The restaurant side of the hotel is a must visit if you are ever in Saintes or the surrounding area. Beautiful looking, great tasting food, excellent service, nice selection of wines and beer. Nothing else to say. Just go if you get the chance. We did not stay in the attached hotel so I can not comment on that, sorry.

Rooms full of charm, totally renovated, individually decorated, & well-appointed, inc. bathrooms. Located in a charentais-style building directly in front of sainte's 15th c abbey w/its 2 churhes. nice waking up to the peal of church bells instead of an alarm clock!

chic restaurant serving delicious modern & classic-w/a-twist french dishes.

both hotel & restaurant great value for price!

I don't know about the hotel, but we had a nice time at the restaurant.
It is an old stone building situated on a quiet square near the abbey "Abbaye aux Dames".
The interior is new and nice and the music choice (Pink Floyd which runs in a loop) was surprising according to the average age of people who were at the restaurant (rather old and classic).
I have an excellent foie gras (foie gras de canard au sel, gelée goût pomme d'amour) followed by a piece of veal (pièce de veau frottée à la poudre d'ail, mousseline de fêves et arômates).
Dessert was interesting but a little disappointing (Biscuit coco,à la fraise prise au basilic, crème glacée wasabi). The strawberries were delicious but the marriage with wasabi cream not really to my taste (although I love wasabi).

For 26 € each it was not a bad choice at all.

Small detail: I would not recommend tap water that is heavily chlorinated.

48 euros per room. 5.70 euros breakfast. Nine newly refurbished themed [good sized] rooms [eg. Cote Ivoire, Cote Mer]. Hotel directly opposite the Abbaye aux Dames. Free public car parking available outside the hotel. About a 5 -10 minutes walk into main centre.Didn’t try the dinner but looks upmarket and well presented. Friendly staff.

We arrived about 9.30pm, hungry and hoping we could get dinner. Our delightful hostess asked her husband if we could eat and he obligingly and smilingly agreed. She then directed us to park in a free car park a short walk down the street. On our return we were shown to our room, which was spacious and modern with a very nice, if small, shower room. We then came down for dinner and were surprised to find it was a fixed menu, and not cheap (we had planned to have just a main course). But then we were absolutely not disappointed, it was worth every Euro. The service was fantastic (our young waiter was very helpful in finding out what things were for us) and the food and wine sublime. We would certainly stay at Les Saveurs de l'Abbaye again and would very much look forward to eating there. My only comment to the owners would be - please provide better lighting in the room. It was difficult to read in bed. Otherwise - PERFECT! Thank you.

Live in area and have eaten here many times at lunchtime. Service is very good and food is consistently good quality. Have eaten here in evenings as well and very good. Just off the centre of Saintes within a few minutes walk of the river Charente and the Roman arch.

Great location, close to centre and river. Food was lovely even on our restricted deal. Small problem with the lights in the room was resolved quickly. Only downside was the hotel wifi didn't reach the room even though there was a free access code there.

We had a very good meal , well presented and a good quantity on the more expensive lunchtime menu. The menu de Jour looked vey basic for the 17 euro price and certainly not worth it. The wine , as ever in France, was overpriced,

First evening in Saintes. On sunday practically all restaurants are closed. Even at the time of the Festival de Saintes. We had the menu of the day. A cold soup of courgette with little slices of chorrizo/ a cheese cake with tomato followed by a main course of fricassee de poulet with basmati rice resp. "Snacked" tuna. The dessert was a parfait. Accompanied by a bottle of chilled Saumur Champigny of Domaine Filliatreau 2014. Excellent value for money. Eur 74 for two, including water and coffee. Evian water for Eur 5 too expensive for a restaurant like this.
