at Norma's Villas. I have stayed anywhere from 4 days to 2 months at Norma's and consider it the perfect place to stay if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful, and beautiful location.
As a single female traveler, I felt safe and comfortable and the owners made me feel at home. Norma speaks English very well and her husband Carlos, although he does not speak English, is a wonderfully friendly and helpful man.
This quaint and clean little resort boasts 3 swimming pools, always beautifully kept. There is a tennis court and plently of natural landscape to explore. Indigineous species of iguana, birds, butterflies, and other animals are at home at Norma's. I loved to sit out by the "picnic tree" and just admire the beauty of the place. There are orchids growing from the picnic tree, as well as all over the grounds.
All villas are fully equipped for a short or long-term stay. I especially liked having a kitchen where I could cook my own meals, especially on longer visits. There is a small grocery store in walking distance from the villas and the larger town of Alajuela is only 20 minutes away, with plenty of shopping opportunities.
Local or day -trip "attractions" include the country's zoo (Zoo Ave), a butterfly farm, Volcan Poas, and many bars/restaurants, to name a few. The Pacific Ocean and its beautiful beaches are less than 2 hours away. While I prefer staying in the quiet town of La Garita, for a change of pace, the city life in San Jose is only 40 minutes away.
Only 20 minutes from the International Airport, Norma's makes a perfect spot to stay at the beginning or end of a vacation. I WILL be returning to CR and Normas in the very near future and highly recommend it to families, singles, girlfriend retreats, and retired persons. The only people I wouldn't recommend for Norma's would be those looking for a non-stop wild party!
Pura Vida!

My two-day stay at Norma's Villas was a perfect way to start my two-week vacation in Costa Rica. Rick met me at the airport and drove me to the compound - ten fenced acres with diffferent sizes of villas/cottages, a common social area with couches and chairs next to the upper pool, a second large swimming pool with an adjoining covered area with four hammocks, trails, a stream, and a laundry facility accessible to guests.

I stayed in a lovely villa/cottage with a kitchen. I enjoyed swimming - there are two large pools - and relaxing in the hammocks provided. Guests are free to wander the ten acres - and birds and butterflies are abundant.

Rick & Carlos (Norma was away for a family gathering) make you feel right at home and provide mamy services - including laundry facilities and free phone calls within Costa Rica.

There were several couples staying there at the same time and, I believe, a family with children. This is a great place for anyone - as a single woman traveling solo, I was made to feel totally welcome and comfortable.

Norma and Lisa are amazing. I had the best trip of my life. They arranged a driver, made trip recommendations, and had a diner party with my family. It was AWESOME! I loved every minute of my trip. We will be coming back

This was my first trip to Costa Rica and staying here was the best place that I ever could have stayed. The environment was so soothing and the people were so friendly that it felt like I was more at home here then back stateside. Every single person treated me with respect and as if they had known me their entire life, if you are looking for a home away from home I would look no further.
