Ordinary hotel in non descript area. Good parking in front of it and reasonable breakfast. Room with no air conditioning and noisy outside so VERY hot and uncomfortable night. I would not like to stay there during July/August!!l

Good afternoon, We are glad that you spent a lovely time despite the fact that there was no air conditionning and noise. We try our best but we are in a city where there is a lot of traffic. We are sorry for this inconvenience. On every website where we are, we have specified that we don't have air conditionning in our hotel. Nonetheless, we have fan in every room to help cooling a bit. Thank for your feedback, we tried to improve our establishment every day. Best regards.

This is your average hotel but we thought it was value for money in a "touristy town". We had looked at a 2-star hotel right in the commercial area of town and this hotel (3-star) seemed so, so much more value for money for a similar price to that 2-star hotel.

The reception was friendly and helpful; and a special acknowledgement to who made a good impression, meeting our needs and making a great recommendation for dinner. That dinner topped our stay at Rochefort.

The hotel is located just at the entry into the city centre. It is convenient and under 15-min walk to the Hermoine (certainly THE attraction in Rochefort), the Maritime Musuem site and the relatively busier part of the commercial centre.

Yes, this hotel (like many 3-star hotels in Europe) does not have air-conditioning. There was a small table fan and we were able to open our door (we were lucky to have a balcony), so the warmth of a late August night was quite tolerable.

The breakfast was reasonable in choice offered as well as price.

We stayed for one night here. Parking was convenient out the front. The reception was good and helpful. The room was basic, very basic. Be aware that there is no AC in this hotel, but they did provide an oscillating fan, which, for the size of the room, did little comfort. The ensuite is ok, and with a table and TV, that's all you get. Location is good in the town. They need to improve the rooms, once done, this hotel will be great, but it seems to be stuck in the 1980's.

Hotel rooms overlook the Rochefort prison. During the day or at night, we could not leave our windows open. The noise from the prison was extremely loud and unbearable. Inmates across the street were screaming and cussing from their cells, yelling disgusting insults at hotel guests, watching their every move, probably using binoculars from their cells. PARENTS, BE WARNED, THIS HOTEL IS NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. You may get an earful of offensive and vulgar language coming from inmates across the street. To get some privacy, we resolved to close our windows and pull the curtains. However, with temperatures inside the room reaching 35 degree Celsius in July, and without any air conditioning, we could not sleep at all. We had a terrible experience and will not come back to this place again. If you are looking for a relaxing and pleasant stay in Rochefort, with quiet nights, look elsewhere and avoid the “Hotel des Remparts” at all cost!

Dear Madam, We are sorry to read your comment. Fortunately for us, we do not have "neighbourings" problems everyday. You should have told us so that we could find a solution. Be aware that we really do like welcoming families. Our family bedrooms are large with separate toilets. We understand that no AC in these conditions was a problem for you. We have the project to put AC in some of these bedrooms. Best Regards, All the team

Very light, spacious rooms and comfortable public access areas. Bright, large windowed bedroom with effective shutters and curtains. Firm, large, restful bed and plenty of storage space in dressing table unit and wardrobe. Safe in room. Large, well lit bathroom with good shower. The hotel is very clean, in very good order and obviously well managed. Reception was courteous and very efficient. The hotel has internal access to the adjacent Spa and it is normal to see clients moving between the establishments in bath robes.
This hotel is in an excellent location and is within level strolling distance of main tourist sites in the town centre. Substantial free parking outside the hotel (but this can be busy with bays fully taken during the spa opening hours). This hotel is very good value for money and massively superior to the better known chain hotels nearby.
A bit of a downer with the food however. Although plentiful in quantity the actual quality of breakfast was poor and this start to the day was not a pleasurable experience. We also considered the in-house restaurant menu to be boring and mundane and certainly not good value. Fortunately we discovered the excellent O'Gabier Restaurant just over the road on the marina waterfront. The 10 minute stroll was more than worth the effort for the exciting and well presented fresh food offer from the good value food and drink menu.

Called in whilst in Rochefort.

1. Small and busy reception
2. Restaurant adjacent for non residents and residents - with decent menu
3. Next to local swimming pool
4. Good location for the town
5. Free parking

Nice enough place.

My wife & I stayed here for 2 nights on our way to Bayonne. The reception staff were friendly & helpful and our room & bed were both large in size & comfortable. The bathroom was very big with good storage, which is unusual for a hotel. We had a problem with the toilet - the cistern didn’t flush - but this was soon rectified when we spoke to the very nice receptionist.

The reason we’ve given a 3* rating is because:

1. Our shower (in room 101) didn’t work properly - the rail, holding the shower head in place, was broken. No major problem for us, we just had a ‘hand held’ shower instead, but we were surprised that Housekeeping hadn’t reported the problem earlier during cleaning so that it could have been fixed - it looked like it had been broken for a while.

2. Breakfast is served until 9.30am so, at 9.10am, we were a little surprised to see 3 waitresses clearing the tables of linen and preparing the room for lunch, even though several guests were still eating breakfast. To be honest, we felt a little uncomfortable - with hindsight we should have gone out for breakfast. While eating we watched in amazement as, while one guest got up from her table to fetch a yoghurt, one of the waitresses cleared the table - it was plain to see that the guest was only half way through her breakfast! After that we chose to take our coffee & croissant in to the bar area.

For the price you cannot fault it. Very clean. Great sized bed, balcony and modern bathroom with shower. Please note there are no facilities for hot drinks in the room. The staff were super friendly. Next door to the famous Thermal Baths and easy access to walk to the centre. On street free parking when you find a spare spot. Would definitely go again.

Well run hotel with clean rooms, hot showers and beautiful bathrooms. The staff were helpful and pleasant. We ate in the hotel restaurant and had a very pleasant and tasty meal with excellent service. All in all, a very pleasant place to stay, close to the historic dockyards.

We had previously booked accommodation in Forges, a little further to the north. When we arrived there, it was not at all as advertised, and we decided not to stay. This left us with about one hour until dark on a cold winter's evening to find a night's accommodation for two couples and a dog. We headed for Rochefort and drove towards the centre. We came across the Hotel des Remparts and were pleased to discover they had rooms available, and accepted dogs. We were absolutely delighted with this accidental discovery. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable, the staff couldn't have been more helpful, and the restaurant food and service were excellent. It is well-placed for the old centre and port. We would definitely go back there and do not hesitate to recommend it to other travellers!
