From the outside this hotel is nothing special, it is on a quiet back street in Calais and the building looks quite drab. Once inside, however, it is a different story. Although a little dated and mis-matched, the decor is opulent and exotic, with furniture and ornaments from all over the world, most of it very elegant. There is a... More

We had heard it had changed hands since our previous visit. Restaurant now closed, but this isn't too bad as there are some good ones literally round the corner. On arrival, slightly frazzled after a car journey the receptionist was off-hand. The type of room we'd asked for hadn't been reserved. Her reaction-it was someone else's mistake! We were given... On a 2 day shopping trip to France stayed at this hotel overnight before more shopping. The hotel has a lot of character. If you want a clinically clean hotel do not stay here but if you want a hotel full of charm and character you will not be disappointed. Situated in a quiet street in Calais we had no... More

The hotel has a nice old fashioned atmosphere but has a good vibe. The room was dated but clean spacious and functional. The staff was kind speaks also English and advised us where to have a good dinner. We left the car in the garage under the hotel against extra payment but secured. From the parking access to the various... More

Stayed here a number of times now, however, it's seems to have changed hands since my last visit. Rooms are still the same, but the hotel seems to be less cluttered. The garage is still 8 euros a night, but again, this is a lot less cluttered. Breakfast used to be included in the rate, but is now a sizeable... More

Excellent in all respects. Upscale rooms, fine breakfast, friendly service. Good location, just two blocks from surprisingly fine avant-garde Calais Museum of Art and a few minutes walk to center of city. Several very good relatively inexpensive restaurants in vicinity. About 10 minutes by taxi to ferry if going to or coming from Dover.

This hotel - and the excellently named Cancelon booking site - left me high and dry on the very day I was due to go to Calais on important business - cancelling my previously confirmed booking. This on a day when Calais was 100% full due to the Jungle news story breaking and many other journos in town. I would... More

As usual we have just spent 5 days in Calais staying in the Maurice, it has changed hands but other than the garage now being spotless & the fact that breakfast is no longer included in the price as it always has been. I never could understand how it made financial sense to include such a great breakfast in what... More

Twenty fours before arriving, the Hotel contacted us to say the rooms we booked months ago were not now available. The alternate room offered was not suitable for the purpose and therefore we had to find another hotel last minute. This caused lots of problems. We certainly won't ever book the hotel again. I advice others to take great care.
