Hotel's Favourite
This is a hotel of superlatives: wonderful staff throughout, excellent breakfasts and lunch, comfortable bed and room which are well-furnished, quiet. It’s a historic building but not in the Old Town (Altstadt), half-timbered sort. It’s a former Klöster. It’s also direct on Bodensee. I only wish I stayed when I could have enjoyed the private beach and the Seerestaurant Terrace. This is my 4th Steigenberger hotel. They are outstanding properties. This one is no exception. Kudos to the entire Steigenberger Inselhotel Team! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Booked 2 rooms as part of a family celebration, one a large deluxe room as we have a child, it was traditional and spacious. The second room was lake front and the decor was extremely sharp and airy. Staying in Konstanz it would be hard to find a better hotel. Going into a 14 day quarantine for this trip, that hotel like the next in Bavaria is worth the penalty.

This is a wonderful hotel in a unique position on Lake Constance. For the most part it lives up to expectations as the experience reflects the considerable price premium it commands. Service in the lakeside terrace includes breakfast, lunch and dinner when weather permits. The loft style rooms were very comfortable and seemed to be newly renovated. There were only two areas of disappointment for us. 1. The restaurant is not worth the money. The dishes are highly priced and very average. The Massman curry was awful and resembled nothing I have ever seen in a Thai restaurant. I couldn’t even finish it. 2. to access the rooms on the 4th floor you required to climb a flight of stairs. For some reason they chose to put my 77 year old mother in law in a room on that floor which she found very difficult. In all fairness to the hotel, we didn’t mention anything but they should check that you don’t have mobility issues before they allocate you these rooms.

Dear Smatty, Your review is much appreciated, thank you for sharing it. Also, thank you for choosing us to be your hotel while in Constance. You had the possibility to choose, and you decided to give us a chance. It was a pleasure to read that you had a relaxing and comfortable time during the stay at our Seerestaurant Terrace and at your room. I am very sorry we didn’t quite meet your expectations about the massman curry. I apologize for all the inconvenience you could have encountered. Rest assured we have already looked into issues mentioned, as each comment given to us we take very seriously. If your travels bring you back to Lake constance we would be honoured if you would give us another chance to prove our hospitality. Best Regards Thomas A. Swieca General Manager

From the moment we arrived we were looked down on the subtle comments . Our room was not available it was 2.30pm and they suggested we go for a walk we just had walked from the train station and coffee and cake was available but no way we fitted in , they took our bags and when we came back at 3pm the just told us the room number no directions on how to get to the room it was like going down a rabbit hole to find the room by ourselves. When we got to the room I wanted a coffee but although there was an expensive coffee machine the cups very not the right ones for the machine so no coffee was available. Oh well only one night and would not do it again.
The breakfast was amazing wish the women who gave us coffee would have told us that we had to serve ourselves as the buffet was way down in the other room from where we were sitting .
Bottom line if you wear t shirt and jeans and carry your own bags don't bother coming to the hotel.

Fabulous place to spend a relaxing few days, recognising that some services are restricted due to COVID-19. Room, view, service, cleanliness and friendliness all top. Only room for improvement would be in the restaurant. Please have people eating cheese fondue not seated next to people eating the normal menue!

Great experience from reception to restaurant and cocktail bar. Stunning views, beautifully positioned hotel with private access to lake, great restaurant and superb breakfast. Rented bikes for a nice tour. Only reason it did not get an excellent rating is that you can only have breakfast outside from 9h, not earlier, and when the weather is nice, it becomes very hot inside. Then if you arrive at 9h to have breakfast outside, you end up queing for a very long time. Reception told me that this rule exists to protect from the outside noise those who want to sleep late. The noise is apparently not from the guests, but from the staff setting up the tables outside. So the hotel knows what they need to work on!

We had high expectations of this hotel and we were not disappointed. From the efficient and pleasant welcome of the staff on our arrival, through to the obliging housekeeping team everyone was professional and affable. The room was comfortable and to have two proper armchairs was a great improvement over many other high end establishments.
Our balcony, though small, allowed us to sit and relax enjoying our own outside space.
The breakfast buffet was excellent…all apart from the omelette making which left much to be desired. Dinner was indoors during our stay due to evening rain showers so we didn’t get to eat on the lakeside terrace, but the food was good and well served.
The only downside was the lack of bar for a pre-dinner drink or nightcap as it closed on Sunday and Monday. The alternative of the Bier Garten serves only a limited range of beer and wine and closes early evening.

The Steigenberger inselhotel is ideally located both in terms of access to the city center of Old Town and with a beautiful view of the beautiful lake Bodensee (from rooms, bar and restaurant). The staff are friendly and very serviceminded, the rooms are spacious and the whole hotel very well kept and clean. The restaurant serves both dinner and breakfast, and does so with great menus in the evening and a wonderfull buffet in the morning. We had a fabolous stay, and hope to come back for another stay.

It was a very easy journey from Zurich airport. You just go over the road and down the escalator to the station and the trains to Konstanz are very frequent. The hotel is a 5-10 minute stroll from the station.
This is a beautiful hotel in a wonderful position right by the lakeside.
We were greeted by Miriam, who was excellent the whole way through our stay. She booked us in and then showed us the hotel before taking us to our room. We had a beautiful junior suite (129) on the lakeside. The 'after me' bathroom is quite small and if you have mobility problems it wouldn't be suitable as the shower is over the high sided bath. We also had a walk-in dressing room which was great.
It was lovely taking breakfast and dinner by the lake. Food is excellent but the dinner menu is limited. There are numerous great restaurants in Konstanz literally across the road. We had booked for 13 nights and the intention was to eat out for at least seven of the nights but sadly my husband developed covid and we were confined to our room with room service for five days! We changed our flights once he was negative and flew home. My only negative about the sorry saga would be that management never contacted us again after we were told to stay in the room. It would have been nice to have had a phone call to find out how we were doing!
It was a sad end to a holiday we had both been looking forward to. In fact this was our third attempt to stay here because two bookings were cancelled during the pandemic.
We would definitely stay again and hope to return soon.

Wonderful hotel located in a 700 year old Monastery on Lake Konstanz. If you have the opportunity to stay here do-you won't regret it. The Hotel is on its own island and separated from the mainland by a bridge. An easy 10 min walk from the Railway station and over the road from the bridge to the Hotel is the 'old town' We were in a 'partial sea view room' on side of the building which had a small balcony and great Lake views. Staff were friendly, professional and helpful. Room and bathroom well appointed and spotless. The outside Terrace Restaurant was a wonderful place to enjoy a superb lunch and dinner and to watch all the activity on the lake. I can't recommend this Hotel highly enough and can't think of any improvements that could be made. I often think back to the days spent there and will return one day.......

Sorry dont know I would ask them directly
Dear guest,
yes, of course we have a safe in every room, along with a minibar/refridgerator, airconditioning, coffee & tea making facilities and ironingboards on request.
Hope to be able to welcome you to our hotel soon
Peter Martin
General Manager
Dear ValeFans,
This entirely depends on which room you book and on which floor you are. My 4th floor room didn’t have a bath but a walk in “narrow-ish” shower it could fit 2 people standing in front of each other not next to each other.
On the 3rd floor you have showers over baths with leaking glass doors which my colleagues said made them have to clean the bathroom floor of water all the time.
Best advice to check with the receptionist and explain your wishes.
Hope this helps,
Best,
R
Dear Woods74,
we have several guests staying at our hotel who have gluten free
dietary requirements so it would not be a problem for us , but please let us know which dates you will be staying here.
