We stayed one night at the hotel and had dinner that evening. We had the warmest of welcomes, a beautiful quiet garden room with all the facilities. The restaurant was very pleasant and the food excellent. Plenty of parking right in front of the hotel, and yet the town centre is nearby. We hope that we shall have the chance...

La Gourmandine exceeded my expectations, accustomed as I have become to more simple establishments on this walking holiday. Entering from Avenue du President Wilson through huge wrought iron gates to a gravelled courtyard, La Gourmandine immediately impresses with its rather grand facade and portal. It is something of a boutique hotel that seems to specialise in fine dining, certainly on...

I stayed in Bambou this time and I think it's my favourite if the quirky rooms, definitely more suited to men as it's not quite as feminine as the others. I liked the glass sink and I slept well, the bed was really comfy. My first choice in Châtellerault.

Shown into a modest size room which was crammed with overstuffed furniture yet had no cupboard space and a wardrobe only one foot wide. Toilet so small it's difficult to sit down and close the door. The town isn't very attractive and seems to be suffering badly from the recession. My advice is to go to another nearby town and...

Hadn't booked and so it was a pot luck road stop. Very happy with our stay. Excellent comfortable room in the mansard, safeish parking and good breakfast. The breakfast room itself is beautiful. All good value too.

We were driving back to the UK from Dordogne, and were looking on spec for a hotel to spend the night. This is a pretty grotty part of France, surprisingly, and we'd just been very disappointed with what was on offer in nearly Poitiers. An attractive hotel, and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. They have traditional rooms in...

Booked a table for 4 adults and three children easily by email for a midday stop. Superb food, varied menu with some stunning top end dishes. Lovely garden - very child friendly, great service with good attention to detail. Although we didn't stay in the hotel it looked lovely.

We booked this as a stopover on a long car trip and wanted just a bed to sleep in, but were astonished to find such a charming team ready to make our stay special. The food was excellent, the rooms clean and the price very good.

We stayed here for a night on our way south and were really delighted by the experience. Our room was quirky but beautifully furnished and had a real Wow factor when you open the door. The lady who I presume to be the owner was very friendly as were all the staff we met. The restaurant was a little cool...
