Detailed Reviews

The Cambo Estate is centuries old. The main house is private to casual visitors but the rest of the estate is open to the public. There is an excellent quaint cafe in the converted stable block served by friendly staff and a shop selling crafts and gardening accoutrements.
The huge walled garden has an entrance fee. It is full of colour and seating to drink in the quietness.
There are walks through the woods to the beach and the snowdrops are out in early spring.
The family run estate is doing its best to make visitors welcome and deserves support.

As a mature couple we stayed at West Cottage, Cambo last week for 4 magnificent nights.... it was heavenly, cute, immaculate but homely, very well equipped and a brilliant setting within 100m of bus stops to St Andrews, Anstruther, Elie, Crail, etc. So much so, that we did not use the car in 5 days!
We also used it as a base to walk the 'Fife Coastal Path' to Anstruther and St Andrews and also tour and dine in St Andrews
Cannot wait to return

We spent a week’s break at the cottages with 2 other households and we had a superb time. The grounds of Cambo are great for a walk and there is lots to do in the surrounding area. Cottages have everything you could want including dishwasher tablets and toilet roll! Comfy beds and great facilities, including outdoor space for dining. We’ll definitely be back!

We enjoyed a fantastic lunch here at the end of July. Great service and fab food. We invited family to join us for a lunch today and the contrast could not have been more extreme. Whilst staff were lovely and apologetic the service was appalling - we arrived just after 12 and left at 2.30pm just having had a Toastie. There was no water to be served as there were no clean glasses. When we asked again he said he could only provide 2 glasses for 5 of us. The food was sub-standard compared to last time and not value for money. Usually the salads are incredible with an amazing dressing but it was basic. The caprese ciabatta was salty and not as served previously. We asked to order cakes but was told this would take a huge amount of time…so disappointed after having previously had such great lunches here. Must be a change in staff and complete understaffing. What a shame for the staff employed who are trying to do their best.

Oh dear Cambo Estate owners, really scraping the barrel now....As a regular walker through the woodlands of the estate I was appalled to read a notice at the Kingsbarns beach end of the grounds telling us that the woods were now only available to PAYING visitors. "No right to roam" in this part of the Scottish countryside.
Shameful.

Don’t be taken in by the coffee sign at the beach if you are walking the coast path. When you have walked the half mile path through indifferent woodland you discover that this is a paid attraction and you have to buy a ticket (£6?) to access the coffee shop. This isn’t clear until you get there.
I appreciate the place is a country house attraction so don’t make out you can just walk in for coffee. We felt conned.

Paid a visit to see the acclaimed snowdrops. While there we used the cafe. It is a well equipped cafe set up for serve over service but for some bazaar reason the counter takes orders and then you have to sit at your table and wait and wait for a simple bowl of soup (ÂŁ4.50 inc bread).
There were four members of staff but they managed to make hard work of an easy task. Soup was average, bread was very good and some irony in that the gardens feature Tamworth sows and piglets but the cafe serves pretty unappealing Vegan Sausage rolls.
To visit the walled garden in February is a waste of time and free of charge you can see good displays of snowdrops in other woodland areas. This expensive experience (ÂŁ6.50 pp) is overhyped.

We visited the cafe and then walked down to Kingsbarns Beach. Lovely cafe with really nice food. Friendly and catered well for vegetarians and vegans. Had to chase up our request for gluten-free bread, so if you have particular dietary requirements then it’s probably worth stressing this. Lovely walk down to Kingsbarns Beach though.

Dropped in after a walk through the snowdrops the cafe is now in the hands of the second caterers which is a big improvement . It is run as basically a vegetarian cafe but lacks variety on the menu ,I had a tasty bean soup and a cheese sandwich ( I hate grated cheese in a sandwich it makes for a messy bite) the other sandwich ingredients were Brie and chutney . We had cans of soft drinks with our meal . This place could be really good with a few tweaks and the staff are pleasant

Lovely walled garden to enjoy a picnic in. The gardeners have created a top class environment.
Had tea and cake at the cafe - excellent food and friendly staff. The scones were fresh as was the tea and coffee.
Very close to the beaches which you can walk to.

They can do meals if you ask them in advance. You pay separately etc. Hope this helps. Great place.
