We have stayed here for 4 nights and had an amazing time visiting the area .
We stayed in room 7 which was lovely and clean with a very comfortable bed and a lovely en-suite with a bath and shower, it was overlooking the lane at the side of the property and was very quiet at all times of the day and night .
The breakfast which you order the night before was outstanding, it was hot on very hot plates and everything was cooked fresh for you, no turned up bacon that had been sat under a heat bulb for hours here ! even the toast is hot , and Only the best produce used , a proper Full English .
The evening meals are all listed on the board in the bar and everything is £5 and like the breakfast everything is homemade and fresh , the pie’s are the best I have ever tasted anywhere, the drinks are regular pub prices .
The pub is a very quaint with many of its original features and very quirky, if you are looking for glitzy modern then this isn’t for you , but if you like a traditional pub you will be at home here , the owners are very helpful and will go out of their way if you need anything you only have to ask , will we come back ? Definitely! and in these challenging times we wish Chris and his wife all the best for the future and look forward to returning

Fantastic weekend stay at an affordable price
Stayed here in October with friends for a short break. The rooms are comfortable, clean & well equipped. Breakfast is included in the rate and did not disappoint. The Bay horse country inn is located in an ideal location away from the main road this making it very quiet so a good nights sleep is guaranteed, it’s also ideal to travel to Thirsk, Ripon and York for days out. The owners should be very proud of the service they provide. People are very quick to criticise when they are not happy and not enough praise is given when it is due which it certainly is here! Keep doing what you are doing, Chris and Bev go above & beyond.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at this country pub/Inn. The landlord was great, very accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. The food there was amazing, ate there both nights of our stay and wasn't disappointed. Thursday night was 'comfort food' night with mains at £5 and pudding for £2.50. Breakfast was delicious. I personally don't mind ordering the night before, it just means you're food is cooked ready when you are. You didn't have to do this if you preferred so it's not set in stone. I took my earplugs as knew I was staying in a pub and it would be noisy but it didn't carry on til late. Creaky floorboards etc but I love that character in old inns, adds to the experience.

The evening meal was lovely, and good size portions friendly service. The pub is cosy and traditional with a real fire. We had room 7 and it was very, very dated, and was odd in lay out, a mirror with large wooden chair infront and dressing table with no mirror or chair (the large chair wouldn't fit at dressing table). Tea and coffee in room, no biscuits sadly. The bathroom had black mould on the ceiling which should really have been cleaned. The check-in also is really late 5pm no flexibility at all and no negotations on check out 10am prompt! Stay over for an onward journey up to Scotland for Christmas B&B £70. You chose breakfast and time the night before. No cereals or fruits etc. Full english was good quality.

Just back from an overnight stay. We stopped off on the way back from the south of England to Scotland. We didn't go with very high expectations given that we'd only paid £60 for a room which included breakfast. We had a very comfortable stay :) Wonderful food, lovely friendly service and the best nights sleep away from home that I can remember! Big flat screen TV too.
Piping hot water for the bath (shower water in the morning could have been warmer though) fast and free WIFI and very tasty cooked breakfast in the morning. It's table service though, and there aren't any buffet style cereals, juices yogurts or fruit etc (you'd need to ask) We really couldn't have asked for more! Especially for the price. Evening meal in the bar area was delicious and plentiful and reasonably priced. Worth mentioning is the fact that check in isn't until 5:00. We arrived early assuming we could have just sat in the bar with a drink until the room was ready...but the place literally doesn't OPEN until 5:00 (on the nail). I tried the front door and it was locked :D I actually thought they had gone on holiday themselves! :)

Second visit here in 6 months. Will definitely return.

Check in was easy and quick, and was able to check in early, shown our room which was beautiful, clean and comfortable.

Came down to the bar when it opened, our drinks were just added to our room bill. Food starts at 6. The owner Chris is very attentive to all his customers and guests.

Food - omg the portions are a good size , reasonably priced and the tastiest home cooking from a pub ever. Made by the owners wife in the on-site kitchen, even if nearby worth travelling just for the food.

The bedroom is comfortable and clean even if we did evict a few stowaways (spider and bumble bee). Only downside is the creaky floor boards but then what do you expect in a building as old as this. The shower was lovely and hot just not much water pressure, enough for a quick wash though or could have opted for a bath. Soap and towels provided.

Breakfast - the waitress remembered us from our last trip, took our order for breakfast at dinner and roughly what time we’d be down for breakfast. Fresh local produce, delicious again cooked by the owners wife, a basket of toast with butter, jam and marmalade. Coffee and tea a plenty and juice.

Checkout again was easy, paid after breakfast, quick and efficient, and then left the key.

We’ll definitely return, a nice hidden gem.

Somethings are priceless, like great atmosphere, friendly caring staff and great experiences.
We had a birthday celebration here and stayed over for a couple of nights.
Rooms were spotlessly clean, spacious and comfortable. with baths and showers.
In the restaurant, as well as tables for up to 6 people there is. large round table, set back from the others. It fits 8 or more people around it, making dinner a real social experience ideal for family celebrations.

The food at the Bay Horse is consistently good with a great selection of quality foods. Breakfast was one of the best breakfasts we have had anywhere.
Chris and Bev, the landlord and landlady are lovely people who work really hard and really make the Inn the special place that it is.

The Bay Horse Inn in Rainton is just a 5 minute detour off the A19 and well worth a visit, either to eat and drink or to stay over.

This is an old country pub that has a number of bedrooms in the pub itself and some in an extension. Ours was in the original pub building and was comfortable.

I can echo what others have said. The welcome was warm and the staff were friendly and always available to help.

The evening we were there the pub was busy with both locals and guests and had a great atmosphere.

The beer was good and they were offering a reduced "covid" menu with fewer options than usual but still plenty to choose from. It was great value for money. The meat pie and the chicken and ham pie were excellent. The breakfast the following morning (included in the price of the room) was also very good. They don't skimp on portions here.

We had a good WiFi signal in our room. There is off-road parking at the back of the pub.

I would stay here again.
