Comfortable room although not very large, very clean as well as the renovated bathroom. The breakfast is excellent (just a little bit expensive). The receptionists are very helpful and friendly . And the location of the hotel is perfect close to the beach and the cruises departure point on the bay.
The newly renovated Grand Hotel Richelieu stands out in its classic look and nicely selected colors, design and furniture/fabrics. The rooms are medium sized with a nice comfortable bed and enough closet space. Other than that, the room just has a desk with a chair and a armchair. The rather small 32” flatscreen with a wide range of channels is placed a bit high up on the wall and the sliding door to the also nicely renovated bathroom with a large walk-in shower could use a handle/knob or other aide for easier handling. A individual AC unit, WiFi and a room safe rounds up the amenities. Some finishing touches to the rooms wouldn’t hurt. Service at this hotel is very nice and friendly with a classic touch and personal escort to your room after check in.
We are awarding 5 stars due to the lovely receptionists who helped us out after our young daughter was ‘stung’ by a weaver fish. The local pharmacy advised her foot be bathed in very hot water asap; given we were an hour away from our apartment we approached the front desk of this hotel. The charming staff obliged and were very happy to help. Ten minutes later and all was well. A huge thank you to the reception staff for helping us out - we weren’t staying there but that was not an issue. Thank you again!
Hotel Richelieu is right in the epicenter of Arcachon. That's the good news. The bad news is that, being in the epicenter makes it hard to get to during the most popular of months. We were there in August and the entire town was completely mobbed. But it was worth it because the town is both exciting and interesting. We had a bay/ocean view which was quite nice. The rooms were quite nice as well. Definitely do the breakfast. The service of the staff was top notch as was the breakfast itself. The orange juice is not just the real thing, but the really good stuff. Coffee? Excellent and they will cook eggs for you in any style you wish. Their parking is beyond limited but they generally have discount passes to a parking garage up the street. If they had ample parking, I would have given them 5 stars ... because just getting those 800 yards up the street to the parking could be 5 minutes or more in peak periods.…
Our 1st floor sea view room had a nice little outdoor space and a view over the dock/sea but the price of that, we learned, was a late night and an early wake-up. The room was very nice, and a good size bathroom. Comfy bed and pillows, coffee machine, and that nice sea view... We didn’t realise music and other seafront activities would start late in the evening and still be going at gone 11pm, nor that we’d find ourselves awoken by the early morning beach clean up bin emptying routine 😵😵. We wanted to sleep with the door open rather than throat-drying AC, but even with the door shut it was noisy! Would’ve been 5* if not for the noise - now we know why ear plugs were provided!
