We thought the hotel photos (nighttime shots) gave a different appearance than the actual. It is one of those hotels that may not impress at first but does grow on you. I was concerned it was too far out of the old town but that was not the case at all. It is a couple of hundred meters outside (two minutes’ walk) the old town. The hotel lobby and breakfast area are not impressive – looks like a tourist group hotel. However, we had a nice room. The hotel is an old structure repurposed. Lots of old beams were preserved in the room (had to watch my head). We are a family of three, so we had two large bedrooms with a bathroom in between. We had warm days but the AC worked very well. The rooms were clean, modern, spacious. There is a small refrigerator, two TVs, the beds are comfortable. What is unusual is parking. The hotel sits on a public metered parking lot (lots of spaces but seemed full most of the time). I was told that we can use the lot but will need to pay the meter each morning. Alternatively, the hotel has a row of small garages a couple of blocks away. This is a stand-alone older structure that has about 14 individual garages with locking metal doors. Was a tight squeeze for our SUV.
I would recommend this hotel although it is not atmospheric, it is situated in a location to easily see the town on foot and to drive to nearby sites.

What a lovely hotel. Clean, quiet, comfortable with a staff who were willing to go the extra mile. We cannot thank them enough for making our stay so perfect. All the staff were charming but we must thank Marina especially for her friendliness and for organising a very reasonably priced driver to allow us to explore the dordogne valley and gardens. Plus all the staff spoke English at some level, most fluently, so with our school level French all problems and questions were easily solved.

We found the staff to be welcoming and friendly. The room was a good size and was clean. The air conditioning was a must since it was so hot when we visited!
The location is perfect for the village with lots of shops and restaurants nearby.
Parking was a bit tricky but we hired a garage from the hotel for €7 a night. It was only a short walk away.

A wonderful location a block from the pedestrian-friendly old town of Sarlat. Our room was good size, with good space for luggage, an in-room safe and shelves. Large, comfortable bed, with bedside tables and reading lights. A huge, lovely window. The bathroom was a good size, with a large shower. The room was immaculate. Breakfast was very good. There's a coffee/espresso machine like so many places have now. Several cheeses and meats, whole and cut fruit, baguettes & croissants, local butter and honey, dried fruit, muesli.

We booked two rooms. 12 & 14. Value for money. One was family room. Rooms are nicely and simply decorated. There is noise from the street if you open the windows for fresh air. Just a short walking distance to walking streets and historical center full of shops and restaurants. Breakfast was good with many choices. You can brew tea in a proper tea pot. Receptionist was kind and spoke many languages. Big parking space right next to it. All in all it was a good stay for us but our friends had some problem sleeping because of street noise.

I felt that our room in this convenient hotel was a “home” as soon as I entered. Our room was quite large, in the front of the hotel and had two big windows. It was nicely decorated and a very calm space. The bed was extremely comfortable. CNN and the BBC were both available in English. There was a lot of closet space and shelves, so I could keep the room nice and neat. The bathroom was perfect, too. Everything was spotlessly clean.

We stayed 3 nights with another couple and we both loved the hotel. Location was superb and we walked everywhere. Restaurants everywhere and a good location for my morning run. Breakfast was good and only 2 little negatives. Parking outside was not easy and a pain paying but we got the hang of it. Second the staff was not pleasant when we checked in but others were really nice so it must have been an off day for her. I would definitely go back and recommend this hotel. It was priced right and a great room. Big comfortable light and comfortable.

We needed a hotel that would allow us to stay with our dog and this one allowed us. Rooms were clean, staff were wonderful and we had a brilliant stay. The hotel location is great for exploring the old town and taking in the sights.

The Hotel Montaigne, just south of the ring road around the historic center, has apparently been thoroughly renovated fairly recently. Everything in our room felt new and nice. The bathroom was very modern but there was a severe lack of space to put our toiletries. The hotel’s sunroom was a pleasant space to bring a picnic lunch (easy to find the makings of a wonderful lunch at the stalls on market day) especially on a rainy day. The breakfast room had a nice variety of typical breakfast food. The front desk staff were always polite and friendly.
